Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Neytiri is way to obedient
I was well entertained. The movie is very beautiful and the dreamscape is still mesmering.
But!
*spoiler*
I can to some extend accept the strange stuff in the very beginning like
the colonel being reintroduced with an avatar, or that Eiwa did something to Dr. Grace and Kiri was born... All that and moreso, I can deal with.
But what buggers me is Neytiri.
She was and is a great warrior with integrity and her own voice. And yet she doesn't give Jake a proper fight in his poor decisions (which is needed in order to move the action in to the water)... She's like... a tamed being without integrity.
She is way to obedient as the daughter of a great Chief and the spouse of an even bigger one. Why?!?!
Secondly; why is Jake raising his kids like they're an army? I would assume that he had learned some compassion with the N'avi's. And why does Naytiri support this sick way of parenting?
I understand that the new colonies rise the need for military skills but 'yes sir', 'no sir' and whatnot, is not a nice tone in a family setting.
I am somewhat disappointed with the story and feel that a lot of stupid and unlogic actions and decisions were needed to make sure the CGI could play it's part (like bullriding yipee kay yeah)...
Heck... all the 'supporting parties' weren't utilised despite them being very capable N'avi warriers/colony army.
I hope the Avatar 3 will abode for the stupid story in this one.
As Dreamers Do (2014)
Great story - BUT....
The story of the beginning of a great artist... One of the most magnificent artist in modern history, and we get this?
A lot of the acting was stiff and lacked passion as well as compassion. It was like watching an amateuremovie... The setting was alright, partly the cinematography too, though i would expect something more bright and vivid when telling the story of an artist... Anyway...
The Disney family moves to Marceline - and young Disney learns important advices for future life. Already at that point in the movie, the poor acting shines through - or is it the directing, that lacks compassion?- I can't tell. The lines are great and quotable... But lacks life. :( And that's pretty much the same for the rest of the movie as the Disneys move on from one place to another.
Well, Elias Disney was great - and Walt the older grew by it.
the story IS worth telling, so watch the movie, if you want the story behind Disney. But if' you're looking for a good time... find another movie. I'm so sorry...
And the Ending? - I would expect some scenes from the successful Disney Studios - delivering something known - you know - to end the circle... So don't expect it. It won't happen.
Parker (2013)
Live by your principles
Firstly: We were greatly entertained. That gives 7 stars.
Story: it's kind of predictable, really, but it's the small details that differ and gains another star from me.
Tempo: The movie pushes forward and there's some great action scenes - even some where you cringe in the seat of agony...
Allso some surprises are left for you, even if you think you have it all figured out.
But there is flaws: The former 'crew' are obviously not the sharpest tools in the shed, allso they lack of edge - the nasty kind of edge (but that may rely on the fact that first time we see them (3 minutes in the movie) is at a barbequeparty... That costs a star.
The final hour; the final theft is kind of going' too easy (even if it's not the main story at all - it's just too easy!) AND a character, that you might suspect or expect to cause a little more trouble, is a little disappointing when taken in account for the early intro to the character. That together allso costs a star.
All in all 8 stars well earned.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012)
A grand finale...
First of all - i have read the books. And i liked them. SO my review is colored.
Breaking Dawn part 2 is fairly true to the book, they have made many of the crucial scenes from the book with an edge and nerve it deserves and have cut out minor scenes, that really doesn't matter. Allso a few changes have appeared - but for the better - i believe.
The filming, style, choise of mood and scenes are quite true too..
I believe that this final movie IS almost as true to the book as a movie can get - witch brings it a 9 star from me.
And at some point in the movie, you'll feel the need to .... ! Don't - just wait. It's epic, surprising and brilliant.
If you're not a twilight reader or twilight fan - i'l guess the 9 stars are overrated. Just so you know...
The Rum Diary (2011)
Well played, consistent atmosphere and a good story BUT!!!!
This story had potential! It is wellplayed, everything is somewhat in place, but there is SO MANY places in the movie where the potential for something more, deeper, well that extra, that does the movie watchable, is clearly dropped!!!
We were utterly boored. Though there was ONE time where we were laughing our asses off... but only once!
The potential in the story is - well it's missing!
We're in Puerto Rico in the 60's at a newspaper where truth don't get published and where the American dream is the only truth. The local population is unsatisfied and so is many others - but we only scratch a bit in the surface.
The only story, that really matters in the movie is the story of a journalist...
see it if you want some caribean views from the 60's and looove JD - otherwise find an other movie...
