First episode
23 December 2020
So the first episode was pretty funny, but OMG the heart-to-heart FaceTime talks were so painful I skipped through them. The cringe was horrible. The other episodes were trash from trying too hard. Just watch the first one and skip the FaceTime and it's a good 10min of bros being bros

Legit mad funny

Omg bro. If you are a fan of Ferrell/McKay movies then you already know. It's brilliant! The commentary on the Euro Music Scene is genius. The one-liners are hysterical and the movie has such a sweet underlying message. Not too mention JA JA DING DONG is the hardest track in the streets rn

Thought it was legit

Super funny but not campy. They chilled on the "Woke Wars" SJW stuff, and kept it closer to the original theme of Star Wars. The lead actor was brilliant and stole very scene. Way better than TLJ.

confused, but funny
9 October 2017
so it has an overall kinda Holiday-campy vibe to it, which would be nice but there's so much crude language and scenes that it gets lost. Does it want to be a heart-warming message about a Daddy losing his lil girl bc she's all grown up, or is it a frat-house/locker-room raunchy comedy.

Both are fine, just not so much together.

great finale
23 December 2014
So legit, a great conclusion to a fantastic series. The third installment starts off, right where the second ends. If you are into just straight-up epic fantasy battles, then this is the movie for you. My only complaint is that I wish they would have given Gandoff more swag, and had him use his "magic" more.

The battle scenes were nothing short of awesomesauce. There really isn't a lot of plot development or twists, just because the first two do such a great job setting up this last picture. Also the "social commentary" on how greed is such a powerful destroyer, and "the root of all evil." Like CS Lewis, it's an allegory for inner human struggles and simply good vs evil.

lacking of any pretense
31 October 2014
It is truly a "color by the number" action movie, and in the end a Rembrandt is painted.

Those who are so high-brow, can't let go that the movie's complete lack of any intricate, pretentious, plot-twist is actually a thing of beauty. I was so overjoyed that it rests in the action sequences, the lovable hero played gloriously by K.Reeves as a the somber, stoic "bad-good guy," and continuing our disdain for Russians (*see Cold War*) No, it is simply a revenge action movie, and the scenes are totally bad-arse. The "insights" to this crazy underworld of hired-killers is original, insightful, and adds depth to an otherwise "go get em" kinda movie.

SPOILER ALERT - there's a scene so sad (the beginning) that it makes you want to cry and adds fire to your furious revenge nestled in your heart.

Literally one of the worst movies of all time
23 July 2014
For YEARS! and I mean for years, the worst movie I've ever seen in theaters was "Drop Dead Fred." Not sure why, but that movie was so utterly terribad, it had stuck with me for the past 25yrs of owning the crown jewel of atrociousness.

Well ladies and gentlemen, we have a new winner...

I'm not sure where to even start, and how to subjectively articulate my disdain but let's start with some basics. 1. The over usage of f-bombs every other scene for zero affect or purpose to the script or character development, and just merely as an "adult" filler-word bc the writers are too ignorant to utilize another word in order to express their emotions. Pointless and redundant.

2. The "jokes" and I use that term lightly, were ssssoooo forced and legitimately clichés of past movies combined. Even the end has a special cameo, and it was so painful to watch one of the funniest dudes in comedy completely lose his wit to this script and one-liners. I literally laughed at an actual funny line maybe twice. No seriously, twice did I actually LoL (as the kids say)

3. CDiaz is a total fox, OK and her walking around half-naked isn't that bad, and I didn't care too much...but good gracious J.Segal, now respect to that dude bc he kinda got shredded and lost some lbs for the role, so respect to your swag bro, but I didn't need to see his bare ass, with crack hair. It's nauseating.

4. The "plot" oh my, wow I mean I wasn't even sure what each scene to the next was talking about? Honestly it was painful to follow, not difficult, just painful.

All in all, please don't subject yourself to this torture film.

You're welcome sifc33

one of the best war-dramas in ages
20 May 2014
There is nothing left to say, that most people haven't already written. However, to rebuttal what people say that the ending is anti-climatic. The ending is terribly powerful, and if you aren't crying then you need to check your cold heart.

The movie involves all elements of great movie making, and it never feels "rushed." Going into the film, for those of us in the States (or yanks as the Brits call us) you need to know you are going to see a foreign film, and it's even quasi-indie. So the "pace" might be slower than us here in 'Merica, are used to. Well just wait, and allow the story to unfold, it's beautiful.

As a deployed, combat Veteran, who has served overseas it's difficult to articulate how badly our boys are when they come home. Even with that, I doubt few of our troops were beaten/abused as badly as Lomax was. The depiction of PTSD in this movie is spot-on, and I will highly recommend my Army troops to go see it.

Unfortunately, bc it is a foreign-indie film, very few theaters/cities will put it up...they need to save room for another robot/dinosaur/marvel/romcom/etc...

Brilliant
29 April 2014
Quite possibly Mr. Anderson at his absolute best. It is exactly what you expect from a visionary like Wes, and a mere perfect masterpiece. Dare I say, his best yet? I know, I know all the Wes Anderson fan-girls are gonna cry for Steve Izzou, probably bc it was his most abstract which by all hipsters makes it his best. The less-commercial the cooler according to some people.

At any rate, what makes this movie work wonderfully is the casting, production, set, and of course the story. First off, the casting could not have been any better. Now I know two things here, 1) Wes always/generally has the same people who are either main/supportive/cameo roles, and in this one he doesn't disappoint. 2) I am also aware that rarely are the actual actors in the movie, all the "first-choices." Well the chemistry between Ray and Tony is palatable. They make such a duo, I would seriously watch anything those two are in again.

The acting is so spot on, the comedic timing is genius ESPECIALLY with Brody and Dafoe... seriously it's awesome.

All in all, it's perfect.

I'd rate it as one of Wes' best pictures, easily.

not completely terribad, not awesome either
8 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I gave it six/ten stars, bc the parts where he did stick to the scriptural text was brilliant. SPOILER - but when he told the creation story whilst on the boat with his family, I thought was pretty awesome. Except of course the part of pushing post-modernism's view on "creation" that we still evolved. #weaksauce There are mention of "giants" or "large land creatures" in the Bible, some even say that is where Goliath'd descendants came from....so to make them fallen angles is not a far fetch and actually Bibically accurate. However, D.A., definitely took some liberties and they really didn't add to the overall movie.

Actually, before going in you have realize A) most Hollywood critics like it (red flag to Bible believing Christians) B) It's a D. Afronsky (sp?, too frat to care how to spell his name) so you should know how his movies are, and how they take shape. It'd be like going to a Q.Tarintino movie and not expecting gratuitous violence, just doesn't happen.

All in all, it was quasi-entertaining, I will admit I feel asleep once or twice for a second, only because I was so dog-tired when I saw it. If you can look past the blatant inaccuracies, and just see it as a sorta-kinda movie about Noah, more even like an allegory about his life then you'll realize it's not completely terribad.

IMHO

just plain ole terribad
23 October 2013
Sorry, but this is a pretty terrible movie. Judy Greer does a good job as being the cool coach and compassionate teacher "mother figure" and of course J.Moore can do no wrong... so with their two solid performances I grant this a 3star. However, that's where it stops with me.

I saw this movie, in a pretty decent sized theater and it was a good Saturday night crowd, in a metropolitain city. Even with that, the crowd seemed disengaged and everyone kinda left, as we did, kinda hoo hum what's for dinner? The girl who played Carrie, bless her heart, it was ssssooooo overacted that it seemed forced and contrived. I can imagine it must be intimidating to be in the same shot as J.Moore, but still it was pretty sad. She seems like a nice girl, and I hate to sound critical but it was just "forced." Really nothing can take away from the original, and most of all the ending to the original is so brilliant it could never be topped.

awesome....
28 May 2013
This could easily be my favorite of all 3. The plot, story-line is great and keeps you interested. You already know, and empathize with the characters if you'd be following from the beginning.

I was a lil skeptical, just bc I though HO II, was pretty terri-bad. This picks up kinda where two left-off, just hilar. Also, you know they are going to "end" the series, and they did such a good job at getting closer.

Also, hat-tip to screenwriters, etc., bc this one doesn't have anywhere near the "shock" value humor that 2 and 1, relied so heavily on. Instead, it's actually pg-13'ish, and you can tell they weren't going for over-played locker-room humor, but rather but some effort into the script.

All in all, it's awesome and definitely worth seeing.

Oh and Alan (Zack G.,) by far has the best lines in the movie, he's amazing.

terribad
20 January 2013
wow, that movie is so pretentious and hides behind the guise of "art." No seriously, it was so over-the-top it was like watching a porno movie, with some really cool music.

I will say, the film itself is really well done. Such as, the lighting, editing, camera angles, etc. However, the substance was quite grotesque and overtly disturbing.

One's rebuttal could be, "well that's the life he lives" Yes, I agree, but why so graphic? It was like the director/writer, was trying to be too provocative and was trying way too hard. Get that guy a gatorade and towel, bc he was really trying his best to be "edgy." Where it just comes across as being, laughably redunkulous.

I don't think I was that disturb by a movie since "Requiem for a Dream" another movie that deals with addictions, and tries way to hard to be "cutting-edge-in-your-face." I think if Paul Thomas Anderson did this movie, it would have been a lot better.

IMHO; of course.

Violently hysterical...
26 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, this movie is so funny and if you aren't careful you'll miss the pure genius of ....dare I say...one of the absolute top American Film Makers of our time.

Honestly, you have to expect that when seeing a QT movie, it's going to be a QT movie. Kinda like people who thought P.T.Anderson's "The Master" was boring or confusing; those individuals need to expect something different from the main stream.

At any rate, DJANGO's plot is pretty simplistic and not overly complicated. Most scenes you don't have to concentrate on the actual movement of the story, yet the dialog (very QT'esque) is BRILLIANT. The comedy, and subtle one-liners vastly offset the retro-throw-back super cheese Spght.Western violence, which is meant to be "campy." As far as acting, wow, everyone is on top of their game. Too include, Jonah Hill, who has one of the best cameos in a long time. The whole "KKK" scene, is HILARIOUS!!! I went with my brother, sister and her husband and we all were LOAO. With that, Leonardo is seriously a champion at his craft, he was amazing. I can't get over how well he played the character, it was exceptional. Christopher, was again simply breath-taking, he's so articulate and nails every line with perfect timing.

So to make this so long, BLUFF - if you are looking for another QT insta-classic, go see it. You won't be disappointed.

MY only NEGATIVE - is for somereason there were a TON, and I mean a TON of lil old grandma n grandpas there? We were all like, WTF, OVER? Why meemaw n papaw decided to go see a QT movie, on Xmas is mind-blowing.

It's purely awesome, and you need to see it in the theaters.

Taking a page from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
12 November 2012
Finally, they got a great story-line and a decent plot with-out just a shoot 'em up action flick. To be honest, the action sequences are great but not overdone either. Sam Mendes, is one of the greatest directors to date and he doesn't let us down with 007.

The movie in my opinion has pretty much lived-up to the expectation and makes Bond look like a total B/A, again.

I think Craig is amazing as Agent 007, and he's a wonderful actor for the role. He never "over acts" his part, and his serious face isn't irritating. I thought they kept it complex enough to be intrigued, enough action sequences to keep you entertained and a powerful storyline to keep you coming back for more.

All in all, it was awesome. If you are a regular dude, and enjoy the Bond films, yeah it's epic.

like 3 or 4 LOL moments..that's it...
22 January 2012
I literally LOL'd maybe like 3 - 4 times during the movie, as did the rest of the audience. Now I mean these were legitimate funny parts, that I thought were hilarious.

However, even as funny as those bits were, it doesn't cover-up the entirety of the dismalness this movie displays. The acting was so terribad, at parts, I was literally embarrassed watching the movie.

We won't even go into the string cheese plot and "uh-oh slapstick" mishaps that happen throughout the movie, which by the way, most of them completely defy any normal physics-based logic.

If you are a fan of Jonah Hill'esque movies (which I am) then I would lightly recommend "borrowing" this movie from a "friend" or maybe even breakdown and Netflix it. Just know you were warned.

All in all, it's pretty terrible and I felt kinda bored when it was over. IMHO of course.

A Serious Man (2009)

another cohen brothers overly-hyped movie
20 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Man, I wanted to like this movie so bad. If memory serves me correctly this came out around the same time as A Single Man did, actually I think they were in the theaters at the same time. At any rate, I just remember two movies with similar titles, and I wanted to see both. Well A Single Man, is by far one of the truest films of art made. This on the other hand is terribad. First off, this whole, abrupt ending and allowing the viewer to decide what happens, is sooooo "cliche artschool cornball not creative enough to take risk and write an ending so I'm gonna cop out" move. I mean The Wrestler does that the worse, but this is just as bad. I was literally laughing when the movie ended. The acting is so dismal and the truest sense of try-hard. I don't know if the Cohen brothers are Jewish, I would imagine they are, but even so it was like this pro-Jewish culture epitaph. I dunno, I thought it was supocorny, and with movies like this, and True Grit, how are your boys still making movies? IMHO of course. I won't even talk about the intro-scene?

Actually it's two "films" in one..
6 January 2012
I agree I could barely understand what the "whispering" was trying to convey? I found it to be at least pretentious and somewhat obnoxious. I will say that is not the worst movie, I've ever seen, not even the worse Brad Pitt movie for that matter (Babel holds that title.) Yes, I'm intelligent enough to get the point, yes I am a HUGE fan of Indie films, yes I am an above average movie goer, etc.etc.

For one, I think Brad Pitt was miscasted here, I don't know why, but he was almost "too big" to play such a part. He never sold the loving-overbearing father figure, it's odd but I was really disconnected from his performance. I kept thinking how awesome Colin Firth (albeit to old for the part and has a horrible southern accent) would have been.

Positive - I think the scenes of Nature and of Earth/Universe were exceptional. I think those were not CGI but actual footage of the cosmos, if so they were awe-inspiring. I kept hearing "How Great Thou Art" playing on repeat when watching those scenes.

In some respect certain scenes in this film, those which should be a National Geographic documentary/NASA documentary, pretty much in their own right rebut any aspect of the asinine ideology of evolution or it's down syndrome cousin "big bang theory."

Gotta read the book first...
1 January 2012
OK, let me start off with if you didn't read the book or see the mini-series then you might have a difficult time understanding who's who but more importantly the significance of certain scenes. That much I'll give people.

I knew the story well, I literally finished reading the book about a week ago, so it was still fresh. I'm thinking even if I didn't I for one didn't find the movie that terribly hard to follow. To be honest the film doesn't follow the book page for page. For instance, the opening scene in the book isn't shown till about 20-25 min into the movie. Also, there are minor changes in the dialog.

Of course I wish they would have given more character development to the other characters, other than that I have no complaints. I think it was beautifully made and I agree Gary Oldman was amazing. Colin Firth, wow three for three in these past three years. I'm serious, that guy has the golden touch (we won't mention Main Street) A Single Man, King's Speech and now this, all are awesome.

I saw this movie in Brooklyn, NY, it was PACKED and no one left the theater and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

If you read the book, you'll love it... just a couple changes...

awesomeness
29 December 2011
Not as bad-arse as the first one, but definitely keeps the same guy-ritchie'esque feel and swag to it throughout the movie. There were times when it drags, and one point where there's a naked dude walking around which I don't really quite understand how goes with the story/characterdevelopment/plot/priceofcheeseinbangladesh, etc... At any rate, the additions were subtle from the first one, but it definitely laid the ground-work for future SHs movies to be made, which I for one am a fan for. I know this won't win any awards, and I'm sure it won't be as highly praised as this year's winner of the terribad artsy film, The Tree of Strife, but it'll win all kinda awards in my book.

1) Film with the most BROmance - Winner 2) Film with the coolest running away from danger shot in slow-mo - Winner 3) Film with the best dialogue between good guy and bad dude - Winner

All in all, it's worth seeing but maybe not as good as MI:4.

It's an indie film...start with that in mind
16 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Hmm, well after reading most of the reviews on this site and itunes, I admit I was somewhat reluctant. I can seriously see why a lot of people weren't really feeling this movie, nor thought it was anything other than a complete waste of time. Well having the benefit of reading the reviews, I was "battle-ready" and almost nervous at how terribad it was going to be. However, my goal of watching every Colin Firth movie made, bc he's simply one of the greatest actors of all time, I was obligated by my moral pledge.

If you go into this movie, with the idea that it is an INDIE film, you will probably be better prepared for the pace, editing, character development, etc. It's a slow-burning movie, with some really powerful scenes. Especially between C.Firth and the youngest daughter, they were so sweet and endearing.

Also, the music, was awesome. The opening song is a glorious, old-school Church Hymnal, which beautifully portrayed the scene and mood. Additionally, a heavy dose of Modest Mouse and Alexisonfire (two great bands) make their way into the movie perfectly.

All-in-all, you probably have to be a really really big fan of C.Firth, and KNOW you are watching an Indie film. If you are a fan of both, then it's certainly entertaining and worth the film.

SPOILER Lastly, I thought the movie ended wonderfully, not to spoil the movie, but I was disappointed after reading so many reviews how it "just ended." Not the case, you can take from that scene that everything's going to be alright, and they are on the road to recovery.

The Big Year (2011)

awesome movie with an indie feel..
26 November 2011
First off, the landscape and scenery was awesomesauce, and shot perfectly for the film.

The acting was air-tight, and totally believable on all accounts... the characters all had depth and came from different walks to pursue a common hobby/passion.. totally plausible..

the comedy wasn't this played-out, corny, hella weak "slapstick" or a bunch of penis jokes, which was funny the first 20 times I saw it done. Actually, it was light-hearted by still relevant to the story sorta "cat n mouse" totally hilar, but on a subtle note.

Lastly, it gives a good lesson to the viewer without being preachy (127 hours). It's a great flick, for those who appreciate a good film, but you kinda gotta be an indie film lover, or you may not get it.

i give it 4 outta 5 legen...wait for it... dairies..

pretentious and quasi-corny
24 November 2011
It's no surprise this movie would do well with critics etc., filled with a preachy pretentiousness that is generally seen as epic. I thought the scenery was gorgeous, and the overall filming was definitely unique in it's own right. However, as much as I love James Franco, I thought this movie feel flat and was wwwaayyy over the top with it's "message." The whole, don't know what you got till it's (almost) gone, and the, I'm gonna start living my life for the one's I love, etc. To be honest, came across as super cheese, preachy. What would have been funny, is I bet if this movie had the same message, but that of one with Christianity, it would have been seen as "preachy" from the Hollywood Hipsters. I'd recommend Soul Surfer, way cooler and better scripted.

British Comedy
24 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This is a decently scripted film, with great actors. I thought Ms. Jessica did an OK job, she was certainly gorgeous!!! At times though, it seems she over-acted her parts, and it was quasi-irritating. Colin Firth, who is probably the world's greatest actor (right alongside with Philip Semyour Hoffman) was amazing, and super funny... except I felt his character didn't have enough involvement, or needed to be more involved with the story.

The ending is actually really good, which holds a lot of weight in book.

SPOILERS! I thought the dog n couch scene was a lil played-out, and probably woulda been funnier, if it wasn't drawn-out, and found myself thinking, OK, well this is kinda cliché but cute, then it got to, umm OK got it, let's move on.

The dance scene with Firth and Biel, was actually really awesome choreographed with super skill. I was really impressed with their tango, which is not easy to pull off. Well played sir, well played.
