few real laughs
12 January 2004
A film that sets out to make fun of the politicians should be number one at the Australian box office but this really fails- it just isn't funny. The problem lies with the huge number of main characters. It has absolutely no focus and fails to generate the laughs.

scary world of the lonely
12 January 2004
I was amazed how creepy this movie is. Robin williams the funnyman is replaced by a character who shows very little emotion and his loneliness overtakes the film to make him seem unstable.Trouble with the film lies in the weak ending.

wasted lives make for great entertainment
12 January 2004
Wasted lives lead to great entertainment. Nicholson plays a character that is anything but likeable at the beginning of the film but by the end you really care about him. He has let life pass him by but this film is so tender-reat stuff

Its got some classic humour
11 January 2004
The marketing killed this one because it was a great film with brilliant performances but it seemed like another bad comedy. However it was really entertain and David Wenham was brilliant as Spit. The courtroom scene is classic stuff.the ending is a bit weak and sentimental but still a good film.

Another not so funny film
11 January 2004
This is so bad it's beyond belief...It's yet another bad Australian comedy.how many are we going to make until we realise this type of film has had it's day. The characters have no depth and I can see why it bombed at the box office. It's time for a change of scenery.

A story that resonates
10 January 2004
Morvern Callar is fascinating in that it shows a genuinely different perspective from a young British director. Gone is Ken Loach's apologetic style of showing the lower class. This film is frightening and brilliant because it shows it how it is in a small town in Scotland. Life is pointless and there is no future-only the moment. It is a very bleak yet outstanding film

Not too much sentimentality just a good film
10 January 2004
Last Orders is a film I didn't think I would like so much. It is a gem. The story is about a group of people looking back on the death of one of their mates. But it focuses on his shortcomings and reveals something very interesting about his wife and child. Schepisi directs his one with the subtlety of his earlier films and shows a unique craft

A powerful original film
10 January 2004
It is very similar to the classic Walkabout. I saw it not long after seeing this classic film and although I liked The Tracker I thought maybe the director had copied many elements of the story and way of telling the story from Walkabout. It would have been a great film if you had never seen the film that was so closely copied. Interesting times. However see the 1960's film Walkabout for original ideas.

the big money makes a small plot film
10 January 2004
So much hype.so little excitement for the audience. This film is pure product and it'a a shame.I saw it the other night at an outdoor cinema and i know it's a few years since all the marketing hype, but it really was boring. All that money on special effects and yet it really is not exciting.
