Black Knight (2001)
Pointless rubbish!
I went from hopeful to bored then straight to exhausted and annoyed in less than 30 minutes. The story is as unoriginal as they come. Even so, a scrap of humour could have saved this train wreck, but Martin Lawrence seemed to have shown up without reading the script, did it all flatly in one take and collected his money. The 'writing' was atrocious and non-sensical and the jokes were older than Moses. I was almost too embarrassed to write a review because it would be evidence that I had the poor judgement to watch this worthless crap in the first place. In my defense, I was taken on a date to see this (though I was mildly supportive of the movie choice at the time), and promptly dumped him afterwards. Awful!
Psycho (1960)
Best horror movie ever... and it truly stands the test of time
The absolutely exquisite use of lighting, direction and musical score drive you to the point where it is almost unbearable to look at the screen. You feel so uneasy and sick to your stomach, because your mind is pushed to the point where you just can't take it anymore. The eyes, the fly, the piercing music...
All the money, gore and cheesy special effects used in today's 'horror movies' (it's been a while since I have actually seen a modern film worthy of being called a horror movie) will never be able to hold a candle to this classic. It works because it's simple and plausible. That feeling in your gut when you see a flicker of something unsettling in someone's eyes, but you ignore it. That sound in the night that you convince yourself you didn't hear. That movement in the shadows that you couldn't possibly have seen...right up until it's too late for you put all those pieces together. What could be more horrifying than that? The last time I saw this film was 15 years ago. I watched it last night and still couldn't get to sleep.
Transformers (2007)
Absolutely excellent!!!!!!!
When I saw the first trailer which was only a few seconds long, something deep in my soul stirred. An excitement gathered to the point that I almost burst with anticipation......and I was NOT disappointed.
The movie was absolutely fantastic! By far, the best sci-fi-meets-action film I have EVER seen. 5 minutes into it I already knew I was going to see it at least 2 more times.
Lead character was funny and easy to relate to. It was like being a kid sitting in front of the TV again except now it is as awesome as it should be when you imagined them being real. I will see this again...and so will you!!!!!! Now I'm just waiting for the Thundercats movie!!!!
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Ahem...I don't think so sweetheart!
Unlike Spiderman 2, this third installment had a threadbare storyline which they successfully distracted us from, through their pretty incredible special effects.
It was quite dull and pointless as evidenced by the film's need to have Peter Parker dance like a moron, hold every intense look for about 10 seconds too long and have him dressed like soccer mum who'd been crying all week.
Very gauche, and just barely worth the price of admission.
The highlight for me was the waiter in the restaurant. Man, I hope this is not the best summer has to offer, otherwise I'll just be inside playing the video game versions! (Come on Pirates, Potter and Transformers - don't let me down)
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
Hilarious, poignant and one of the best movies I've seen in a while!
I felt completely refreshed when I left the cinema, having seen this wonderful film. A family barely making it and full of beautifully sweet and obscenely funny characters pull together for their youngest family member. Greg Kinnear really made you want to slap his character at first, and he played his role to a T. Steve Carrell continues to impress me with his comedic style, and his character's depiction was one of my favourites. Great writing and fabulous fodder for cinematic T-shirts. The mother's character is the glue that miraculously keeps all the crazy together and running smoothly. The character Olive is a fine example to pageant contestants everywhere, that you can be yourself and be proud of your accomplishments even if it is to everyone else's horror! The son's character has a heartbreaking scene with his sister that has to be my favourite in this film.Grandpa's character was uncensored but his passion for lewdness is equal in his passion for supporting his family. A must-see, quality film for the hopeful and and the hopeless!
All About You (2001)
Crap
Now I've seen some bad movies in my time, but anyone with a positive comment about this rubbish must be related to someone from the cast or crew.
The script is a disgrace to filmaking, the directing was shabby and amateurish, and the acting by the lead characters was so wooden that anyone else on the screen with a shred of talent looked as terrible as they did. The smarmy football player was the best actor in the bunch, and believe me, that aint saying much!
I'm trying to spare you the shame of admitting that you saw this film. Don't waste your life watching this. It's absolute crap.
