August Rush (2007)
The movie I recommend as a great movie easy to feel satisfied and wonderful!
You don't have to have to have a similar hard to imagine experience in life like this movie depict, and like what I've experienced. Every movie requires you to suspend your perception and 'get into' the movie on the screen. It's easy to get involved with the characters and the movie plot from the very beginning. Great music throughout, and really great acting too. The people I saw the movie with were very pleased to see this movie and very movies. Too bad for the professional movie critics! They were there to do a job being critical and not seeing it like those who went to enjoy a good movie. The general public love it!!! So when I ask from somebody about a good movie I always say August Rush is a winner!!
Beyond the Mirage: The Future of Water in the West (2016)
This is a soft fluffy version of the giant monster in the room that is this planet
Whiskey is for drinking, water is for fighting over - Mark Twain. Mark Twain had it right then, and it's getting more like that all the time. But this documentary presents all the smart way to alleviate the major problem of not being able to create more water such a conservation, desalination
plants, better technology for those plants that turn seawater into potable/drinkable water, better agricultural water distribution, reusing rain runoff from everywhere (including roofs) which is most popular around the world, and treating waste-water to be excellent, pure potable/drinking water. Many hundred of town hall events in Orange Co. CA. Of course the politics and economics was quickly covered too, which was, is and will be the crux of it all, that and along with our attachments and belief that essentially created the problem/opportunity in the 1st place! And the problem was, as usual, seen as a lack of rain - drought. Yep, bright minds in denial. All that just pushes the problem down the road a little bit. We essentially have a love affair with the status quo, with quantity vs. quality, with a death wish that we're more than happy to meet in our future. And we think our security is in 'numbers', and ever growing population, our security from what being overtaken by hordes of Chinese, Russians, Asians, or what, Hispanics? Ultimate solutions just aren't politically correct, and who wants to do what the Chinese did - deal with it, zero population growth. But they had it back-asswards with an imbalance of too many boy babies/men compared to girl babies/women. But at least that worked. So the documentary was bitter sweet, but it did bring some of the issue into focus, but only the scientific, left-brain/rational, outer surface reactions. But that only makes the significance of the upcoming collapse bigger and bigger. How typical and stuck in the box kind of thinking. So boring, you could just go to sleep and 'pity the fool(s). Anyone for going to Mars?
Lonely Planet (1994)
Might that be like I don't like Jane's because my 1st girlfriend was a Jane?
"Might that be like I don't like Jane's because my 1st girlfriend was a Jane?"
I love the Globe Trekker show, except for one thing. They ONLY lasted 17 years & I want more! Most all episodes were great but can't speak for ALL of them, so I only gave the show a TEN!!! I liked it in part because it had a different flare to it...coming from the U.K. Nice accents, good music, interesting locations & people, great attitude towards everything. But about that woman's ego mentioned, I don't now about that, besides nobody always has a great day. I really liked all the foreign location & their take here of the U.S.
Great that it wasn't a rich person's tourist viewpoint of the places to consume but rather about the locals they met & everything I'd like to know.
Does anyone know if I can see the other episodes somewhere online?
Barton Fink (1991)
Tedious, meaningless wast of time, odious with distasteful characters
Great, a Coen brothers' film with great reviews!!! The group of us watching it agreed it really is tedious & stretched out way too long. Wasn't realistic, nor NOT funny. Had nothing but strange, pathetic & obnoxious characters. Didn't have redeeming value, and was grizzly, bizarre. In short it was meaningless & tedious. And look who likes it. Who are these people??? Lost, alienated, stuck in their head & adversarial? Not for me to judge. And maybe it's just a sick hangup, a lesson that needed purging from from the past from a place of adversarial alienation, stuck in the head? A horrid film, a waste of time that some will need to excrete from their minds (or whatever).
Across the Universe (2007)
So, what's the purpose of a movie?
To enjoy or not enjoy? To be critical? I feel for those in the minority who won't & can't have a good time with this movie. It's as if they'd rather be stuck in "hell" - there own (if there were such a place). I felt very moved emotionally by this film, & wonder if it will be like the Wizard of Oz where it eventually becomes a major classic. The singing was awesome - every song, with such sincerity & some with close-ups as they were we being sung. The background was so great. All the connections to the Beatles, the 60's, & the challenges of that day are so well expressed in a creative way. I loved the special effects! I hope they get all sorts of awards, etc. Truly amazing video display - psychedelic. Some people just hate life as it is now, & it all came about starting in the 60's for some, but was embraced by the others in the 70's. Nope, it's not Donna Reed (who? or those shows in the 50's. Not Lawerence Welk or Grand Ole Operie. I think you have to have liked being young, think/feel like your're young, be tolerant, like young people, & essentially know who you are & not just think of yourself as defined by what you do (someday you won't be able to do anything at all on this planet). I don't support drugs, just their legalization (for some). But if this technology was available back then & this movie came out then, I think a lot of people would want to get into the drug world (mushrooms?). All 4 Beatles or their representatives gave this movie a thumbs up! Cool! Could it be that those who poohed-poohed it did so because they are anti-drugs & pro-war. That's not "bad", just "in the box". Nothing's wrong with that - being/living in the last century or previous. I love the Pransters' bus ride through the country. It was SO gloriously colorful, so Renaisance, & one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen! See this movie, but with no expectation, just abundant expectancy & openness (to fun, entertainment, joy, & being pleased - or is that a s.i.n?). It's kind of a Forrest Gump type of movie, just a different angle. And they're both "me"! The way to see this movie is "high", but just not on drugs - duh. High on life.
The Color of Friendship (2000)
A most wonderful surprise, just like what the "user ratings" reported.
Glad I check out this site for good movies! I had SO many to choose from tonight, but after seeing all the "user ratings" it was obvious which one would be a good one. I suspend objectivity to a degree to get into watching any movie, or else I'd merely be seeing a flickering lit screen. But I thought this movie did very well, even if the insensitivity of the Dellum was atrocious. But others were just as myopic & self-absorbed in their own unconscious & asleep ego. (Yes, that's redundant.) Although I thought for the message sake that the Dellum family in real life was not like that portrayed. Funny how they were proud to be fighting racism & apartheid, but were SO insensitive & racists (like we all can be & are at times, depending on how you define racism). It's good to know who you are & what type (?) of people you resonate with. As it turns out only 5% of the users voted this movie to be a 1,2, or 3. Looks like a chunk of the brain got removed along with a heart bypass. Pity, to have lost your humanity & have no heart. How else could this be explained? I found this movie to be very moving, honest & real. And it's not just for kids. Acting's very good too. This movie sheds light & opens the heart. What do you want for 2 hours of your life? Special effects? Violence? A "good" guy vs. "bad" guy "moral"? How quaint, gullible & escapist can that be, or maybe not. Anyway, if you're alive with a heart & soul, then this ones for you. Anyway, the race war is being won here in the U.S. so far, at least until overpopulating, immigration, & economic degradation raises up it little ugly head. (This is an easy topic to address, but try the war between the sexes (genders). Good luck!)
The Wild Angels (1966)
BadAss movie, like your worst nightmare.
This is a movie to stay away from, not like anything to come after it. There, does that make you want to see it? You lose. God-awful violent, but we're all numb to that, at least in the movies. No, this is totally negative, nihilistic, anti-life, anti-social. Guess that's why it got made, to be even more terrible than the reality. I used to live where they filmed this in Mecca, & started riding in 65, but gave it up in like 2000. And that place was the toughest place you could hope to see, & NOW it's ALL Mexicans happily playing baseball in 115 degree-like weather. Like I said, one big bring-down, a bummer, just crazy hate & alienation. Confused madness.
The Ten Commandments (2005)
This is no "Jesus of Nazareth" movie!
For a really wonderful movie, you could also try seeing the movie about Saint Francis of Assisi - good for any audience. Best thing I liked about this movie was the Mexico landscape, & it gets the movie up to a 2. I was surprised that these actors didn't have terrible sunburn, they were so were not desert dwellers. And Moses is said to have a speakING impediment, but certainly not here. Even the "miracle" scenes were contrived & un-believable. And what's the point if you can belief anything in a TV story? Talk about dumbing down, I thought this Hallmark-made movie was pathetic, & I can see why others hate Hollywood. I don't, just some of these corporate profit grubbers. You don't have to be any kind of religious to benefit from "Jesus of Nazareth", but for this waste of celluloid you need to be bored, with nothing to do, dumbed-down & religious. And for a real movie experience, try "Short Cut to Nirvana", a very highly rated film.
The Desperate Trail (1994)
Conagher, with Sam Elliot, is much better
Conagher, with Sam Elliot, is much better. Don't know if I've ever seen such phony, bogus gunfights. Everybody shoots everything they can to supposedly kill each other, but only one person seeming dies from it. But this is a "politically correct" tale of a woman who murders her man. Making bad choices of men is not new, is it? The cinematography & costumes including some cool hats are nice, so much so you might want to put on a slicker & be tough with a gun or two. Ha! DejaVu, all over again? This movie is not for the cerebrally gifted, more for those, including feminist apologists, holding on to the past/their "stuff", like possibly blame, the belief in violence, revenge, glorifying the "good old days".
Without Her Consent (1990)
Enjoyable (if not simplistic & essentially manipulative)
I would have liked something more in-depth about the alleged rapist, so that we could see a little bit better how such a thing comes about. Does the "good guys" vs the "evil_doers" get a little old & shallow to you too? Although, guess I just like justice prevailing. A well done movie, if not predictable & obvious how it would turn out. After all, we do live in a (new?) politically correct era. Now that we "know" that things are suppose to be getting better, I guess we can rest assured & go asleep/get numb, & just have another beer. Why not a movie about the rapist background, history, abuse, & the society he came from? Too radical? Guess we have to expect corporate media to just be in the business to make money playing on our sympathies & our (unconscious) ego's identifications. It like a culture war & war against real people, & ultimately YOU are the target. At least somebody (something) is get enriched, but it isn't you/us.
Taking Care of Business (1990)
Underrated & continuously funny. See it. Enjoy it! Not for the humorless workaholic?
Be ready to laugh! Very well done by everyone in front of the camera & behind it. Interesting social implications & it a comedy. Grodin & Belushi are casted perfectly & are a great counterpoint to each other. Unfortunately comedies don't get their deserved respect. The snobby professional critics are too wrapped up to even pay much attention to such a movie, but I found it worthy & will talk it up as a fun-packed delight. Is that so bad? Certainly not! It was fun to see so many actors & actresses that I recognized & appreciate. Movie-making is an act of suspended belief, so any film does not need to be totally believable or factual. But any story needs to be entertaining, & in this the film delivers.
