Unclassic classic
16 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I've never watched anything of the Romeo & Juliet story, nor the book but I enjoyed how this put an unusual spin on it. And it had to be British, American accents wouldn't cut it, it wouldn't be as nearly as cute. I saw this as an Elton John rock opera. I don't care for his music much but I really got into it during the movie. I watch it over and over. Guess I'm just a sucker for love stories. The jokes and gags are repeatable...lines you could just fit into normal conversation as inside jokes between friends like "Who's your gnomy". I wish Ozzy had a bigger part, his lines cracked me up most of all. The music just fit well all the way around. Would you expect anything less from a movie that involved EJ - not to mention that it was his company that made the movie.

Rio (2011)

It's all about the city

Warning: Spoilers
I've never been to Rio or Brazil but this movie's graphics were so vibrant that I could feel the excitement of Carnival. Complete with the famous statue. I wonder what this movie would be like in 3D. The story was classic cute. Some may say too typical of a story that is over done but I guess I just enjoy these classics. Perhaps an avian version of 101 Dalmations. Of course the villain was worth hating and not as "fancy" or pretty as the hero/heroine. Anne Hathaway was so good that I could even picture her in the sound studio having a good time. I agree that Eisenberg will forever be known as Blu (whether his publicist markets that as good or bad is up to them). Jamie Foxx singing is the new Barry White. His voice for romantic tunes is melted butter. I didn't think I would enjoy this movie as much as I did. This is one of those movies that I will watch over and over again.

Rango (2011)

I missed the wagon
16 August 2011
This movie was as dry as the desert it was filmed in. Based on the other reviews I obviously missed something here. I even fell asleep it was so slow and dry. Maybe because I don't like regular westerns is why I didn't like Rango. I probably have to watch it again because I just didn't get the whole story line with the turtle (without giving away anything for anyone). Beans accent was a bit over the top, I got tired of listening to her after awhile. Where credit may be do is that the movie made me feel as dry as its desert - it made me feel part of the film (tongue in cheek). Seriously, I suppose credit is do to the animation but a story is much more important to me to enjoy a movie. If the story is no good, like in this case, the animation doesn't even matter. Guess I'm just more of a Rio girl - color, fun
