Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
This movie is a whole lot of fun
Let's be honest, this movie was never going to be a masterclass in the Stanislavsky method, but it is a hell of a lotta fun. The pop culture references in this are a good reason to watch until the end. If you enjoyed the original and aren't expecting the acting prowess of Shawshank Redemption, give it a go.
Breaking News in Yuba County (2021)
Had a lot of potential but just didn't quite make it
I'd like to start with saying this movie doesn't deserve the low scores. It's not terrible. It had a lot of potential, with a decent cast and an interesting plot. I think what let it down was the editing and direction. I think the sister element could have also been left out, as it didn't really add much to the story. There were some scenes that could have been side splittingly funny, but were just sort of let to meander.
All in all, not a disappointing film, but nothing to write home again.
Like a Boss (2020)
Is kind of lame, but an easy watch
This movie is as predictable as it is charming. It's a tried and true plot of friends falling out and coming back together, but all the characters are so charismatic that you don't really care that you can see the ending from a mile away. A good movie to put on in the background.
Get a Job (2016)
A reasonably good idea, executed extremely poorly.
The idea of a film about how hard it is to get a good job, regardless of your age, is a good idea. However, this film is not good. It is written poorly, by someone who appears to have almost no real world experience of talking to another person. There's very little character development, and nothing that they do makes any sense. Urgh, I never want to see this movie again.
High Life (2018)
Well that was bloody awful...
I did not enjoy this film. In fact, if the man sitting next to me wasn't so large, I would have left half way through the movie.
I get that the film is about a group of criminals being sent to a space station, where experiments are done on them. But it turns very violent, very quickly. I'm not terribly sensitive or prudish but I just didn't understand the gratuitous violence or sexuality. It almost felt like it was done for the sake of it.
