Captivating from beginning to end
25 September 2022
I've always adored Tyler Perry, even though his Medea can sometimes get on my nerves, but this film is phenomenal! I loved the bluesy music; the story is so heartbreaking at times, and the authenticity of the era is outstanding! This took him years to come to fruition, but it was well worth it. A love story to remember for years. Powerful stuff that this couple had to endure because of Jim Crow South and the horrible racism. Still too familiar.

Also the struggle with his only brother's jealousy ~ heart-breaking on so many levels. Joshua Boone will become a major star after this movie makes its rounds.

Who Greenlights drivel like this?
6 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What in the world is going on when something as lame and immature as this gets approval? And to add insult to disgusting dialogue, it panders to teen age boys, but apparently several "B" comics decided to be in it, rather than not act at all. I am so surprised that Netflix would even Okay such an awful piece of garbage. As for Ken Jeong, he'll do anything just to add to his list of raunchy films.

2020 Season 2
18 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I must agree with several other reviewers from last season regarding the loud, obnoxious laughtrack. Yes, it may be in front of a "studio audience" but when it's interrupting some of the dialogue it gets down right annoying to the point of turning it off. I much prefer his comedy specials, however I've seen them all. The classmates are becoming better at comedy, but again, the laugh track is not doing them any favor.

Inept Cop ~ Foul mouthed kid Flick
5 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Because of the adult stars I managed to watch the entire movie. But I was disgusted by the writers who obviously conspired to write like 15 yr old boys and put all the worse language into a film, and use it on a kid. They must've thought it was hilarious (doing too much dope?) because they gave it their all. It is no wonder some latch-key children learn the sordid facts of life thru watching films like this. What a shame Ed succumbed to this level. Watch it if you choose but please mute most of what the kid says until close to the obvious end.

Eye-Catching and Binge-worthy
12 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Since I adore RuPaul I wanted to give it a try. It hooked me from the very beginning. I enjoyed it because I wanted to learn more about drag queen shows, as well as the lead actor and producer. For story-line I must admit it had me with the pull 'n tug between Ruby and AJ. How horrible that a child must resort to stealing in order to survive. All because of her drug-addicted mother. The other side of the coin was having her see, first-hand, how certain "grifters" prey on gay men or trans, whatevers. They're nasty. I cannot fathom living a day with that kind of sickness driving you to exploit another by charming them, then scamming them. Ruby's relentless tries at educating AJ "right from wrong" are sometimes hilarious, and other times, sober necessities. I'm anxious to see the remaining episodes, but also a bit downhearted.

Finally, a well-scripted REAL LIFE scenario
26 October 2019
I gave their 2nd season a "10" because I think it's even better than last years. I sometimes chuckle a little at certain movies, but this has me laughing out loud. The innuendoes, the snide asides, all keep me smiling throughout. And yes, NO laugh track to distract and make one bristle. My only beef is having to watch Micheal Douglas with that crap on his face. It doesn't do him (or any man) justice. It takes away from his charisma. So, I honestly binge-watched 4 episodes and look forward to more this evening.

Enjoyable threesome; but one flaw.
3 August 2019
Having only one son myself, I enjoyed the premise. Even though my boy wouldn't treat me the way they were treated. However, I wouldn't arrive at his apt. un-announced either. Naturally I adored the 3 Executive Producers' main actors very much. Each had their own, personal story that came out 3/4's of the movie. My only beef is that writer's feel they must have their actors drink "shots after shots" after drinking champagne for hours, just to explain their subsequent antics. I know for certain, after all that drinking I'd be incoherent and probably passed out for hours on end. For me, it was a delightful 1.5 hours of a story that a myriad of subplots. The ending was a nice, tidy wrap-up.

Losing Interest
28 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Although I loved, loved this show from the beginning, I'm either becoming restless or else I cannot see why the finale was such a waste of time. Watching Christina bake (in an oven that's clearly never been used) while people sing their songs, is not worth watching (between the endless commercials). I was hoping for more of a cliff-hanger, but by the time they return, I'll have forgotten or not cared anymore. The only saving factor of last night's episode was that she shot that nasty dealer. And that the girls were no longer under arrest. But wait . . . I gave it a 2nd chance. Who directs this show? There's never any sign of all their children, plus no responsibility for their families. Real people do not act this way.

Bye, Bye Binging!
26 March 2019
Well! What a disappointment when I tried to watch another episode of my fave FIVE and discovered I'd watched the entire 3 Seasons' worth! Having loved this show since I first clicked onto it about 6 wks ago. They've shown so many diverse situations, all of which were handled with kid gloves. Extremely interesting how each man handled his particular venue. I have bragged at length to many friends and neighbors. Now I've nothing to watch (i.e.. sit back and be educated) until they do more Seasons. What an eye-opener for so many lucky nominees. I will miss my "guys".

Madea's Last ~ R.I.P.
4 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
While I adore Tyler Perry and all he's done for making some funny movies, I could barely sit through this. Too much dialogue, too much Tyler playing all those parts; four of them this time. It reminded me of Eddie Murphy and his schtick. Yes, I laughed out loud, I shuddered in parts, but it took way too long to get to the meat of the matter. A weak premise that was dragged out f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Only to wrap it up quickly towards the end.

What a Surprising Disappointment
19 January 2019
I decided to read other reviews, just in case I was being too sensitive towards this new sit-com, however I find myself agreeing with every person who found it awful to watch. What's with the laugh-track? Ms. Dobrov been told to go "over the top" but all it does is make each character look like they're in a high school production. I really wanted this to be a smash hit, considering Gary Cole's my favorite. There's no way I'd ever believe that Ms. Dobrov was ever as wild as her younger sister. The soon to be mother-in-law is so over the top (making the writers deliriously happy) that I cannot wonder how she ever accepted being this character. Shameful.

Eye Candy Meets Video "Friend" wih a Twist o' Lemon
30 September 2018
Forget the other two movies I was planning on seeing today. After the reviews on this I decided to try it. Amazingly exciting, funny, scary, mysterious, witty, and never a dull moment. Most of it because of the direct opposites in Anna Kendrick and the long-legged, super sexy Blake Lively. I highly recommend seeing this without any popcorn on ones lap, because it has some unexpected twits & turns that will keep your eyes popping!

Touching, Authentic and Thoughtful
8 May 2018
Even though some reviewers thought this less than I, when I saw the trailers I knew I wanted to see this. So I went in with open eyes and hopefulness that this would be as good. I was not disappointed. If Leonardo had not been recognized by his sister he would have perished in some rest home. But unknowingly, Kate saved his soul. Within the confines of hard labor he found true friendship from his compadres, and an instant responsibility of raising 3 daughters by learning how to be a "housewife" as well. Onboard his yacht, well, he had nothing but playtime and boredom. Destined to die early of cirrhosis of the liver or worse. It had a very happy ending, and all's well. I recommend it to anyone who's tired of the phony-baloney Marvel movies.

I'm Happily Surprised
6 March 2018
Unlike other reviewers, I absolutely love this show! The actors are marvelous, the premise is believable, and the comedy actually makes me laugh. I cannot wait for the next episode. How nice to see these dramatic actresses in a new vein. I've even recommended it to my girlfriend in Idaho. Guess I enjoy a difference of opinion then some of the others, but I will look forward to more of these ladies' capers.

My Best Choice for honest information nightly
4 November 2017
Having clicked on Page Six's website for years (when I was working) I decided to try this new show, PageSix.com. LOVE it. Have recorded it so that I don't miss one episode. Outside of the annoying audience's cheering loudly, it's my choice for the in depth information and important trivia from their 3 commentators. John Fugelsang is a wry host, with his sarcastic flair, which makes me feel "included" in the nightly bantering between all the wonderful staff. Great show; I'm so pleased I found it.

I rest my case
18 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Apparently, other reviewers feel the same as I. It's a shame, really. Great actors, a decent premise, but it just seemed to fall flat for my tastes. I gave it 3 episodes before I couldn't put up with the fabricated, totally unrealistic plots. If I had a roommate who stayed up all night doing cocaine, just to get some grandiose ideas, AND after I explained I had surgery at 07:00 the following morning, only to be ignored, that would be the end of our joint tenancy. If any couple can't refrain from copulating in cars and anywhere else they may be found out easily, don't you think their spouses would have picked up the vibes long before this encounter? It just isn't real life, not in any way, shape or possible form. Why doesn't someone stop this nonsense before the writers & directors think they've got a hit show? And why does Netflix try to be the HBO of all time, with explicit sex right off the bat? What a waste of everyone's time.

Choked up and loving every minute of it!
2 July 2017
Having wanted to see this for awhile I was so happy to note that it exceeded my expectations. Others have written about the story line, so I'll just leave it with this: the story, those boys, Naomi's breathtaking performance, well, each one had me at the edge of my seat. It will resound with me for many weeks to come. I was so enthralled! In fact, I'd like to see it again, at a later date. Which in my rankings, means It's definitely a "ten".

I gave it the Old Try
15 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Because it is on Netflix, as well as having Will Arnett as the main character, I felt it would be a good show. After 2-3 episodes I was left feeling "unfulfilled" and wondering why. Many great shows are written by men, and there a few others that are lousy, in my opinion, and written by females. But this annoyed me so much with the trite dialogue. Do these two gentlemen think they can write as they speak? Full of "F"words, with young women gratuitously getting screwed, then rolling over and checking their emails? Sigh. I couldn't take his constantly bicycling thru the streets of Venice and boring me to death, so I switched to "House of Cards" and reveled in the excellent writing there. This show may be watchable by some, and knowing their taste, will have more seasons. To wit, "The Ranch" with Ashton Kutcher.

What should have been
3 April 2016
I'm in total agreement with a few other reviewers on the choice of actors playing Colt & Rooster. But the worse part of this series is the awful laugh track. I almost keep waiting for a commercial to come on. It's so annoying! I am thrilled to see Debra Winger return. She's wonderful! And I'll go to super market openings if Sam Eliot (the silver fox) is appearing there. But between the constant bickering of the brothers, and the ever presence of beer swigging (who's stocking their fridge?) it got stale as spilled beer on a bar floor, after the 7th episode. Being obvious that it is filmed on the Warner Bros. lot, instead of the outdoors, makes it unbelievable as well. To me, what I anticipated turned out to be just another remake of another sitcom with adult words thrown in to stir up juvenile reactions. Some lines were poignant and very serious, and Wham! suddenly a laugh track that did NOT belong there! Where's my Jon Favreau when you need a great writer and director!

Excellent and Extremely Authentic
12 July 2014
After reading the critic's review, I felt it necessary to see it for myself this afternoon. A terrific idea!

Although I abhor violence, and there was plenty, I found that it had so many moments of tenderness, understanding, and hope for both species. I usually avoid futuristic films, as they are bogus, from beginning to end. I watch "everything". This film captured the despair, the hope, the confusion of humans, as well as the apes, living in Muir woods. This film showed so much authenticity. Oh, there were questions I'd give the screenwriters, but basically, it pulled me in. Excellent CGI, and those EYES! Unbelievable. Do see it! You will be in awe!

I agree with most of the reviewers
9 December 2012
Because I can't write a spoiler, I'll merely hint at the basics of this un-moving film. Watching on regular TV (numerous commercials) I would remote to other programs, but always returning to this. How could I not? I adore all the actors. James L. Brooks is a fantastic sit-com writer as well. Then why did the dialogue continue with inane wording? It needed to be edited in the worse way. I kept waiting for something magnificent to happen, and it droned on like a grammar school play. What a shame; but then again, ya gotta have stinkers if you hope for a few "roses". At least it was on TV, so I didn't lose anything but time. They're all still gifted actors, writers, etc. Just wasn't their baliwick this time around. Sigh.

Every Season is Fabulous!
8 April 2012
Okay, I've read many of the other reviews, mostly from 5-6 years ago, but I'm only seeing "Rescue Me" for the very first time (2012) thru Netflix. I LOVE, LOVE it. I watch episode after episode and am amazed at the truthfulness, the camaraderie between firefighters, the mistakes they make, the grittiness mixed with tenderness . . just too wonderful to shut out, after I've gone to bed. I feel so close to these guys. Having always liked Denis Leary's stand-up, I am now equally impressed at his writing skills, along with Mr. Tolan. I don't know how many episodes I'll be allowed to watch thru Netflix's Instant Streaming, but I know one thing, I'll be bummed-to-the-core when it does end. Why can't other TV shows get smart and take clues from this excellent drama? My next venture, "The Job" . . let's see if he continues to amaze me.

What a TREAT!
9 November 2011
No one would join me for this matinée, but I sat there, laughing and enjoying every single moment. On my tip-toes when they hoisted the car over the side of the building. I loved the humor, the suspense, and everything fell into place. Unlike so many of today's movies that are so "out of there" or left field. This is gonna be my recommendation to all my friends.

(Excuse me, I just read that I must write at least 10 lines in order to place my review) Since when did this outlandish law take place?) I believe anyone can say ANYTHING in two words, or more, and not be restricted to a certain amount. {you're askin' for trouble!}

I was blown away!
1 June 2011
After reading other reviews/opinions ~ I must add mine as well. When I saw the trailer (via computer & IMDb) I KNEW I had to see this film. the lines outside the theatre were around the block. We were next in line for the following show . . yeah, that popular. My 1st impression of it had me oohing and aahing, and laughing as well with the rest of the audience. I love "time-travel", love Paris, love Woody Allen, so naturally, this movie swept me away. My original thought of "why Owen Wilson"? was quickly quelled when I realized he's the perfect Southern Calif. man from 2011. He played it to the hilt! It gave all the other actors a special patina of another era. And Woody wrapped it up nicely, even if we suspected this might occur. I want to see it again!

Lame, Oh so Lame
24 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I have given myself a day to calm down before 'voicing' my critique of this shoddy film. What happened to the terrific Matthew Modine? So much of it needed editing. The contrived situations, the change in mood, the ridiculous outcome . . . why? Could have been a fairly decent film, if only someone with brains would have stepped in and watched the dailies. Pitiful. Example: if someone is a teetotaler, they have ways to refuse taking a drink. Chug-a-lugging wine, just to bolster ones nerve, is extremely juvenile, and not in character for our leading lady. Why resort to gym shoes, when dancing barefoot has been the norm for hundreds of years. (Not that the wedding was even formal, which is another atrocity). Nothing jived. Scrambled nonsense. Only satisfying moment was when her selfish fiancée exited her life.
