Devs (2020)
5/10
Plagiarism or flattery through imitation?
5 April 2020
From the very beginning it is very obvious that the style of storytelling, cinematography, and the soundtrack were heavily influenced by the works of Stanley Kubrick. (Specifically, 2001...., A Clockwork Orange, & The Shining.) So much so that is difficult to determine Garland's intention. Was this an attempt at honoring Stanley Kubrick or was it just plain plagiarizing him with the hope that no one would notice? (Someone may want to check if Devs was an actual unused screenplay written by SK. I'm fairly certain this isn't the case, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to check.) (wink emoji)

Also, I have to ask, why was a young women cast to play the part of Lyndon? Was there a shortage of young male actors available to play such a part? (Which I doubt), Imo, it was just a sneaky endorsement of gender neutrality which is a foolish leftist extreme void of common sense as they invite you to deny the fundamental basics of human biology.

If I completely ignore the flaws mentioned above, I would have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the series.

The truth is, had I been ignorant of Kubrick's works, Garland's Devs would have probably gotten an 8 or 9 but I'm not, therefore it gets a 5.
