Night Moves (2013)
Great tension
#52filmsbywomen
Night Moves is a classic example of a slow, but interesting movie. The pace is low, but it is not an annoying film to watch, due to the magnificent tension and atmosphere. Especially the first part of the movie is fantastic. The movie is getting even better due to the wonderful ambient music. Dakota Fanning is great too. She has a very great appearance and is very mysterious. Despite this is the second and third part of the movie not as good as the first part. The tension is gone due to a plot twist. That is a shame, but a good film nevertheless.
Red Riding Hood (2011)
Red Riding Hood meets Twilight
#52filmsbywomen
Film 40: Red Riding Hood
Catherine Hardwicke is a director who is making art-house film, but movies like Twilight too. Red Riding Hood is not an art-house film, that's for sure. In this movie, the story of Red Riding Hood is transformed in a romance and whodunit movie with the level of a Twilight movie. The screenplay is very bad, and actors like Gary Oldman en Julie Christie don't have a moment to shine. They have some charisma, something you can't say about the other actors.
Movies like Maleficient or Snow White and the Huntsmen are even better. Although no Citizen Kane either, but visually more interesting and better actors.
Somewhere (2010)
A slow movie
Somewhere is after The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation the third movie I saw from director Sofia Coppola. It was a success like those movies before it. Somewhere is not good because of the story, but because of the characters and their actors.
We get to know the characters by little clues. It is a less is more movie, and I like those kind of movies.
The protagonist, played by Stephen Dorff. I knew him especially from Blade. He played very good I liked him in this movie. Elle Fanning played maybe even better. She acted very naturally.
Like I said before, I liked those kind of movies. The structure of the movie is very slow, but the movie has compelling characters and is beautifully shot. The soundtrack was pretty awesome too. Julian Casablancas' song was a highlight of the movie. It fitted perfectly in the movie. Well done.
