Gargantua (1998)
Gargantuan Movie!
I love Adam Baldwin, so of course I've watched this many times. The story was cool, even touching in places, so what if the effects were subpar? Are they any better today on SyFy channel movies? Not on your life. And the stories and acting today are beyond dismal. In this I could tell Emile Hirsch was going to be a great actor and the entire cast here was competent and believable.
Typewriter (2019)
NOT Stranger Things
I don't know where everyone thinks this is an "Indian Stranger Things." When the two storylines aren't even remotely alike. I found it very binge worthy but then it ended abruptly with Serious loose ends, almost no hope, and a literal cliffhanger. There needs to be a 2nd season. But it'll be hard to kick off from where it ended when all those kids are 2 years older. What happened to The real Jenny? Did Peter kill his debtees? (I'd say so) and who's going to find that typewriter all the way down there? Sam's father just left the Burning VW And the Maths teacher down there all night? No one checked to make sure things were really destroyed and the guy was dead? No police came at all? Really intriguing story marred by a stuffed unfinished ending.
Flight 666 (2018)
Unique scares
I watched this for Paul Logan and that definitely didn't disappoint! Just give your mind a rest and watch for the few jump scares. Lots of craziness on this flight. I've never seen a concept like it, not the plane disaster scenario, but the haunted plane idea. A few well placed red herrings. However, I wondered about all the passengers in coach who had zero idea what was going on as the plane flipped and plummeted all over. They were probably still wondering when dinner was
Being served and they didn't get to see the phantoms.
Ai Fai.. Thank You Love You (2014)
Too many butt jokes.
I don't mind the romantic tropes and cliches. That's expected. I enjoyed the lead actors in their roles. I was a bit confused why she suddenly dropped the rich guy? Did she realize she was a rebound or is she really that shallow she didn't like him serenading her? I'd probably have to rewatch that boat scene to understand. I guess she didn't want to be treated like a princess.
Some very funny bits, and others, like the crude butt jokes, went on far too long. My biggest complaint? We had to endure all that crass juvenile "comedy" and sexual innuendoes peppered throughout, but we can't even see our lead couple share a kiss? I almost felt like I wasted 2 hours.
4 inyong shiktak (2003)
Catch up on some Zzzzz's before watching
More psychological drama than horror. Violently tragic events in the past and present happen around the dysfunctional main protagonists and they see a few ghostly visions. Jun Ji Hyun gives a great performance, but she whispers every line. The male lead character, though he has good crying scenes, is boring, and his fiancee was so bland I was glad when she took off. It took me 2 days to finish this because i kept falling asleep. I'm an avid fan of Korean and other foreign entertainment, so reading subtitles are never the issue with concentration. Despite it trying to achieve some depth and symbolism, it was mostly a snoozer down to the end.
Thank You (2007)
Break out the Hankies
I saw this drama a few years ago when I first discovered the magic of Kdrama and the allure of the fantastic actor Jang Hyuk. This drama is marvelous. Top notch performances by the entire cast, and you will fall in love with little Bom, the child inflicted with HIV. The last episode added some unnecessary scene about the grandfather that felt out of place, but that shouldn't deter you from watching. It's hard for me to do a rewatch, between the sad, sweet music, and how Bom and her mother were made to be outcasts for a time, I cried my eyes out over and over. Make sure you watch with hankies and tissues.
Anjaan: Special Crimes Unit (2018)
Very Spooky
For most episodes, keep the nightlight on! (Though daylight doesn't mean anyone would be saved with this creepy drama!) Mostly chills, some cheese & rushed make-up, but an all around exciting and well-produced show & a frightening soundtrack. I was reminded of shows like X-Files and Friday the 13th: The Series. The leads were magnificent. Perfect chemistry & team. I hope there's a 2nd season.
Raccoon Valley (2018)
Minimalist Zombie Outbreak
A minimalist film. Atmospheric, tense at the right beats, but ultimately no danger. These infected people look like terrifying Kabuki zombies but they don't do anything but stare and shuffle around. The lead actress kind of makes deaf people look dumb. Seems like the character was battling depression and had lost her hearing in an accident which flashed on her slide projector.
But really, She's the only danger here! She has a houseful of everything she needs. There's no real threat, so she had plenty of time to pack up. She doesn't check the car gas level before she leaves, brings barely anything with her, and then has to break into someone else's home/barn scrounging for gas instead of heading straight for a gas station. Because the owner's infected and trying to stop an intruder on HIS property she kills him. All for nothing too. And Seemingly without a care in the world because she only has one expression through the entire film.
I give it this, it's a good study in what you can do with a $175.00 film. All that money must've went to makeup and catering.
