Us (2019)
After reading so many bad reviews...
.... I have to offer my oppinion.
This is not get out. It is not even the same genre. If you go expecting get out you will be dissappointed.
If you go expecting a satirical horrifying well acted original story you will get just what you wanted and more. Anyone saying this made no sense obviously didnt pay attention. It made perfect sense. Is it possible? No. Bit neither is jurrassic park. What you needed to be explained was, and some tjings are left for you to decide/imagine - thats what great films do.
Honestly, in my humble oppinion this film is great. Some of the scenes are so creepy. Some of the plot points only make sense once the ending is revealed. The music is amazing and so well used with great juxtoposition. Plus the actors are great! You forget that both characters are the same actor for the mum and the kids (the dad not so much he was a bit of a baffoon lol.)
Watch it with an open mind and enjoy it for what it is and thank me later.
Lovely Molly (2011)
Not so Lovely
I really don't mind a slow starting horror film that takes some time to build up suspense - if it makes it worth your effort. Lovely Molly does not. I should start with the positives - the cinematography is okay, and the acting wasn't terrible (nor was it good mind)and I actually liked the first 45 mins or so. Now to the bad...
For a start the title confuses me, I don't think anyone refers to her as lovely in the entire film. It wouldn't be hard to fit that in, but that isn't that important. What is important is an ending, too many people are putting out films with beginnings, middles and scary music but NO ENDING. There are so many unanswered questions... Why does it happen? Is her dad there? What did he do to them when they were young? Abuse? Whats with the horse heads? Or the weird tree man at the end? Why biting? Is it all in her head? Why would a priest go down on her.... so strange. It is really infuriating that there is not even a hint of an answer to these questions. If you literally can't think of a single thing to do with your time than watch an uninteresting, unconvincing, open-ended weird horror (using the term in its loosest possible way) then I would grab the popcorn and get cracking. Other than that - don't bother watching it.
Stake Land (2010)
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.
If you are wondering if you should watch this, wonder no more...
Everything in this film just works, all of the characters are multi- dimensional and just gel so well. The way this film taps into human nature, its fantastically psychological for a vampire flick. The acting is tremendous. There are some genuine frights, the right amount of gore and oh the suspense.... I thought I would die with the suspense. If it sounds like I am gushing, I am. I love most of the characters, but I especially love 'Sister' - she brings a much needed sense of hope and believe into the film.
Post apocalyptic wonderment.
Watch it. Watch it NOW!!
