Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
Best of The Frankenstein Franchise by a longshot
I must have seen this particular film at least 50 times overy lifetime. It never gets boring. Each character is played to perfection. Though most think the Monster was the star of this film, I will forever believe that it was Dr. Pretorius who stole the show. They gave the Monster a soft side, which I thought was ingenious. They showed that beneath his horrible ways, a human being existed. However you knew that Dr. Pretorius was just pure evil, a narcissistic man who went to outrageous lengths to achieve his goals, including murder to get that fresh heart. There was never a better end to a movie than this one. Karloff and his historic little speech brought tears to your eyes. Nobody played the Monster better than Karloff and this picture cemented his position as the Monster. Elsa Lanchester looked beautiful both as Mary Shelley and the Bride. This movie really is a horror movie combined with a love story and a tragedy.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
Monarch is a waste of time
I waited patiently to see this series, expecting to see something unique and different. I was hoping it would be exciting and filled with numerous scenes with monsters. Apparently I set my sights too high. Besides being a boring story with characters that are annoying, they bounce around from era to era as if they were trying to confuse the viewers. Add the fact that 95% of each episode is void of any monster. I lost interest by episode 4. I kept watching it in the background, hoping Godzilla would occasionally make an appearance or cause some chaos. I was disappointed every time I tuned in. I went to see Godzilla Minus One during this exercise in watching a horrible Godzilla venture. Thank goodness for that movie. Monarch was a waste of money, talent and my time. I gave it one star and that was generous.
Gojira -1.0 (2023)
Definitely the best Godzilla movie in the franchise
After so many Japanese attempts to making a good Godzilla film, not only did they make a good one. They made the best one. With a real story with characters that have substance, along with the meanest Godzilla ever to hit the big screen, this movie hit a grand slam. The story was really good and Godzilla? He was no longer the Japanese man in the rubber suit stomping model cars. You don't find yourself rooting for the dinosaur in this one. He's just a big, nasty monster and he's frightening. You almost wish the movie could have been longer because it was that good. You got to like the main characters. I hope there is a sequel. This one deserves it.
Hawaii Five-O: Over Fifty? Steal (1970)
The best episode of the series
I've seen this episode several times and it never gets stale. It is a wonderful change of pace for the show. Hume Cronyn plays his character perfectly. You actually root for him to succeed and for him to outsmart McGarrett. The soundtrack adds to the episode as well. It makes you wish the episode lasted 90 minutes or longer. Commercials ruin the continuity of the show. The makeup and disguises Cronyn wears is what adds to the humor in the show. It was good to see a crime show with no violence or shooting. Definitely an episode worth watching and one worthy of several sequels, not just the one. A must to watch!
The Monster (2016)
Could have been better
It started out with promise. It built up suspense. It did a good job of developing the relationship between mother and daughter. It got interesting and predictable but it was good. Where did it fail? Waiting until almost the very end to see the Monster. Why call it The Monster and not show it until the end. Using the cover of darkness to hide the Monster is growing thin. It resembles Godzilla. Also this had to be the most flammable Monster I've ever seen on screen. I questioned why anyone would get out in the pouring rain to investigate strange things like these two did. They had to see scary movies before.
The Rifleman: The Challenge (1959)
Thurl Ravencroft
Thurl Ravencroft, who sang the Jake Pardee ballad, was famous for many cartoon voices but thebone we remember him most for was the the singer in the 1966 cartoon, The Grinch. You're a mean.one Mr. Grinch
