Citizen Kane (1941)
Why it is really reference material- you must watch
This movie is a visual explosion, if it had been in colour that could have added to that. The cinematography used in this movie is far ahead and it tells why directors refer this movie. The story telling is also unique and ahead of time. You could not like the story or you could be ok with it but it is good too. And the make up used to show different stages of life of characters are also not common to that era. Overall lot to take from this movie. It's an epic of sorts.
Aruvi (2016)
Must watch movie
It is an excellent and unique movie. The story unfolds onto you gradually. Nearing to end it grows with various emotions and just flows freely. A good approach to different kind of storyline. Music and performances are great.
Goodalochana (2017)
Hiccupy starting, satisfying closure
The first half of the movie is usual jobless youths trying to make shortcut money, while later half it gets better with some nice movements. If you have patience you may enjoy the movie at least one time. Performances are ok, music and screenplay are let downs.
2067 (2020)
A descent sci-fi movie
2067 is descent movie, which you can watch on a go. It's not such mind twisting kind of sci-fi movies yet captivates you. You don't need explanations for the ending, yes it's entertaining.
Angamaly Diaries (2017)
raw classic
You have to have good appetite to watch and accept a path breaking cult movies. Angamali dairies is an exceptional movie and Lijo Jose has created another classic, he is proving to be one of the best directors in India and of different league. The performances of all the actors are par and technicalities are also excellent. Overall an unusual outing for moviegoers with unusual story telling, music, background score and climax. background score sets the tone for the pace of the movie and the local settings of that area. One may remember the effect similar to that of Pulp fiction and Nolan movies. Scripting also is excellent.
Pulimurugan (2016)
A magnificent Action movie
When you talk about a movie like 'Pulimurugan' you don't have privilege to criticize much, because lots of efforts put on by the cast and the technical team is evident in shots particularly forest scenes. The script i earlier half is gripping and takes the movie experience to extraordinary levels. In later half the cliché scenes comes up with let down though the action scenes still comes to fascinate you and makes you forget those repetitions. The animations of tiger though are weaker since Malayalam movies can't afford the large expenses on these technicalities, it does not affect our entertainment quota. Actors in movie are of good capabilities but this is almost a one man show, yes Mohan Lal shadows all performances. He has performed all the action and drama scenes with perfection. Other actors are also good in their roles. The character of Bala is another well crafted character but by the end it flatters. Background score is the backbone of action sequences without which it could have been not much effective. The script includes all the ingredients in it be it drama, thrill or comic scenes, so it can be clearly said the script stands as the winner here. But no script is complete unless it is executed with perfection by its director and actors. Director Vyshaag had previously shown good skills in captivating colors of Punjab in 'Mallu Singh' and his venture 'Seniors' was too color full and entertainer; he has carried all those skills in to 'Pulimurugan' and justified with script and calibers of all the actors and provided us an excellent action packed movie. Apart from these the person who has to be appreciated most is Peter Hein for choreographing great action sequences and depicting it to perfection when comes to fight sequence including tiger. The animators have given appropriate body language to the tiger within their limits.Anyway this is a must watch movie which entertains and thrills you. The rating could be 7 but for action and scenic filming 8 will only justify.
Transcendence (2014)
a new perspective- a descent one
i was unaware of the details of the movie when i started watching this one. on beginning i felt i was watching Nolan movie but the presentation isn't that perfect. the movie gives you a fresh perspective of artificial intelligence without much of violence. actors have given a good performance and technicality is also good. the story slows down somewhere and scenes also slows most of the places. many of the Nolans actors are placed with similar kinda characters they play in his movies. its a good fiction doesn't drain you mentally.watch it for a descent sci- fi. Johny depp gives you his trademark performance. the movie falls short in the direction and editing which could have been better.
Bãhubali: The Beginning (2015)
Extraordinary is the only word for the movie
Baahubali is a visual magic ever made in Indian cinema. Ever since the news of the making of this movie by most prolific director similar to Shankar SS Rajamouli in India i was eagerly waiting. And after watching the respect for the director has doubled, he is continuing mesmerizing us after movies like Magadheera and Eega both of which were blockbusters and hold cult status in Indian cinema. But when it comes to Baahubali it goes further ahead- the movie is placed on the next level close to Mughal-E-Azam and Pather Panchali not for the script but for sheer excellence, Sathyajith Ray was a legend in himself and his movies stood out differently, what brings Rajamouli close is the way he has placed Indian cinema with dedication, efforts and technical excellence in this movie. Excel in movie making thats what you see in the movie. So even if there is flaws in script you have had a classic in itself after you come out of theater. As an Indian audience you always want Indian epic movies to made not at the level but least near to the scale of movies like Lord of the rings, Gladiator and Baahubali comes close to many extent and has excelled in visualization of some scenes including first scene and the war scenes. It is great effort from all departments in the movie and never deserves criticism. You just give hI5....watch it in original language at theaters only. Technicality is what to we expect from the movie and performances are also good, lead actors Prabhas and Rana are very good and Remya Krishnan is the highlight. Waiting for the conclusion.
Premam (2015)
well scripted entertainer
Premam- we expect a love tragedy from the trailers and posters. But its a roller coaster comic love stories well scripted and captured. Lead actors have performed well and music is above average and love songs are memorable. Nivinism is the new word for his performance and he has excelled in this character. Editing in final portions is the only setback. Renji Panicker in a small role just roared the theater with his punch dialogue. An overall entertainer and mass.watch it n enjoy it. Dnt think seriously it isn't a all in all love. Cinematography is the very good and soothing.supporting artists are the highlight of the movie, each one of them has done their part well, actually similar to 1983 this movie depends a lot on supporting actors.leading lady's are all beautiful and performed good.direction and script are the stars of the movie.
Piku (2015)
a piece of life- presented beautifully
director Shoojit sircar is one director who has told different stories in different moods and styles. this venture is entirely refreshing two his earlier ones and best one. the script successfully depicts emotions and psychology of grown ups in the families their attention seeking persona and comically the constipation issues. whats refreshing is the response of two protagonist characters response to these issues piku and rana chowdhary. all the actors have performed well, Irrfan khan is at ease and Mr. Bachhan is excellent, Deepika is good. other supporting actors also have performed well...Raghubir yadav is always simplistically delightful. The cinematography, locations where also nice. The climax portion should have been more clarified.
1983 (2014)
1983: a movie every cricket fan would enjoy
The movie begins with the iconic speech of retirement by the greatest Indian cricketer Sachin, although you know its the story of a cricket you surely starts expecting a good sporty entertainer and the movie never falls short of that. movie unfolds the story of a cricket frenzy guy from rural Kerala who like many Indian youngsters has their leisure time spent on cricket with group of local guys. the talents of whom never comes out of the rural circles. the movie reminds of the small cricket tournaments guys plays in weekends . meanwhile the Nivin Paulys's character is supported by his cricket team friends who similar to him has failed to make it big in their lives. movie unfolds the story with important events in Indian cricket . Nivin Pauly's performance is excellent and the supporting artists also justified their part with ease. the movie has a bunch of next generation artists whose performances shows that Malayalam movie industry has lot of talented character artists in store for future.the movie is captivating and never goes below par, the screenplay is also up to the mark.the perfection in the cricket scenes shows that the director had good done good home work before getting in to the movie. the characters looks, costumes and location also has been well improvised. actor Anoop Menon also plays his part with ease.the movie is just like a true story of a generation of cricket lovers and backyard cricketers whose talents never reached the top 11. the story spans the journey of Indian cricket from major city guys to lads of small towns. its just nostalgic for the generation and almost everyone who had played cricket in their backyard would love to revisit the movie. and for non lovers of cricket its the tale of living your passion throughout your life.... you can still enjoy the love life of Nivin Paulys' character and the final thing is it entertaining....yes it is....and everyone in India knows who's Sachin.
