Going the Distance (2010)
A worthy effort ruined by writing and vulgarity.
I like Drew Barrymore. I like Justin Long. I did NOT like this movie. From the trailer I was expecting a "sweet" romantic comedy. That was not what i got. From start to finish, you get extremely vulgar writing. "F" words galore. You get drunk, stoned, and casual sex all in the same night. That doesn't spell love story to me. I don't consider myself prudish but i was totally turned off by this. The phone sex/masturbation scene was very disturbing and just went on and on. The other reviews on Amazon that seem to like it just remind me that filmmakers are targeting the "40 Year Old Virgin" crowd. Lots of filth and lack of story. It's not for guys, it's not for girls. Avoid. Let's let Hollywood know that they need to get some actual writers instead of the drivel that seems to be popular now-a-days.
Color of the Cross (2006)
A story of a black man
I truly feel bad for the cast/crew that was involved in making this picture. What could have been a wonderfully told legitimate story of Jesus's life turned out to be just a story of a black man. Due to poor writing/directing, the main focus of the movie was that the Romans were after a black Jew. The story of Jesus is just an afterthought. With things like Mary being turned away from the Inn because she was black, and lines by the centurion "you're not black enough" its not hard not to see how poorly this was put together. The acting wasn't too bad, but many of the accents were poor. It sounded like some of them were French and Scottish, lol. The outdoor sets looked like leftovers from a Xena shoot, but were believable. Some of the indoor sets looked like someone's house with sheets draped on the walls. Not professional at all. I can't recommend this to anyone.
Oh, and whats with the "black Jew" having what looked like an acid trip while praying in the garden. His eyes went all wild, he saw 3 moons in the sky, and started thrashing around throwing grass on himself. Bizarre.
The Descent (2005)
One of my favorite horror movies of all time
I give this a 10, as i have not seen a good horror movie in a long time, and was very surprised by this. I saw it advertised as "from the producers of Saw, and Hostel". (Please don't put this excellent movie in the same category as those. Saw was decent, but Hostel was trash. Don't judge it from the advertisements) The director Neil Marshall's last movie Dog Soldiers was horrible, so i wasn't expecting much from this one. This is one of those movies that you need to be giving your full attention while having the lights out. The acting is great, the story is great, and the make up effects are outstanding. If you are a huge horror fan as i am, then i urge you to go see this at the theater. Take your girlfriends too! (they will scream, and jump into your lap ) ;-) Klovess Oh, and Neil Marshall, how about a Director's Cut with some added cleavage?
Superman Returns (2006)
Absolute masterpiece of a movie!
This movie is an absolute masterpiece. I was astounded by Brian Singer's vision. Every scene seemed to be well thought out, and well portrayed. This is as close to perfect as a Superman comic fan could ask for. Forget the few that claim that Lois had too much of a roll, or that there was too much romance. Those are the people who want to be bombarded with special effects the entire time, and not have any character development. Every single character was right on the money. I was hesitant to like Brandon Routh, but he inspired me as Supes, and was just as bumbling as Reeve when he was Clark. Parker Posey was ideal as the lovely assistant to Lex. She was hysterical, and dull witted, yet caring in the end. Kevin Spacey was great as Lex. I liked the idea of getting his $$ from the widow. He was diabolical, and brilliant. Jimmy Olsen had a small part, but he was eager and annoying. Perry wasn't expanded on too much, but I enjoyed his performance as well. The one and ONLY thing that i thought was a bit lacking was interaction between Supes, and Lex. They didn't even meet up until the end. That would have bumped it up to a 10 for me. The story was awesome, and the effects were top notch. As a superman comic fan for 20 years, i applaud you Brian Singer ( and all ) for bringing us this wonderful film!
Serenity (2005)
One of the best movies I've ever seen!
The title says it all. I didn't watch Firefly when it was on network TV. I was introduced to it later, and supported it by purchasing the DVD set. I immediately got sucked into the story. The writing was fantastic, and the characters just grew on you at the first episode. The Serenity movie is a complete standalone from the series. Joss Whedon (the director) grabs your face, and holds it at the screen for the entirety of the film. Its action, its drama, its comedy. Its magnificent! If you're a fan of Sci-Fi, go see it. If you're a fan of westerns, go see it. If you're a fan of comedy, go see it. If you're a fan of movies at all, go see this movie. I guarantee, you will not be disappointed with this one.

War of the Worlds (2005)
Did anyone even screen this movie?
Did anyone even screen this movie? Because if they did, they should have had some comments for Stephen Spielberg. I knew it was a disaster movie, but didn't think the movie was going to be a disaster. I was really looking forward to this one, and was highly disappointed. *SPOILERS* - Tom Cruise wasn't nice to his kids at the beginning. I thought that events would mold him into a great dad by the end of the movie. No, i didn't like him any more at the end, than the beginning. Where was the ingenious plan by the human race that brought down the aliens? Oh, there wasn't any. They just started "acting erratically" and then we could shoot them. That was totally lame. There was no dramatic conclusion, no resolution, nothing except a feeling of being ripped off at having sat through that movie for no point at all. Dakota Fanning was awesome. I liked the "cameo" by Tim Robbins. Oh, yeah, and the effects were great. If you like effects with no storyline, or character development, then this one is for you. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
The Prince & Me (2004)
Part Princess Diaries, Part Son in Law...See if you agree.
I ran across this review, and it hit the nail on the head. I thought I would share it with you: The movie is a cross between Princess Diaries, and Son in Law. I was half expecting to see Pauley Shore in the group of people racing lawnmowers. The guy really came off as a jerk, but the director tried hard to get you to like him then. It almost worked, then i remembered....he came to America to find topless college girls!! Hello??! The guys a jerk. The audience isn't stupid, we can remember scenes from the beginning of the movie. Its a decent movie thats worth watching just to see Julia Stiles.
You might also want to throw in a little bit of "Chasing Liberty", and you've got it! LOL
