The Nanny (1993)
Both did and didn't age well
Watched it for the first time in 2023. It's very weird to watch hints to low key DV and the glorification of the ditsy clueless marriage desperate woman.
That being said, the first 3 seasons are brilliant. The comedy is really high quality and the characters and plots are addictive. The issues are still relevant and relatable.
Something goes wrong from the 4th season on, the comedy starts lacking, some jokes get old and Fran's relationship drama is so cringe it's painful to watch.
Other notable pluses: her outfits are iconic and lovely. The dynamic between the characters in the first 3 seasons is heartwarming.
Overall mixed feelings on this one.
Pride and Prejudice (1995)
No longer nice
This might have been nice when it came out but if you're watching this in 2023 and forward I think it doesn't do any favors to the book, although it's probably the version that follows the book moat accurately.
The movie setup comes off as unrealistic but most importantly the characters and their interactions come off as sterile.
The 2005 version does a far better job at presenting this wonderful and timeless love story to a younger audience, even if it doesn't follow the book exactly. I'd much rather accept small deviations from the book if it means young people get to experience the essence of the story, so brilliantly captured by Austen. This version will not achieve that, mostly on account of keeping the old language and sticking to the complete lack of visible emotions, as modern audiences are too much estranged from this manner of living.
And it doesn't stick to the book as well as you'd think, for example the actors look much older than they're supposed to be and it's very confusing.
