Backstage (2016)
Cliché undone
A teen drama that manages to avoid cliché. It is done in a unique style not seen before by this reviewer. We get to know the characters, slowly, just as would happen in life. All the actors do great jobs with their roles. Their characters as well as their interactions are all very believable. Their dilemmas are typical for high school, but that can not be avoided. Still, the show does not dwell on anything unoriginal.
A unique show that manages to make something that should be worn out, talented performers at a high school, feel fresh and fun. Well worth watching. I am disappointed that Season 2 is being shown daily. It is a terrific show and deserves the once a week treatment. It does not deserve to be rushed through. I hope Disney understands what a gem this show is and gets behind it way more than they do. It is rarely on or promoted. Now they are showing an entire season in 3 weeks. This show deserves more.
Man vs. Child: Chef Showdown: Toast of the Town (2016)
Entertaining product of modern times.
With the popularity of children's shows, it is nice to see something a bit different. Like the prodigies on the show, this is a unique take on cooking competition. I love this show. I love watching young creative minds at work. I love their quick wit. I especially love Chef Cloyce's varying looks from laughter to disdain. Before computers, young adults could never accrue the knowledge the prodigies have. To watch them at work vs those with more experience is both interesting and fun. The guests range from arrogant to polite, but ultimately all show respect. I am disappointed season 2 ended so suddenly. I wanted to see and hear more from all the young adults, especially, Chef Cloyce, whose outside the box thought gives hope to not only great future food, but also in many ways for the world
