The Wiz (1978)
OZ NEVER had as much soul as it does NOW!!!
everyone wants to hate on this film - go ahead & hate! i love this film & there isn't anything ANYONE can say to make me change my views(& i seen this film when it first came out in 1978!!...when Siskel & Ebert both dissed this film).
granted, Diana Ross should've kept her old ass out of the film, but everyone - & i DO mean EVERYONE else in the film did a magnificent job in their performances.
i take nothing away from the original "Wizard Of OZ", as that's a classic - but "The Wiz" is a classic in its own right, as well.
so much soul, you KNOW the soundtrack is a must-have!!;)
this film is timeless & is slowly beginning to receive some respect amongst everyone(it was only us Afrikan-Americans who embraced this film, fully, at first). it's a nice twist on a classic plot.
...so, don't listen to haters, listen to your heart.;)
Paris Is Burning (1990)
update..
to give folks an update on the individuals interviewed in "Paris Is Burning", Angie Xtravaganza, Dorian Corey & just last year(or early this year?), Pepper LaBeija all passed-away, unfortunately. ...they will all be missed.:(
Willi Ninja's still on the performing scene. ...as is Sade Pendavis(from my understanding). ..i'm not sure what has become of the rest of the cast, though.
to this day, i watch this film as if it's the first time seeing it....i, personally, would like Ms. Livingston to make a follow-up film, catching back-up with the surviving individuals....as i'm sure a good many of you would like to see as well.;)
