Good Horror

Hopefully this film gets a better rating as time goes on because it deserves it. This movie allows you to think while you are watching it - certainly mysterious and you are not sure what to expect next. Really good cast of just 5 actors really. One of the three actresses I recognized and she is very well cast. All the actors are good. Two seem Eastern European, I especially liked the woman who played Magda. This movie is a good scare. Better than the average junk. I recommend it for sure.

Fantastic cinema. The lead is so great as to be unbelievable. She was in WestWorld & played a prostitute. Perfectly cast film. Amanda Plummer is in it. Quite deep. Beautifully directed by James Bird. Watch it alone or with a loved one. Curl up and enjoy.

Ten Stars

First of all, I find it disheartening that this has such a low rating. I just finished the film and I found it to be extremely interesting. The dynamics of the family and the circumstances they and the citizens of planet Earth were going through. Fine acting by everyone involved. One of the very best films Ihave seen in this genre. See for yourself. High praise for this film.

In The Cut - Good Flick

Read some of the titles of the dunce reviewers who gave this gem a 1 - same morons that gave The Shawshank Redemption 10's. They're ridiculous so don't read the morons because it will kill off some brain cells or at least leave you sad. Just saw the movie on HBO GO - where was I when this came out? Anyway,, beautiful film by Jane Campion. Wonderfully cast, Meg Ryan shines - Jennifer Jason Leigh is great as always - Mark Ruffalo fantastic as a NYC homicide detective. The film has it all - just watch it. Suspense, sexual dynamics between men and women, humor, poetry. I loved this film. Straight 8 from beginning to end.

Excellent
3 January 2018
Since most movies are kind of lame I was expecting this one to be no different. Science Fiction movies are one of my favorite genres but nearly all of them suck. I was pleasantly surprised that I saw a really good one this time. I thought it was a bit slow going at first but I stuck it out. Well acted throughout, good direction, and an intriguing plot. I highly recommend this to any movie fan.

Awful
4 July 2010
This movie is full of awful. Terrible in so many ways. First of all the acting is non existent, well it exists but it is terrible by everyone in it, of course the actors haven't too much to say with such a horrible script to work with. The camera work is some of the worst I have ever seen - truly atrocious. I realize this movie had a low budget but whatever money was spent on this thing was money completely wasted.

The people who put up the money would have been better off to spend their money on something more worthwhile than to create this completely unedifying, unentertaining, amateurish excuse for a film. Why does anyone bother to take the time to produce such crap. What good does a film like this do? It's not about the lesbian thing - it's just about bad films in general. Surely they must know at the time that what they are doing is really an insult to good film-making.

Camping

Warning: Spoilers
Lots of fun this movie is. Great cast. A Peyton Place with more sex and drugs. Melodromatic to the extreme. Music isn't so bad. Lots of words for that period that were verboten usually. I can imagine the 17 year olds that got into the theaters at that time. I bet it was rated M. You can't beat Patty Duke in a bra. Barbara Parkins was a Breck Girl and the sweet Sharon Tate broke my heart in every scene. Sharon's scenes were absolutely the best. Georgie Jessel and Joey Bishop were fun to see. I thought the New England scenery was very nice as well as the old cars. This movie is a comedy except for the Beautiful and Sweet Sharon. That makes it a tragicomedy both literally and figuratively. This is a good camping out movie.

Go To Hell
18 February 2006
I loved this gem from Roman Polanski. I haven't seen a bad Polanski film and this one didn't let me down either. It is the best "devil" movie that I have yet to see. I really enjoyed how the film differentiated between bogus Satanism and what would more likely be the case if Lucifer were to make his presence known. Johnny Depp is brilliantly cast as the shady rare books dealer and Frank Langella gives his best performance as the millionaire Satanist intent on finding the final page of a spell that was reportedly written by The Dark One himself. This is an intelligently written and well acted film directed by one of the masters of cinema. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end.

Good as it gets
17 February 2006
This movie is pretty much flawless. Acting is incredible, especially Hoffman, and so is the script. I have read In Cold Blood three times and I was waiting to see if they would show the Cutter girl's diary and sure enough they did, what I really wanted to see was if the writing was done in different colored ink and yes it was. Some movies I see do not do enough research into the book that they are taking things from. If you are a fan of the book or interested in Capote at all; this is the movie for you.

As far as biographies go, this movie shows how it should be done. It is just a period from Truman Capote's life but it was the most creative period and I think the movie really showed an authentic slice of that time.

Effective for what it was.
12 December 2004
This is not your usual movie. The dialog is sparse at best. Interesting study of a cross country trip. The visuals from the truck's windows are the best thing about this movie. Cheryl Tiegs was a great choice as one of the femmes. I wouldn't recommend taking Grandma to this movie, although I saw a couple of ladies in their seventies at the theater I saw it in. Worth a second look. Chloe Sevigny shows what a real trooper she is, I saw her in Gummo and she tends to be in oddball movies like this one and that is why I like her so much. I really wish there were more "oddball" movies out there but alas, that is not really in the mix nowadays.

This is one of Woody's best movies.
26 February 2004
I loved this movie. I think it is one of Woody's best efforts and I am surprised at some of the reviews I have read concerning it. Great story set in the thirties and Sean Penn is fantastic as the jazz guitarist. Samantha Morton is very effective as Penn's girlfriend and it proves that one doesn't have to talk to be an effective actor. This movie is hilarious but also very touching and the combination of the two makes for an entertaining hour and a half. Allen's sense of humor is right on at times and when that happens you get the kind of laughs that are rare, the kind of laugh that turns into a cry. I wish Woody would make more films like this; as far as I am concerned, the guy is still an auteur.

Most Overrated Film of All Time
11 February 2004
Sorry folks but this movie is a C movie and not an A. I can't believe that people like this movie so much. Yes I am biased, I really don't like Tim Robbins but he has made a decent movie or two but this ain't one of them. This is your basic prison movie. What can I say- it has the host of usual characters. The storyline is basic, the outcome I won't say but it is just stupid to say that this is a great movie. I didn't think it was realistic at all and anybody who falls for this crap is either delusional or needs some brains to differentiate between an Edsel and a Lamborghini. I wouldn't watch this movie again unless I was paid to do so. One viewing is enough for this predictable laugher.

Superb Movie
2 January 2004
I loved this movie from beginning to end. It is probably the best of it's kind movie that I have ever seen. Acting is superb by everyone- characters were extremely well cast. Kidman is a delight. This is a movie I will eventually have in my home library and one to watch at least once a year. Excellent.

Just saw Gummo
2 January 2004
Gummo was very good. I thought it was a documentary really. The actors didn't come off as actors at all and I am sure that some of the people used were just being themselves. I thought the movie was very funny and honest. People are actually like this in real life. The music was put in the right places- I especially liked the bike scene at the beginning when the two boys were riding down the hill- the one kid looks like Johnny Rotten at 14. The reality of the film is rather depressing but this is what a lot of America is like- the grimy scene when the two boys get milkshakes was a great slice of the crappy culture that is much of the United States and of the world. Very good film all around. Nihilistic.

Great Drunk Movie
2 January 2004
One of the best drunk movies of all time. Rourke is fantastic as the drunk. Faye Dunaway is also fantastic. Rourke really gives a great performance as Henry. My only problem with realism is in the fight scenes. Loved the portrayal of down and out side of L.A.
