Mindhunter (2017)
Utterly brilliant series
Can't believe there's not a new series of this yet. Gripping from the off, and very realistic ish portrayal of the late seventies/early eighties serial killer 'scene'. How is Netflix not commissioning another one yet.
Each program grips the viewer, leaving you wanting to binge watch the entire series. Even the last scene leaves you on a cliff edge, wanting to watch a third series, but alas 4 years on and still no sign of that. :(
Why isn't Netflix on this? One of the few US series to really grip the viewer, perhaps even more so than breaking bad. Come on Netflix, bring this back for a well deserved 3rd series!!
Safe (2018)
Poor adaptation, questionable acting, poor direction, and unbelievable storyline
Unbelievable plot, lead investigator not know that a key piece of evidence was theirs. A murder more concerned with historical crimes than murdering people, kid in distress preferring to sleep at a next door neighbour who they barely know instead of sleeping at home, a detective who can stand death or blood, the list goes on.
Seriously how are people eating this beyond a 4 at best?
Don't waste time with this unless you like dramas with more fictional plot lines than superhero movies!
That said, I upped the score to a two as I did want to see the end and how it turns out. But there plot twist was predictable and tiresome.
Reacher (2022)
Great choice of actor, good series
Perfect fit for the role, needs a little more action fighting to fit the books but isn't far off the mark. Binge worthy series and I look forward to season 2.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Much better than the review give it credit for
Not sure what all the negative reviewers were watching but it's a much better film than I was expecting having read them. It's certainly not out of place in the MCU and links well to previous and future films. The Captain is well played by Brie, it's paced well. My only negative is it takes a while to really bite into the story (but for good reason) and ends too quickly (this maybe because I wanted more...) but certainly worth the entrance money and is a must see for anyone following the MCU saga.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Wow, just wow!
An epic film in many ways. I guess you'll need to have seen most of the MCU films of the last 10 years to completely follow the plot/story, there's action all the way through.
Many surprises to shock you, scenes that nearly left me in tears and made me laugh out loud. A proper emotion puller. Will add that whilst I've never read a comic, I could predict what the next avengers film will have in store due to the ending and lack of characters (hinted at in previous post credit scenes) which were missing from this. But my anticipation is at "cannot wait level".
The largest complement I can pay it, is that at nearly 3 hrs long, it still felt as though it was rushed and not quite as polished in flowing smoothly as say ragnarock, but I still felt It left me wanting more. Well done to everyone involved.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Marmite film?
Not quite sure what to make of the other comments here. I didn't rate the film at all, its an over the top rehash of the independence day genre - same plot but set with the 'aliens' coming from a different place and in different form...
The script was too cheesy and the acting was ott. This may be a bit hard for some but being a sci-fi I still expect some element of possibility to be part of the plot, but this has none.
For starters, if we had the ability to build these machines, why the hell would we spend millions and suffer the limiting failure that is the mild melding, without just piloting them remotely or via drone technology? We'd then be able to mass produce them and have an army instead of just 7? I actually laughed when the major (or Marshall I forget) gives his big speech.. you know then and there that he's taking the Randy Quaid character and will end up sacrificing himself.. Yeah sorry, this wasn't Hollywood's finest hour. 3/10 from me - mainly for the special effects and because it's sunny outside..
Sand Sharks (2012)
The most amazing thing about the film is I actually watched it all!
Seriously, this is quite possibly the worst film I have ever seen. Really poor B-movies from the '60s rank higher than this abomination.
I implore anyone reading this before seeing the film to instead, pop down to a DIY store, buy a can of paint. Find a wall in your home that needs some attention, paint said wall, pull up a chair and watch it dry. It's a much better use of an hour and a half! Some positive feedback on the film, there's a couple of stunning ladies cast, pity that their dialogue is written, presumably by an illiterate horse (sorry, I think that's a bit tough on horses).
The location setting is o.k. The script, plot, acting, concept, visual effects and directing though is woeful. One for the Razzies!
