Gabriel's Inferno: Part One (2020)
Amazing adaptation of amazing books
I discovered and read the Gabriel's Inferno books by Sylvain Reynard not so long ago. Usually I get disappointed with books adaptations because either they omit important details to follow the story or they completely change the narrative, this was not the case. In fact I bought the entire series of books after watching the first film and kept watching the other film's adaptations. With each film I was amazed to find every aspect of the book it was based on, translated into film, even small details that I loved as a reader were there. Everyone in the cast is perfect for their roles and the crew's great work and dedication can be felt through out the entire film.
Highly recommended.
Haven (2010)
The Haven journey ends along with the troubles
If you for some reason, haven't watch the last couple of episodes of HAVEN, STOP READING NOW! It's been an amazing journey which lasted 5 years, yes I know it seems incredible but this roller coaster of emotions started on 2010 and now in the year 2015 the journey ends.
Emily (Audrey), Lucas (Nathan), Eric (Duke), Adam (Dwight), Emma (Jennifer), Laura (Charlotte) and William (Croatoan) as everyone else involved in the story were amazing (the cast and crew... writers, producers, fx department, makeup, etc) I got in love with Haven so much that I even stopped reading the book so I would not find spoilers or points of comparison between them.
During this time, we - the fandom - fought over who was the hero and who was better for Audrey, if Nathan or Duke, about who and how would end the troubles... We fell in love with all the characters and followed their story as if it was a part of our lives... We witnessed their conquests and their falls, we cried with them and laugh as well, we watched them rise again and again. We watched them fight with each other and for each other... We watch Audrey go into ¨the barn¨ to end the troubles for 27 years over and over and surface as someone else who we learned to love (Sarah, Lucy, even Mara) ... And that is why (SPOILER ALERT) I AM NOT HAPPY with the end.. I expected something different, I expected the happy ending that never came. I waited to watch Haven Finale and I'M NOT HAPPY with the simplistic and unhappy end! It was almost logical that Dave and Vince would make the choice of sacrifice themselves for Haven (which is consistent with the characters' history).. But apart from that everything else felt VERY WRONG: Dwight was given a consolation prize for losing the love of his life (the one we got to know, to hate and then to love... just to watch her go into oblivion) and the trio got disbanded... It feels like Nathan ended up with ¨a copy of Audrey¨ because she walked into the barn again, to surface as someone else (again) this time with baby James?.. How does Nathan's baby ¨James¨ fit into this story if this version of Audrey never met Nathan before? Because the Sarah who gave birth to James is from the '50s... And Duke?... Was THAT Duke's reward for his sacrify?.. DEATH? I feel this end does not match the amazing complex story I followed for 5 years and neither us (the fans) nor the characters deserve the fast, simplistic unhappy end we were given...
I enjoyed the story I just don't like the way they wrapped it up.
