I like SciFi (STAR TREK, all versions- I am an original Trekker, from 1966-which gives away my age I guess..) also loved Twilight Zone in its day, also reruns. Sliders is my favorite of the new crop of SciFi shows, also Alien Nation (the TV series, which did not last too long, the movie was ok, but the series took the concept to new heights!) I love to read SciFi also.

The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
UP to date version of a classic, more chilling than ever!
Beware - the future is NOW! I read Margaret Atwood's book back in the late '80's and I thought then that this could actually be our future, based on the society which I lived (as a young, white, college educated, first generation middle-class female in an immigrant family).
The original production of The Handmaid's Tale back in 1990 seemed almost quaint, now that we had fought our way through to freedom! But I lived through the Civil Rights Movement as a teenager, and I lived through the Women's Liberation Movement as a young adult, and I KNEW how fragile our freedom (as women, as people of color, as intellectuals, as individuals!) was and IS.
This version of the book and the film seems to modernize the story, but the truth is unchanging.... if you think you are safe from the forces of repression and you relax your guard, you will be SORRY! This story can actually BECOME our immediate future- we are very close to the tipping point. Read the book, watch the movie, view the series, and take action.
The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics (1965)
Really romance
When I first read the book version of the Dot and the Line, I had to supply the voice and "music" in my imagination, but I thought the book was wonderful. Just a few lines on a page and some words, but it really was romance. The justification for the characters' behavior was so real! I felt for the Line from the very beginning, and hated his rival. My feelings for the Dot were mixed. I just kept wishing she would come to her senses and see the Line for the great guy that he really was! When I was able to view the animated version a few years later, I was happy to see that my own interpretation was pretty much spot-on. I did enjoy the music, and I enjoyed seeing my characters come to "life" as it were. The movie was a faithful rendering of the book, which to me is still a classic! I lent my copy to a friend over ten years ago, and have not gotten it back yet...it is still making the rounds and I hope, making many other people smile.
