Civil War (2024)
Misleading trailer
If you are looking for an epic between American forces you will be most likely just as disappointed as I am. In fact the move has so little to do with a potential US civil war that it may just as well taken place anywhere else in the world.
I know people seem to like it, I just don't understand what it's supposed to be about or mean. So the movie is not really about a war but about the drama of war reporters. I don't know what they do in real life, but in this movie their involvement in combat is a bit extreme. So not about a war, not realistic, yet shot in a way you would depict a drama based on real events.
Why not just base it on true events and call it a day? Why the click bait civil war rubbish?
Kaleidoscope (2023)
Mum can we have a heist movie? No, we have a heist movie at home
Pitch meeting:
We have a really bad script with cliches from all heist films and the characters and plot don't make much sense. Also everything is inconsistent and it's impossible to be sympathetic with any of the characters. How do we sell this?
Oh I know, let's scramble the episodes so it doesn't matter the plot is covered in holes.
Wouldn't playing them in random order spoil the other episodes?
Nah bro, trust me. It will be fine.
My wife has enjoyed it. I hated it. A waste of 2 good actors. It's predictable, ridiculous and boring not even funny.
Would not recommend. Damn why do these reviews need to be so long?
Nope (2022)
When purchasing tickets we should also be offered the same drugs they took when they made the movie
I'm sure that way it would make a lot more sense. Otherwise there's a lot of nonsense. Unfortunately you only realise that in the middle of the movie when it becomes clear that some of the build up leads literally nowhere (the whole crazy monkey thing) or to some nonsense like the big confrontation at the end. The story had potential but probably too many stoned moments in the writing where they thought "duuuude that's genius".
War of the Worlds (2019)
Makes you appreciate more well written and directed cinema
For me the biggest problem is it's not immediately obvious it's bad. It starts off pretty well and there seem to be a couple of stories going on in parallel potentially converging into one point. Then it starts dragging for no reason, feeling like they took a 2h movie and stretched it into a series. And then it completely discards any details or meaning to the scientific side of things, drop the cliché of quantum physics and hive mind controlled aliens. It seems to focus on the character development and drama, but it's so poorly done, that it's boring and ridiculous. It's like a food that tastes each ingredient that was used, but not as the food it was meant to be.
I'm no expert in writing scrips for movies, but this one feels very like a student project with a big budget for cgi.
