The Duchess (2020)
10/10
Hysterical. Katherine Ryan at her best.
11 September 2020
It's basically Katherine' s stand-up in a TV series. If your whining about the series go watch her stand-up specials and decide if you enjoy her then come back and watch. I'm laughing so hard I woke a snoring puppy! One part of this show I feel in my soul. I grew up with a single mom as an only child. We were very close when I was little. I barely had any relationship with my dad but not due to my mom. She tried but he was in his own world. I wish my mom was as good as Katherine and I wish I had Olive's accent. LOL!

Some times I want to skip movie when I binge the Saga
22 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched The Twilight Saga more times than I should talk about. It's corny and mind numbing. It's been a great mental break during the two months my office was laid off and the daily stress during these bizarre times. My job restarted and I have no room to complain because it's never been a physical job but it's become mentally taxing. I will pretty much watch the Saga on repeat (or Bob's Burgers but that's another review) part of me wants to just skip New Moon. I think it could have been so much better. I feel for Bella's utter depression and even though I'm now a 47 year old grandma I can relate to her attachment issues. Maybe that's why I cringe at this movie. I'm an only child who kind of raised my mother too. Mine isn't "flighty" like Renee just had me way too young and leaned on me to fulfill all of her emotional support. So I kinda raised myself and her. I too probably have had some extremely unhealthy relationships. I do get annoyed with Bella because she kind of becomes obsessed with drama hoping to "see Edward" and uses everybody around her as a means to an end. I know New Moon just seems to be a set up for Bella's unhealthy relationship with Jacob which we later learn why he can't stop chasing her even if he knows she's always in love with Edward. Is it just me but wouldn't movies about The Volturi be far more interesting? I also have issues with the fact that Edward seems to make decisions with the brain of a 17 year old that can't see beyond the immediate. I leave and Bella will be better.(?) I mean I understand smart people can be stupid. Edward should have the knowledge and understanding that pushes beyond the year of his transformation but he kind of thinks with no repercussions you know like your average 17 year old. I know it's all fiction but it's the little things that turn into nails on a chalkboard about this movie. Production is far better on this movie than the first but the wigs in this entire franchise kill me. Jacobs in this movie and the last look like someone through a dyed mom on his head. Looks like they didn't even splurge on human hair hell I think a horses mane might have looked better. My cousins are of The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and have some of the most beautiful shiny black/brown hair Jacob's hair makes me want to cry because Taylor's a handsome young man drowning in bad hair. Don't get me started on Kristen in Eclipse. I feel like they stuck Jacobs old wig on Bella. Yes I know off topic but a severe pet peeve. Thank goodness I enjoyed her portrayal of Joan Jett and her chopping off her real hair for Joan's 70s shag haircut helped sell her portrayal but to the chagrin of this franchise.

Cause I'm helpless
7 July 2020
I really did feel like I was in The Room Where It Happened. Even though the only flaw if I can call it that is some continuity errors like the ever changing flower. I've seen Hamilton in the U.S. tour and it was amazing but I missed a few minutes because I ran to the bathroom when it wasn't packed. I'm also poor so my daughter and I were in the mezzanine which binoculars came in handy 🤣 So, it's so amazing to feel up close and personal with the original cast. Jonathan Groff might want to work on that shower he spews or Broadway won't invite him back in the time of COVID

I wanted to love it
21 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Very interesting concept but maybe a little too soap opera-ey. I think it was to neatly cleaned up and yes in that many short episodes plots where tied up with a neat bow so I'm glad of that (no unjustified cliffhanger like Sanditon) but this could have been bigger, longer, BETTER! Just because you made your project nice and neat and cleared up all of the edges doesn't always mean it's good. Not everyone deserves a happy ending. "People with good intentions may in fact work to secure bad ends" I'm sure people will disagree with me but I'm just not sure i can believe all of the stories would leave everyone "happily ever after"

So many feels
1 May 2020
I fell in love with season 1 and like most everyone else I watched it in one sitting. Season 2 had me blubbering like a baby again! Some of Ricky Gervais absolute best work. I think American's get weirded out by the prevalent use of the C-word but I've been watching British television enough it's the adjective, verb and noun similar to how many are capable of utilizing the F-word in the same fashion. Great well rounded and weird characters. No one is squeaky clean except for maybe "Sandy", "Anne" ("Harriet Jones, Former Prime Minister") and "Brandy". The rest cast of characters are an odd bunch. I finished season 2 in a quickness and I'm already ready for more! Even if it's emotional.

Lovely setting-contains spoilers
7 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I love period dramas and this didn't disappoint. My problem was relationship felt too fast and forced. The show had many flaws that should have been caught in post production but seemed to just be ignored. At least two episodes had a boom Mic visible in the scene. I don't understand John's costume compared to the fairly accurate costumes on other characters. John and that duster looked similar to a western or even a charter in Red Dead Redemption. I just binged all six episodes tonight and I'm so frustrated that they've ended on a cliffhanger and then I just googled the series to find itv will not be producing a series 2. SERIOUSLY? I was already gutted by the ending of Sanditon (in tears by that ending). I don't think I can deal with much more TV disappointment.

We all laughed from start to end
22 January 2020
We get it your mad because Kevin made a lovefest to being alive. It was sappy and full of stoner jokes but that's what was loved about all of the ViewAskew universe plus he got to incorporate his new friends like Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood. It is self deprecating and self loathing but they lean into it. Everything was a full blown payoff and you people bad mouthing are not Kevin Smith fans your people who saw a Kevin Smith movie back in the late 90s or early oughts and you had a laugh. If you were a True Believer then you'd have gotten every tongue and cheek reference and went with it.

Good Omens (2019– )

Fairly faithful
1 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Most people have literally waited 29 years for this to be made into something and the time is perfect. I came to it backwards. I love David Tennant and Michael Sheen and was intrigue by the pictures from behind the screens and the trailers on Amazon. I have watched more in excess of 6x and after finishing the first go round i downloaded the Audible to listen in my car. It's a lovefest to us dumb humans and a demon and angel who don't want to leave earth after all these years (they were both in the Garden of Eden). Really the changes to the series very much don't effect the overall story probably because coauthor Neil Gaiman wrote the screenplay.

OMG! Not for the faint of heart or children
1 August 2019
I don't want to add any spoilers, if I can but this is literally one of the most messed up tv series I've watched in years! I've read other graphic novel's and comic series in my nearly half century on this planet but somehow missed The Boys. I'll be honest I'm a diehard opening day Marvel fan and this is dark and I LOVED it! If you like Sin City, Sandman, Watchmen, V for Vendetta I'd say go for it. If your easily offended I'd say stop, go watch Good Omens (also absolutely WONDERFUL!) But much easier on the senses and soul. When you read the warnings in the beginning of an episode they mean it! This series is rated 18 (which I don't think I've ever seen before) with warnings like violence, drugs and rape and honestly they mean it!

It's Ineffable
6 July 2019
I didn't read the books first like probably many of you but I love David Tennant and Michael Sheen and since I love Lucifer I figured this would be my kind of series but I didn't figure is it becoming a bonding item for my 20 year old daughter and myself. We LOVE this series! We've easily now seen more than 10 x all the way through and partial watching is probably over 15x. I also ended up buying the Audible version to listen to on my daily commute. I'm at 2 1/2 times all the way through. I keep trying to go back to the series I normally listen to but it's depressing and I keep flipping back to Good Omens but it's also lead me to buy other Neil Gaiman books. If this is a sign how well it's loved my daughter wants us to get a shared tattoo with a Good Omens theme!

Every inner demon of those in the spotlight
11 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movies captures a pain and inner demon (the critic) if anyone who's ever put themselves out in front of others. We love to build people up so we can tear them down. Well, ever person with an inner voice does it better. The part that makes this a little self-evolved is the ending. We honestly could have cut at the bathtub scene for a gritty possibly thought provoking short film. Instead it's all really for nothing.

Dark but laugh out loud funny
19 November 2018
Amazing cast though it slipped right past me that the brief appearances of "Nelly" is Paris Jackson. David Eyelowo is amazing! I felt sorry and rooted for poor Harold's life to get better but like in real life as soon as we say "my life can't get any worse" life says "hold my beer!" and pushes you farther into the deep end. Charlize Theron is brilliant as that one person we know who seems to float passed and you think wait there are falls up ahead they slide into the river bank and you help them up and they smoothly walk away and some how you go flying through the air and nearly drown when you go over the falls instead.

*cheezy Nick show*
22 August 2011
I'm not sure if the same person wrote the 3 reviews because they all say the same thing. This show is just silly. I've been watching Nick & Disney shows with my kids for 18 years now (children 18 & 12). The quality television for the young male audience is very limited. This isn't one I would add.

*the reviewer who claimed to watch with his brother is apparently as out of the loop as say my own mother. The Big Show was the actor in question. He is still on the WWE line-up. The brand name WWF hasn't existed in what 7+ years? Ever since The World Wildlife fund sued and won over the use of those initials.
