Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Don't waste your time
Genuinely awful movie, possibly the worst movie I have ever seen, taking into account this movies pretty high budget.
After about 30minutes, I really felt the only thing to do was take it as a comedy spoof on the horror/slasher genre, then it became just about bearable.
Everything about the original has been lost. It seems they were trying to cash in on the recent Halloween sequels success by having an elderly revenge seeking Jamie Lee Curtis ripoff character.
The most annoying thing about the movie is how nothing they do is possible. From the bizarre unbelievable 'revive the town' premise, to the age of leatherface, (he should have been about 70years old), plus the chainsaw(no rust?), also chainsaw(blades go blunt), also chainsaw(who has used a chainsaw that could cut through floorboards and strut in under a second...), finally if people have chainsaws cut through them, they don't stay alive for 5 minutes...
Awful movie.
Zoo (2018)
Good, sad movie. Not a zombie nonsense movie.
Good independent-like movie.
Not just another bs zombie slasher movie.
But warning... if u r in a childless relationship, give this a miss. It cuts far too close to the bone and will just depress you. (Not sure why society thinks, infertile couples are fair game for movies... every other minority gets protection... why are we the forgotten ones?)
Troop Zero (2019)
Fabulous, touching movie
This was a refreshing change to all the 'watch and forget' movies being made these days. I actually got teary at the end. Such a great movie, great cast and great message. Def recommend.
Greed (2019)
Awful movie.
Terrible movie. So full of accurate stereotypes. Even though this is supposed to be (I think) an expose of greed and corruption in the world of finance, showing the contrast between the haves and the have nots.
I think the viewer is supposed to empathise with the poor characters such as the syrian refugees and sri lankan factory workers and immigrants. What we actually see is an accurate portrayal of the 'refugees' arriving in europe. Homeless, thieving, layabouts who bring their me me me personalities to europe. And the sri lankan immigrant woman who defends the other immigrants before letting the lion out to kill her employer.
And! The insinuation that the wages are too cheap in the factory? We hear in one scene a 3km taxi ride costs 180rupees in 1980. And then we hear that the so called underpaid factory workers are paid 800rupees per day. Decent money for a factory worker in a country where general costs are low!!
Such a dull, disappointing movie, don't waste your time.
Extraction (2020)
Watch 'Proof of Life' instead
Such a shame, but it seems that hollywood stopped making decent movies in 2005 or so.. :(
The premise for this movie was decent, hostage rescue, set it in india.. that could have been original.. but then they turn it into a 'invincible soldier runs about killing thousands of masked bad guys' piece of nonsense. And what's worse, they try and make it into somekind of emotional journey... Such a disappointment, really actors like chris helmsworth? need to stop chasing the netflix paycheck and be more picky about the types of movies they accept. For sure netflix might pay well just now, but if he makes another one of these turkeys he'll soon find himself stuck in b-movie limbo.
Di caprio is the only actor I can think of who isn't chasing netflix cash and is protecting his name...
Anyway, I'm gonna rewatch 'proof of life' a proper hostage rescue movie.
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
It's a kids movie.
Gave this a low 3 out of 10 because basically this new spiderman is just 'baby ironman's junior high school days'. It wasn't a terrible movie, but it's blatantly aimed at junior high/high school kids... which was weird because the theatre I was in on Fridsy evening was mainly mid twenties and up... The story was OK and with this being the third spidermen reboot since 2000, I guess they couldn't really have done another 'boy gets bitten by spider, boys uncle gets killed, boy becomes good spiderman' movie, but I wish they had just made stand alone spiderman. Not 'baby spiderman meets father figure Avengers member Ironman'
I think this movie was made to appeal to the 50 percent or so of children in America being raised in a single parent household... great for them, but not so much for 35 year old, Toby maguire spiderman fan me.
So overall s disappointing movie, not terrible, just far, far, far from great.
The Mummy (2017)
what was tom cruise thinking?
i'll keep this short... I usually only come on here to write about movies I really love or really hate... And I really, really didn't like the mummy. I'm a big fan of Tom Cruise, usually funny, charismatic etc, so even if the movie he is in is pretty bad, his charisma usually makes up for bad story lines, script etc, but not for the mummy. So whats so bad about it? 1. stupid story 2. very poor script 3. is the movie action, comedy, horror, romance? =none or all, no one knows.. 4. tom cruise, doesn't fit horror movies, because u know Tom Cruise is never in any real peril. 5. the love interest in this... it goes from the two main characters hardly knowing each other to being madly in love over the period of about 3 days... 6. russell crow as Jekyll and hyde? why? and even if there was a point to his character, his monster character is pretty much they same as his normal character... totally pointless.. 7. this was a B movie, with B movie script, acting and directing... the only thing that got it in theatres was Tom Cruise and the massive budget... So really, what was Tom Cruise thinking? Hopefully this is his last real dud.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Great stuff! Watch in 4dx!
Ten out of ten for a movie experience! I loved the first couple of Pirates movies, but after the first two just hated the rest, they were imo dull, by numbers movies just made to cash in on the poor fans... So when I was dragged along to see this in 4dx I had really low expectations, and it turned out in 4dx to be like one long, exciting Disney ride, being sprayed with water every time they crashed in the sea, and having bubbles floating around when they find treasure, and the seats shaking at just the right times. The great, genuinely fun, storyline and cast combined with 4dx was amazing, this movie was made for 4dx and 4dx was made for this movie! Aside from the 4dx, the new cast were all great. Its not often recently I've left the cinema having enjoyed myself, but this was a great return to form and I'll be telling my friends to go see this in 4dx.
Table 19 (2017)
Awful, predictable movie.
The movie's poster showed a decent cast... so I thought it was going to be some kind of slapstick Ben Stiller like movie, unfortunately it turned out instead to be a horrible attempt at recreating the breakfast club, and other 80s movies where a bunch of rejects end up finding happiness or something...
The thing is 45 minutes into this movie and I still didn't care about the people sitting at table 19. And even though I didn't care what happened to these obnoxious people, the movie still carried on like the viewers will give a damn about this bunch of unlikable, unlikely people...
This is just one big nothing of a movie... if the main characters have zero charm or charisma, how does the director expect people to care about the stories they have to tell?
So anyway, if you are looking for a coming of age movie, try the breakfast club, but do yourself a favor and give this movie a wide berth...
Jug Face (2013)
Very disappointing...
Someone on here had the nerve to say this movie was a cross between "The wicker man" and hill billy horror movies like the first wrong turn...
Well it's not...
I'd been looking forward to it given the interesting synopsis. Hick American locals have ancient ritual, where if the pot maker makes a jug that looks like you, the towns folk sacrifice you to an old mythical pit.
It started off OK, but as soon as the towns folk started getting killed left right and centre any suspense was lost. Note to film makers, the less people that die the more of a climax/shock there is when one of the characters we have bought into dies...
It also had a really cheap feel to it. Obviously a quite low budget movie, but if they had saved some money on paying actors like Sean Young(she's nothing special in terms of acting anyway...) they could have spent some more money on... well anything else really...
It's a shame, because the concept was quite interesting...
The Hot Flashes (2013)
This is horrible.
I'm 50 minutes into this movie as I write this review.
Other reviews have said that this movie is hit or miss, you're either going to love it or hate it... As I'm watching a middle aged American woman wrestle with a teenage girl on a basketball court, I'm thinking that the target audience has to be really, really heavy women from the South of America.
For everybody else, watching Brooke Shields play an aging, hick, do-gooder American woman is just going to be depressing.
I'd certainly not bother going to watch this at the theatre, unless you happen to live in the town in which it was filmed, and downloading/renting the DVD is probably not worth your time either.
