Nope (2022)
A huge dissapointment
As someone who loved Peele's previous movies "Get Out" and "Us" (and a subtle twist horror genre movies in general) I already started to have some doubts when I saw the last trailer of this movie, but I still had decent hopes and went to watch it. Boy, that was a bad decision. Unfortunately this movie was so dissapointing that I even lack words to describe how bad it was - characters are so annoying that I actually rooted for the alien, there was NO sense in the decisions that they did, most scenes was way too long while not adding anything to the plot or explenation, directors weak attempt at non-linear storytelling with poorly timed flashbacks failed miserably, and films third act was a laughable s**tstorm (both literally as well as figuratively). Two hours of my life that I will mot get back, unfortunately.
Pilseta pie upes (2020)
Movie that tries to be too much at once, but unfortunatly fails in most departments
I'm Latvian, and I'm patriot, and I've even spent a lot of my childhood in the locations near our Eastern Russian border, where this movie's plot was happening and where it was shot, so I had reasonably high expectations for this movie. Also in the last few years our local movie studios have started to make a really decent movies, especially historic ones, so I did expect that this one will keep rising the standards of our local moviemaking. Boy, I was wrong.
Unfortunatly this movie left a lot to be desired - plot was trying to be a romantic drama (and comedy) set on the top of politic/social/war stage, cinematography tried to follow the latest modern trends, and cast of mostly unknown actors was trying to give a fresh feel to this flick, but unfortunatly it failed in all three areas...
Plot was boring, badly paced and intended bits of non-linear storytelling made some bits even straight confusing, and I imagine it would be even worse for the people who have not read the source novel first. Cinematography was poor. Artistic choice of making every...single...shot to have an angled horizon was just painful to watch - instead of serving as a nice touch and bringing some fresh framing to the scenes, it left me wondering whether the film crew simply had a problem with a camera dolly leveling... And acting was far from what I expected after reading news articles about "cast of young, fresh talents" - there was absolutely no chemistry between any of the main characters in the love triangle, or between anyone else, for that matter. The dull expressions and awkward clumsiness of the lead actor was not so much portrail of his character, as it was simply a bad acting. Asking actors to speak in three languages, most of which were not their native, didn't help at all.
In conclusion - maybe if this movie would've been conceived, shot and launched in theaters a few years earlier, before the numerous other latest Latvian historic dramas, it would be a somewhat decent movie by itself, but given the good Latvian movies shot lately, this was a really dissapointing in comparison. 5 out of 10 stars from me.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016)
Literally one of the worst movies that's ever made.
I usually don't spend my time writing reviews for awful movies, but once I came to see IMDb review section and saw few people who gave this movie anything above 3 stars (god forbid 8-10 star rating I saw few times in comments here), I just couldn't let it go.
This movie is AWFUL. God dammit, I even lack the skill of written English to express HOW terrible this two hour garbage was. I'm not even a fan of original game franchise, and last few previous RE movies already raped the game legacy to the roots, but this movie is like a last spit in the face of anyone going to cinema or buying the BluRay.
Totally ridiculous plot, most terrible editing, worst fight choreography (if there even was one), and total mashup that was just disappointment from the very first to last second. Even the last boss fight was lamest of the whole franchise instead of grand finale - how it's even possible to f**k up this badly?!
I can assure everyone, that any 8 star voter here is either crew member of the movie, relative to Anderson, or just really lost his mind...
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
If this is considered "great" superhero movie, I'm an elephant
I'm not a huge fan of comic book superhero movies, but as a movie enthusiast that's seen most watching-worth movies in last two decades, I'm more than sure that I can more or less adequately assess quality of the film. And I watched this movie with already pretty low expectations, seeing how superhero movies (with only handful of exceptions over last few years) is getting dumber and worse with every year.
And boy, this movie was disappointing in all possible aspects, from plot and acting to even the CGI - even the over-the-top action scenes was somehow dull and boring, character conflict that was driving the movie plot was so forced and incredibly stupid, that I was just absolutely blown-away with the fact that anybody can call it plausible and go with the flow.
Even the CGI and practical effects, that at least in most cases of high-budget superhero flicks, is top notch and high quality, was very poor and seem totally fake.
I seriously can't get over the fact that this movie has 8 (!!!) stars in IMDb, when in every possible aspect it earns 3 at the VERY best. I guess movie audiences are just getting dumber and expected quality of movies has just plummeted all-time-low.
Snowpiercer (2013)
7.8 stars for this belove-average action flick, seriously?
This is my first review, actually, and I only made it to state my surprise about inadequately high assessment that this movie holds in IMDb. I mean - movie had great concept (I loved the design of original comic this movie is based upon and actually enjoyed first trailer when I saw it), but let's face the facts - acting is simply awful, Evans barely can hold his role together, and movie's plot is so predictable and straight forward boring, that nothing, even mediocre cinematography and great interior design of the shots simply can't save it from being failure.
I honestly can't believe that only one of the other reviewers here in IMDb have stated, how incredibly overrated this movie is. "Best movie I've seen in my life" - seriously? Have this guy have seen ANY other movie EVER to make this kind of statement? What the hell?
I gave this movie 4 stars, and ONLY because of work of director of photography and artist who made interior design of the train - everything else - actors, acting, plot and even CGI was so poor that it wasn't even entertaining, even not talking about pulling some strings, as it obviously supposed to do.
