Hannah Gadsby: Douglas (2020)
Nothing funny about this
Is this what passes for "comedy" these days? Wasn't comedy supposed to be funny? Nothing funny about this. I could even watch to the end. I'm not into torturing myself. You would be much better off watching an old show with Eddie Murphy or Andrew Dice Clay or why not Jimmy Carr. Or perhaps the new Netflix special with Ricky Gervais. At least he has some good jokes. Watching Hannah Gadsby is about as funny as I imagine it would be to have a red hot poker showed up your rectum. Some reviewer described her as "witty". Compared to what? A mollusk? A box of rocks? The minutes spent watching her have probably caused permanent brain damage.
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Not a lot of fun
This is perhaps not the worst movie I have ever watched but it's close. The less said about it the better. You only live once and spending part of your life watching this is something you will regret bitterly.
The Double (2011)
Contrived
The short description of this film is "contrived". I guess the plot twists are supposed to be creative but the end result is a movie that fails to engage. You pretty soon stop caring about the outcome and that is never a good sign.
Jimmy Carr: His Dark Material (2021)
Jimmy getting old and scared
This was partly funny but sadly it seems that Jimmy is getting old and scared of being cancelled. He can still joke about pedophiles but not about BLM. He is playing it safe throughout. His Covid-19 rant was a bit pathetic. He used to be edgy but that is now just ancient history.
Death of a Centerfold: The Dorothy Stratten Story (1981)
Not so pretty
Usually, in Hollywood biopics, they will cast actors that are more attractive than their real-life counterparts. No so this time, which makes the obsession of the boyfriend difficult to believe.
The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (2020)
Not for me
My 10 year old seemed to enjoy this but for me it was a struggle. An infantile story and wooden acting. Not something that I would voluntarily watch again.
The Addams Family (2019)
Disappointed
I grew up with the original Addams family and I thought it would be fun to take my two youngest kids to watch this. The kids seemed to enjoy it but I was disappointed. It didn't come.close to the original. The story was uninspiring and the humour mostly felt forced.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Would a consistent timeline be too much to ask for?
With every new iteration of x-men movies the timeline becomes more confusing. Characters that are alive in movies that are supposesly later in the timeline die and there seems to be no attempt at consistency. It all becomes rather boring and it makes the whole X-men universe uninteresting.
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
Cringeworthy sillyness
I guess you could just view this movie as a bit of a lark, nothing to be taken seriously, but as a physicist I found that exceedingly difficult. I kept noting the ridiculous violations of the fundamental laws of physics and it largely prevented me from enjoying the film. Suspension of disbelief can only work up to a point.
Glasblåsarns barn (1998)
The kind of thing to show your children if you want them to grow up to be Ingmar Bergman
The eternal fight between good and evil.
Well-made with good acting but gloomy and depressing. This is what you would show your kids if you want them to grow up to be Ingmar Bergman.
