What could you expect?
2 March 2024
Is this the worst movie ever made? It's certainly a contender in this budget bracket. There's really very little to say about it, other than it lacks a single redeeming feature. I guess they had a big cast; but if this wasn't done for the paycheck, lord alone only knows why anyone would stay the course.

In most scenes it looks like the actors are holding in laughter and I would love to know how many times they had to re-shoot scenes from people losing character. I hope it was a bonding experience for all involved, because there is simply no way this is going on the resume. The internet always remembers though, IMDb being a case in point.

I have realised a single redeeming feature: it was so bad I had to see it through.

Fun, well-paced and well-told story of a small town murder
14 January 2024
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this movie. The pacing and plot development were perfect and while it's not a whodunnit, the journey is just as entertaining; I was never bored. The characters were rich and rewarding and the writing in general compelling. Light-hearted and never trying too hard or over-explaining. Dialog was witty and concise.

Casting was inspired! Some epic performances and the overall chemistry was very genuine. Tina Fey was a notable jewel in the crown and Micah Stock carried his role with aplomb. Nick Mohammed a very pleasant surprise as well - he and Hamm made for a great partnership.

In the end, not quite a cult-classic but oh so close. I will definitely watch it again and consider it a new favourite. I would love to see more out of the Buckland police department but it's clear this was written as a stand-alone story and for that I love it even more.

Boring
6 June 2021
Sure it has plot holes and "twists" and yada yada yada etc., but quite apart from all of that, it's just so boring. So boring. The whole storyline is just dumb and the attempt to build "tension" falls flat.

The most exciting things in the movie are two stupid car chases and one fist fight.

Did I mention how stupid the plot is? A recipe for magic corn LOL! Which he could just have asked for. But they plan to blow up a hotel instead. Amazing.

Nah
5 November 2016
Too far, trying to create some monotonous supervillian Version 2. Now Rik is some kind of coward blah blah blah. So the only way out is for Negan to lead the show as we start a new narrative of good vs evil. But what good? There isn't any good! There was a team we were rooting for to survive, and they lost pretty darn badly. So the evil axis of the WD yoyo is back in control; and I guess somewhere along the line our defeated team will rise up and restore justice.. except that I've never seen such cowardice and I've lost all the respect I had for them, especially in Rik. He was going to cry-rage cut off his son's arm... wow. And YAWN. Possibly, there could still be some zombies roaming around in the background.

The gore is just a symptom of running out of ideas and trying to buy time. Oh and the support of all the people calling this the greatest episode on TV. Fair enough, people are keen for gore and nyaaaah, but I don't care for it or need it. It's mainly childish.

You know, looking back, they had the opportunity to kill Rik a couple of seasons back and they could have kept the leadership fluid and interesting. It would have worked and someone could have stepped up to the plate. Now they have created this martyr who they have dug too deep with, who has lost his way.

I'm out. If you stick with it, best of luck, I hope you get stuck with Negan ;)

What the Hell Happened Here IMDb?
16 September 2012
I can only think that Drew Goddard (the director) paid desperate teams of unemployed people to work long hours through the night - weeks on end, without any rest - creating fake profiles on IMDb to rate this movie. Friends of friends of family of anyone involved, cast or crew, must have been promised untold riches and stardom in turn for their 10- star review.

It's that bad.

IMDb usually has a rating system you can trust - anything above 7 and it's usually worth throwing your money at - but not this one! If it was free I would have walked out. To be honest, I'm still not sure how this movie got backing, because it feels like it was made up during filming.

I'm not going to go into details because it's not worth that; but really, don't waste your time. The very basic storyline, where a cabin in the woods was setup for horror, showed some promise; but then sh*t just got weird. The End.
