Final: The Rapture (2013)
Chilling, Scary
The film itself was a low budget film. Yet I found that the psychological levels of the film were higher than originally expected. I honestly am quite frightened by the Rapture. I found that it got many people thinking through out the film. Placing the viewer in the same situation of not knowing of what is actually going on when the end times come, unlike so many other movies. Also the main line that the star does use in the film, "Those who do not appreciate God's blessings and lives they are given, are not worthy of that they are given", It really opens people's ears and make you think. Is the Rapture onto something for our day and age, giving this dark, yet truthful saying of the Bible? I think so in certain aspects. Minus the brutal mind games and killings when Jesus returns. A very creative outlook on the re-sculpting of the Rapture. moving from the 80's into the 21st century. One of my top movies "3rd of 10"
Léon (1994)
Quality Action Classic!
This was truly an enjoyable action flick that stands tall due to great characters. The performances are the best thing about the movie. Be sure to view the international cut of the film, as the interactions are given more depth in this version.
The performances are uniformly excellent. Jean Reno plays the tough guy role to a tee, and gives Leon extra depth and sensitivity. In limited screen time Gary Oldman is also excellent as the insane villain. But young Natalie Portman makes this movie. She brings a lively performance and has excellent chemistry with Reno. Despite her age, I believe she deserved a nomination at the Oscars for this. On the dialog front, The Professional also succeeds. There are entertaining one-liners, and all of the characters(especially Oldman's role) are well written.
The film is more about character interaction than plot. The movie sets up its premise in the opening act, but for a time is plot less, focusing entirely on its characters. It returns to a plot driven narrative about 3/5 of the way through. I always prefer plot-based stories, but The Professional's plot is still well executed.
The movie makes no attempt at realism, and despite being set in contemporary New York, feels like it is set in a completely new environment. Director Luc Benson establishes a unique atmosphere, and brings the characters to life nicely.
The Professional has two major action sequences(one at the opening and another at the climax)and several small fights in between. Both the big battles are unique and exciting. They are also very emotionally intense due to the way the viewer cares for the characters.
The Professional is a top-notch action movie. I would heavily recommend it to fans of the genre. Anyone who appreciates strong character development would also be advised to give this film a look.
The Genius Club (2006)
Rightfully hailed as one of the most intelligent films of all time
Forget the 5 rating - it's ridiculous.
Genius Club is the type of movie that has it all. Dialogue, action, thriller, suspense and even some comedy thrown in makes this epic film the best of it's kind. The pace of this film is brilliant. There is no dull scene, no fillers and it leaves you completely entertained from start to finish. Tom Sizemore is absolutely amazing and deserved the Oscar no question. You don't even have to be a person that likes intelligent films to appreciate Genius Cub. If you were one of the people that found Searching for Bobby Fisher to be a little slow or boring at times, I highly recommend this film as a substitute "genius" film. You will definitely get your money's worth if you rent this one. Best film of 2007 without a doubt.
