The Brokenwood Mysteries: Brokenwood: The Musical (2023) Season 9, Episode 1

Great start to the season

Not sure why this episode currently only has a 6.7 rating. Even the average Brokenwood episodes deserve more than that.

The musical concept was suitably hilarious, with some truly dreadful songs, that were sung with such gusto and passion! I image the writers had an absolute blast coming up with the musical numbers.

The supporting cast was excellent as always, with a number of characters reappearing, including a previous murderer, and the mystery was a good one.

With lots of humour, beautiful scenery, and delightful interplay/exchanges, every episode of Brokenwood Mysteries is an absolute treasure, and I've lost track as to how many times I've watched each season now.

Laugh out loud funny show (spoiler)

Just finished watching the 2nd series of this show and thought it was as good as the first.

Essentially, a 'celebrity' - invariably a comedian - chooses a handful of their favourite and worst moments from their TV memories. The clips vary from from the well-known to obscure.

Sean Lock is a great host and always makes me laugh - I just wish he'd write more sitcoms because 15 Storey's High was superb. He also has a superb rapport with the guests and you get the impression that he's mates with most, if not all, of them. It's Lock's quick wit that means the show is not entirely dependent on the quality of the guests, although they do help, obviously.

Whereas the best guest in Series 1 (in my opinion) was Johnny Vaughan - his rant on the motorbike gang member who works leather literally had me in tears - I thought the Series 2 highlight was Lee Mack. The piece with Rod Hull and emu was just superb.

Jack Dee, Alan Carr, Jimmy Carr, Omid Dialili and Ronni Ancona were the other guests and all had their moments - particularly Jack Dee and Alan Carr. Was a little disappointed with Jimmy Carr though, who is usually very very funny.

I'd like to see Russell Brand and Eddie Izzard on future shows - would make for superb viewing.

A Lot Like Love (2005)

Great movie - funny, romantic and poignant

From the majority of other comments written about this film, it would seem that there are a lot of bitter, cynical people out there.

I watched this film last night with my wife and we both loved it - we laughed a lot, and thought the 2 main characters perfectly complimented each other - their chemistry was wonderful and utterly endearing, and you actually gave a sh*t about what happened to them.

Maybe I'm a sucker for a good romantic comedy, but I'm astounded by the negative comments posted on this site. Some posts criticise the dialogue, but, well, isn't that just how people actually speak? I generally do not give out lengthy monologues re: my emotional state, and can appreciate a movie that deals in real language. It doesn't make the film any less appealing or worthwhile.

Go and see it with an open mind and, if you have a heart, then you'll love it.
