Bully (2001)
entertaining but a little off the real story
for anybody who hasn't followed the real story they won't notice the things that are off about this movie but I, happening to be an observant person, did. for one, the bobby kent in this movie was tall, thin, pasty white and looked as American as apple pie and had a flowing mane of long hair. the real bobby kent was actually Iranian, shorter with a stocky build, had a crew cut and dark middle eastern features. "the hit-man" who's name was Derek Kaufman, had dark hair and was a skinny sh*t, i could've kicked his ass, the real Derek Kaufman could've played linebacker for the dolphins as he was 6"4 250 pounds, with blonde hair. another thing was, if you can tell me how its possible to drive a 2000 mustang in 1993, id be interested in knowing because is far as i know its not until the advent of time machines. and I don't know why they didn't mention that Marty puccio's death sentence was overturned, and why did bobby's father just walk into the bathroom without knocking and what guy over 5 years old is gonna stand there naked for seemingly an eternity while he has a conversation with his father, and not even bother to get a towel? further on, if you are an angry kid who wants somebody else dead, wouldn't you be smart enough to know that the more people involved in a plot the more complicated and risky it gets and the bigger a chance somebody will find out, why didn't Alice Willis just go and kill bobby by herself, it doesn't take much to stab somebody in the back, u just have to get them to turn around and then the knife does the rest, instead she brings all these other idiots into it and they go and tell everybody in Broward County within an hour, and she still did only 6 years for murder, sometimes idiots don't get what they deserve.
The Italian Job (2003)
good entertainment
even though the whole idea was a played out takeoff on oceans 11, styx, and many other caper movies, with a team of thieves broken down into specialties, the explosives guy, the computer guy, the safe cracking guy, the overall brain of operations, etc, the movie itself was entertaining from start to finish and i can honestly say, that there wasn't a moment when i was bored and despite the copy catting, i enjoyed watching all the different specialists work together to show how an age old job can be pulled off by thives with 21st century technology, even though im not a movie expert and i really dont know the difference between good and bad acting, i think that edward norton, matt damon, mark walberg and company did a really good job this movie really was as good as advertised so i really reccomend it if your in the mood for a good ride.
Up in Smoke (1978)
some funny s**t
although many parts of this movie were kind of slow and not that funny, it was one of those were if 95 % isnt funny, the other 5 percent is worth sitting through all of it. I think that the car scene, especially if you see it for the first time, is one of the funniest scenes ever created. the first time i saw it, i was high and laughing so hard i thought i was gonna burst and had to wipe away the tears from my eyes, but also let me clear up some misconceptions among the weed naive crowd, first of all its impossible to smoke a joint that big and finish it, even the biggest potheads, those 2 included, would take a few hits and pass out, that much weed, looks like about an ounce, , is very expensive, up to $300 in some places, and can last you for months even smoking every day, nobody would put it in a joint, which wastes weed rapidly, and waste it all at once, and also its not cool to drive high, ive done it too many times, stupidly, and its not fun, i havent done a bit of laughing, only constant fear of a dwi stop and hoping the whole time there are no cops between you and home, the fear of driving stoned and passing a cop set up right there, its happened to me (going 20 over the speed limit) and its scary as hell, is something you dont want to go through. but since this is a comedy that isnt supposed to have a reality base, know the facts, please, but hold them aside for when you stop laughing.
Radio (2003)
if you see 1 movie right now, see this one
ive seen many countless movies in my lifetime, but this one, if not the best ive seen, has to be one of them and the best i remember seeing in a long time. Cuba Gooding Jr has done a masterful job as radio, its not easy for an actor to just step into a role like that but CGJ did and succeeded.
outside of Dick Vermeil, it takes alot to make most guys cry, especially for a movie, but this one had me on the verge of tears, especially the scene, details ommited to avoid spoiling it where he was crying and Ed harris was holding him. you really found yourself rooting for radio, feeling for him, laughing at the funny things he did, hoping hed get better and succeed in his own way, and if they didnt give you a "where is he now" update, you would be wondering where he is, and how he is doing now. the night i went to see it i didnt feel like going to the movies at all, let alone paying 9.25 for a ticket, but at the end, im glad i went and Radio was worth every penny. this movie is highly reccomended and if you have any of the same thoughts one of these nights, im telling you, you will and it is.
The Godfather (1972)
all time classic
I didn't see this movie until i was 18 or 19 and now I'm glad I did, and im telling you, once you see the first one, your hooked and you can never see the second and third soon enough. I still have a hard time believing that Mario Puzo, knew nothing of the mafia, but for a guy that didn't know much, I don't think his movie was so bad, lol. and for some of the commentors that say that this movie drags on too long i say, if you can't appreciate it because you have the attention span of a 5 year old, go watch cartoons on the disney channel and keep it to yourself, this movie doesnt have a weakness. the story explores many things about life and society, one of which being that, in the character of Michael Corleone, the will of evil is too often, stronger than the human heart. the entire movie was put in a very dark setting without a single bright spot, I dont think real gangsters go through their entire lives in the mob without laughing or having fun, even periodically, but I can believe the fact that for the most part there lives are pretty devoid of happiness. The concept of Vito being forced out becuase he didn't want to deal in narcotics explores that the gang world is also so devoid of morals that there is little or no room for them and that showing any is a sign of weakness, and if you do, your likely to get forced out by somebody more agressive and with less of a concious.
A Kid in King Arthur's Court (1995)
fantasy too off base
I thought this movie was cute when I was about 10, but now that I look at it i realize how stupid the whole thing is. there is not an educated person alive that can honestly say that they could walk back into the middle ages and save an entire kingdom all by themselves, theyd get there ass kicked. First of all, if this kid managed to survive the first 5 minutes without getting an arrow put through him or beheaded by a broadsword, and he managed to avoid being taken prisoner and made a gay soliders plaything, he would most likely die of many diseases that his body wasn't accustomed to. Also, even you do have a magical place to plug in a stereo you play rock and roll for guards at a middle age castle, youll be labled as a heritic and executed. but dying aside, the middle ages just werent that cool, disease and warfare were everywhere, people lived in disgusting conditions that even mother theresa would run away from, and there was no place for the weak, you either fought or you died and if you werent tough, you were probably killed. But enough about that, what i have to say is for young kids that enjoy the "kids outsmarting the stupid grownups" genre, like home alone (that ones off the hook though, still entertains me even at 19 and will continue to) go see it, but for older people that know what the middle ages were really like, dont bother.
If you want a closer to real life version of what a person time traveling would be like, read the scottish highlander book series (highlander, the fiery cross, etc) or listen to the recorded books tape or cd
Slap Shot (1977)
overrated
i think that this movie is very overrated, I can't support my comments with all this sophisticated movie talk like alot of Imdb users do, but the few things i can say, in laymans terms, is that there was way too much dialogue, too much talking and stuff on the side that nothing to do with anything and not enough hockey, also not enough of the hansen brothers, those guys were hysterical, i was laughing pretty hard in the scene where they all take the ice for the first time and paul newmans line "i cant let them on my team, those guys are retards!" but this movie was nothing like how i thought it was gonna be, it was a dissappointment in my mind.
