A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)
A Million Ways to get bored at the movies
When the credits rolled down, I only could think: How could they release this movie? What movie company was willing to spend money on this script? And why couldn't they make something better? This movie was terrible..!
I like simplistic humor. Wayne's World or the Naked Gun series, I love those movies. But the jokes in this movie where simply not funny and where missing refinement and edginess. I will give an example: Sara Silverman has the role of a hooker and after work she still has a shot of cum on her face. This is the starting point for some predictable jokes. Compare this scene with the scene in "There is something about Mary" where Cameron Diaz struggles with the same problem. In that movie the joke does work and the face of Cameron in that scene is a classic one!
Besides the jokes, or better the lack of it, the movie contains a childish, obligatory and predictable story. The story isn't fun nor exciting. It is just probably there because someone thought that a plot was needed. The last half hour of the movie is spend on completing this dull story line to finish the movie. It's provoking simplistic and dull.
After seeing this movie I can only think of A better Million Ways to spend my 10 euros on. (badum tss..)
Arrow (2012)
fantastic action / terrible melodrama (review of season 1)
It's hard to say that i can recommend this series to any of my friends. If you are able to withstand/enjoy some of the worst and hilarious melodrama you will find yourself a series containing some raw violence and some good action with top notch fighting scenes.
The acting and especially the interactions between the leading characters is implausible and almost alienating. The mother-son relation / brother-sister relation / the relation between the best friends and so on and so on are weird and shocking.
The acting (especially in family situations) is stiff and awkward and it almost makes you wonder if these actors are from an other planet and aren't familiar with some of the most basic emotions. Especially Laurel (Katie Cassidiy) seems not to be able to display any emotion on her face. It was through the lines of text she reproduced that I was able to guess what emotion was on her face. When I studied her facial expressions I noticed she seem not be able to frown / move her eyebrows :) Yeah it's terrible..
The actors who are able to deliver some good acting are bothered by the insane dialogues they have to reproduce.
Luckily the melodramatics scenes are compensated by some top notch action and a nice plot. When "the hood" appears you will see some kick ass action and brutal pay back. Arrows / knives / close combat / ruthless revenge. The locations / camera-work it all falls together. Combined with some nice dolby surround editing this makes worth all the cheesy and unbelievable dialogues.
The verdict: 3 stars for the inhuman acting and weird dialogues. 8 stars for the action / the plot / and the look and feel of the locations and sound editing.
Reincarnated (2012)
nothing more then a extended music video
The documentary evokes more questions then it answers. Snoop Dogg tells he wants to discover the rastafari life. What was he expecting? What is driving him? What does rastafari mean to him? What has this soul journey brought him? Well, some of the most essential questions remain unsolved. All you see is a man playing the roll of the rapper Snoop Dogg.
The documentary has not more depth then an average music video. Snoop is playing Snoop and that's it. Then there is the music in the "documentary". I got the feeling that Snoop is more of a personality and a singer. The whole musical production seems to be done by Diplo and his crew. Furthermore there seem to be little chemistry between the rapper and his selected producers. The cooperation feels more like pragmatic business relation.
The most fascinating about the documentary is the role of his wife and kids. The multimillionaire gangster rapper still being with his first wife. She is credited as producer and her nickname is "Boss Lady".. Unfortunately her role is limited to a few shots and I can't recall her getting to say some lines. But it gives you glimp of the true person behind Snoop Dogg.
Maybe this "docu" is interesting for the fans. For other people this is very mediocre prolonged video clip not worthy to be entitled as documentary.
The Wolverine (2013)
an insult for the viewer
The Wolverine and ninja's... what could go wrong? Haha a lot! This movie has no soul. You simply don't care what happens to anyone of the characters.
The camera work, the acting, the story, choreography of the fights it is not what you expect from a X Man franchise. It all feels obligate. But maybe the biggest problem is that there aren't any interesting (action) scenes. The action scenes lack tension and intensity. Is it it the choreography? Is it the camera-work? I don't know but if this is supposed to be an action movie, it simply failed.
The story is horrible and the motives of the various characters feels completely random.
I was merciful and I gave this movie 3 out of 10 stars. This movie is a pile of cinematic crap.
Riddick (2013)
this movie delivers!
After the first scene you know it. This movie will not disappoint you. If you like sci-fi and non pretentious action movies this movie is one to watch.
The art director did an amazing job to create a ruthless planet where the story takes place. In combination with the refreshing and vivid cinematography it takes you on a great cinematic trip.
The visuals and the special effects are top notch. The CGI in combination with great props makes it a convincing whole.
I just liked it. This movie simply delivered, you could feel / see it was made by people who understand this genre. It was not pretentious or moralistic, no it's just a very well made action sci fi movie. And it was awesome :)
