Cocaine Bear (2023)

Not nearly as good as it could have been
26 March 2023
This movie relied pretty heavily on a number of the characters being pretty stupid. Too many of the characters were stupid to make sense. I get that this is based on a true story...but still, I have a hard time believing that this many people could be THIS stupid and survive.

Maybe they just tried to focus on too many people in the story? There were simply too many people highlighted to really care about.

The jokes started out great...but stopped being funny about halfway through the movie. It seemed like the same style of joke over and over and over again.

I think they could have done a lot better. By the time the movie ended I was bored.

Loved it until THE MESSAGE took over the story...
8 March 2023
Started out as an entertaining thriller....you start out wondering if she's being chased by a crazy dude, or a monster... All is going swimmingly, if not a bit gross, for a good part of the film.

Here's my biggest issue with this movie...what woman goes out for any kind of dinner or evening event without more supplies than she could possibly need? I can't be the only woman who prefers to have at least twice what I would need available to me....it's not like it hit her after she left...she knew it was that time before she left. She had time to get supplies.

I don't want to include any spoilers here, so I'm going to try to be as vague as possible. At some point, it becomes quite clear that this movie has a message. That message is that men are THE problem. Men are bad. Men cause all evil. Men have been keeping women down for all of history.

She ultimately proves that she is smarter than the devil/monster guy, possibly stronger, as she defeats him and goes home covered in blood and completely ignoring all of her wounds.

There were other ladies...why didn't they give her medical treatment or make her get it?

Why didn't she keep the dog with her?

I was willing to ignore her stupidly not taking any period supplies with her on her dinner/date/thing.... I was honestly LOVING the movie until the "men bad" message slapped me in the face. Then all enthusiasm I had for the film vanished. I only finished it because I figured I had already started it and didn't have anything better to do.

Utterly boring and a complete waste of time
17 October 2022
So glad I didn't see Halloween Ends in the theatre...I would have fallen asleep. It was BORING and pointless. The character "development" made zero sense. Took me probably 4 hours to get through at home because I had to keep pausing out of sheer boredom! Played about half the "movie" at 1.5 speed and it still felt slow!

Nothing of any real value or substance happens in about the entire first hour of the film. Barely any deaths in the whole movie...which made no sense because that's kinda the point of the movies right?

The relationship breakdown between Laurie and her granddaughter didn't make sense either...and neither did the now bland granddaughter's behavior or motivations. She was so boring and made so little sense that I forgot her name and can't for the life of me be bothered to even look it up.

The other guy really served no purpose for the story other than to give Michael time to nap I guess?

I wish I had never watched this crap.

Complete waste of time, not remotely enjoyable.

Warning: Spoilers
For the first time ever...I'm writing a movie review while I watch the movie.

First thing I noticed was Tank Girl's voice. I was initially excited by this...until she said something about Covid 19 being THE super scary virus that killed everyone. They really shouldn't have used a real virus. Either way = bad. If covid had ended up being this bad, no one would be left to watch it. With it not being this bad, it reduces ability to suspend disbelief and distracts from the point of the story.

Next we encounter the chick that is supposedly immune and her brother. He promptly sacrifices himself for her in the most meaningless way. The people chasing her want her alive...and aren't allowed to shoot her. So, instead of helping her and basically using her as a shield (since they won't shoot her)...he tells her to leave him and then dies. Now...she's alone. The only thing he did was make things harder for her now. He didn't actually save her. He put her in more risk than she was in before.

The dialog is...so over the top. I don't know if I'll be able to finish this.

The flashbacks are really annoying. I feel like they are supposed to help us understand the character....but they just make me dislike him.

I've set my computer to play this movie at a faster speed to try to make it easier for me to get through this. Things honestly just kept getting worse. The idea that zero people are immune doesn't make logical sense, and neither does any part of John Malkovich's character or motivations.

Even my MMJ card couldn't make this movie fun!

Really disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
The pacing for this movie really did not work for me at all. It began to feel like the movie was never going to end, and when it finally did I was pretty annoyed by the way blame was placed.

The musical aspect wasn't the problem...however I actually didn't realize this was going to be a musical going in...I'm not the most connected person...but most of the songs were pretty good.

*Spoilers from here on.

My largest problem with this movie was the lack of logic with the ending. I'm not sure Evan Hansen started out as a compulsive liar. In the beginning when the parents came to give him the letter he tried multiple times to tell them that their son didn't write it. They wouldn't accept his answer.

So, a young guy with massive anxiety problems with a secret suicide attempt under his belt is now being told by adults that his reality is wrong. He realizes that it doesn't matter what he says to them...they won't believe him and they even NEED to believe what they are saying.

Then he plans to tell them the truth at dinner but they just keep pushing him to tell them about the "friendship" with their son. Yes, I get that people think he should have had the internal fortitude to crush these people and take away the one thing they were clinging onto for hope...but Evan obviously didn't have that strength.

Then, things got away from him. He got carried away trying to make them happy and lost himself. Of course it was wrong for him to get so carried away even with them pushing...but he only started lying because he didn't feel like he had another choice.

When things come out everyone blames him for the lies...but no one even acknowledges the fact that he was pressured into it very heavily in the beginning.

I have to compare it to some real life situations that women end up in every day. They go out with a guy and that guy wants sex...she says no, so he keeps pushing until she gives in. Since we are now able as a people to see that what happened to her was non consensual because she clearly didn't actually want it...how can we also not see that he was also forced into lying?

He isn't the good guy...but he isn't the bad guy either. He's just a kid with his own problems.

Way too obvious...
4 February 2021
I shouldn't know exactly what is going to happen within 5 minutes of the episode starting. They made no efforts to be unique in any way. No efforts to have any kind of big reveal. It was all just SO obvious and predictable.

Complete waste of time and ruined any hope of me watching the series again.

It started out like a boring version of Equilibrium...
2 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
So, when I started watching this movie I immediately felt like I was watching a super slow and action free version of Equilibrium. The similarities in design of everything are staggering. Once I was able to move beyond that and things started to slowly happen in the film I was able to see the different world that this film was about. This film is a love story and there really isn't anything sci-fi about it. I was fascinated by how they remove emotions in this world, and the fact that it also apparently removes pain. The idea of no pain on top of no emotion seems a little overkill to me. Also dangerous as heck...what if someone falls and injures their back? How are they going to know exactly how bad their injury is? As Silas and Nia delve into their relationship and feelings I knew they were ultimately going to have sex. Several of the events were predictable once I understood the formula of the movie I knew how it was going to end. Once they had sex I knew she would become pregnant...I knew they would come up with a "cure" for SOS...I knew that some disaster would separate them and make them feel hopeless...and that they would ultimately find each other again and head out of the collective.

That being said, it was still an enjoyable movie and one of Kristen Stewart's better performances, so I have to give it points there. The real star though is the guy that played Silas. I want to see more from him.
