Big Little Lies (2017–2019)

definitely not a MYSTERY series
19 August 2017
Disappointed mainly for not achieving the level it promised. This mini-series was promoted as "little town secrets" kinda show but i found no traces of it in the show. Many things works so fine in this series BUT the story goes nowhere, the mystery is too weak and the reveal too casual. As a audience there is no enough shock or twist in the story.Especially towards the end it feels incomplete and empty. Other major problem is it's sub-plots ,writers do a poor job of tying it all at the end.we are shown unnecessary story-lines(which were probably in the book),but has little life in the show as later we find out they are just distractions. And the major complaint is Seriously underdeveloped MALE characters,I know the writer of the book is female and the show centers around the female characters but while it has time to show unnecessary sub-plots ,it never makes time for Male characters to develop. And so when they portrayed it feels so hollow and depth-less.All male character act the same way throughout the series .One major example is Nicole kidman's husband who is a Wife-beater and violent type but we never get to see why he is and acts in such way.We even don't know what he does and how he interacts with people outside his family. He goes away,he comes home when it's appropriate for the story .He beats his wife buts loves children .we never find much about the guy who is so vital to the main plot. The show just tells us "well that's the way he is",which is a weak excuse for a HBO level show and given the stature of people involved.

Though if you can get past some flaws, you may enjoy it's Sea-shore setting, dark humor and good performances.

Lot of thing happens so fast you don't get it at first and later you just don't care

Guy Ritchie had some slip ups in the past.He is not as respected or credited as much as he should be for introducing Groundbreaking slick direction. Not in the level of say Danny boyle and Edgar wright. But his work has been falling so steadily from one movie to another that it has not only become unpopular among the critics ,but also equally ignored by mass audience. And with this Movie his downfall is more apparent. His distinguishable montages and sequences have turned into clichés and overdone mess.

Sure there are some glimpses of old Ritchie in this movie but it is rather quickly disposed. if only he hadn't abandoned his slick narrative or maybe he should have abandoned it all and had done something new.BTW Sometimes it feels like a movie done by a amateur studio hired director trying to copy Guy Ritchie. This should have been a good movie but it's not,a chance missed perhaps for Ritchie.Hope he comes back Strong.

It's like some old song you've heard before
9 November 2016
And you think you know the lyrics but you really don't. And as you go on mumbling on with it to remember the words, you re- experience and unknowingly fall in love with it. This is like a country music, nothing you haven't heard before but it still finds the new tone, and manages to keep it simple. There is great depth in characters and some good dramatic structure. Foster and pine are great together and you've got your ever reliable Jeff Bridge as a Texas Ranger and nothing goes wrong in the movie. It's effective storytelling combined with great landscapes and fine performance. This movie will feel like a silent retreat from those loud summer blockbusters and superhero movies. All in all this is a good movie and probably one of the best neo- western movie in recent years.

Inconsistent pacing, too much of distracting Sub-plot But.. finally a Pay-off from unlikely place.

The power that Stephen King possesses to bring his stories to a brilliant conclusion has always been evident. Movies like "The shawshank redemption","the green mile" are elevated by their Heartfelt endings. That same element has saved this series from going awfully wrong and mediocre to something more memorable. The problems are in mid episodes when the series seems so distracted from it's original plot and gets mixed up in something else, which may had been a major storyline in the book but audiences feel misguided because they feel unprepared for those sub-plot.Audiences were made prepared for the thriller premise of the story in the Trailer and in the Pilot. But the character gets lost in all the mumble jumble which may be slightly interesting but it's not what audiences were in for. All said it does picks up in momentum towards the fifth episode ,with sixth episode being the best of all.it all Makes up for a thrilling and somewhat Heartfelt final scenes, which are totally worth it. My verdict is :Watch it patiently and remember It's not a full on Mystery Thriller, enjoy the journey and don't focus too much on the Destination.

Bang on entertaining.

So This movie does not go around explaining the historical or cultural significance of the meet between the two of the famous people of their times.Nor does it mull over the personal lives and problems of those two. the movie chooses a path of storytelling that only includes the fun and ridiculousness of the entire incident, and I have to tell it works like a crossover between The American president and Bubba ho tep. Makers of this movie have utilized people's knowledge on this 2 people and spent 86 minutes of it's run-time exploiting the various circumstances and Ridiculous proceedings that led to this meet. It's superficial and covers only a side of a story, but this are the very reasons you will enjoy the movie without being too political. It also gets additional points for it's cool casting ,Shannon, spacey, hanks make their characters look interesting and funnier, while never truly loosing the dramatic responsibility. All in all I would say go for it.

A plausible effort..

Audiences known to Vidhu vinod Chopra's cinema were desperately waiting for this movie & for much part it lives on to it's promise providing audiences with some thought provoking ideas. But ultimately leaves audiences in self-doubt on their final verdict on the movie, audiences will be questioning themselves at the end, did the movie lived up to it's full potential it promised early on .this is something audiences themselves have to decide.

Having said that if you are going for an offbeat bollywood movie then you should definitely check it out, Because if you watch this movie with some taste than it does offer spirit fully in the form of performance, energy and tight plot. This little passion project is something to look back on after some decades, as it itself is a homage to sleuth filmmaking of the past.

One of the darkest Hollywood Blockbuster ever
25 March 2016
Simplified in a sentence this movie is a"dark dreamy and moody piece of artistry filled with themes of Male ego, painful childhood and Exhibition of power " .Even the introduction of Wonder woman doesn't make it less masculine . This is a movie of two halves. While the first half is intentionally slow paced, the second half is full of visual spectacle ,like no one has ever seen before. ALL said there are various plot holes and flaws, and storytelling is not as tight as it should be.But people tend to forget how hard it is show two of the greatest superheroes with so diverse background. In order to get full thrust of the movie you have to ignore some of them. I think marvel has spoiled the audience ,showing that there must be some comic relief in a movie.BVS stands against it entirely. Ben affleck stands out in his role .henry cavill looks right and gal gadot steals the scene.Jesse has also done a fine job although I feel they should have casted someone a bit older.

This could easily have been Transformer. But I must say DC are doing a great job keeping faith in Zack Snyder's vision of storytelling.

GO see it FOR SOME OF THE MOST ICONIC BATMAN AND SUPERMAN MOMENTS EVER.

I just hoped it never ended....

if you've got time then do stop by the Minnie's Haberdashery. Though the weather is pretty bad ,they are serving a nice stew.A bowl full of Sam Peckinpah ,Sergio leone, and a little bit of Agatha Christie. The place is occupied by colorful characters with intriguing secrets,so watch-out if somethings just pops up or something just blows up.

As for me ,For 2 and a half hours , i was the spectator of Minnie's Haberdashery and i loved it every single second. The master has gone and done it again. He gets everything right. He has movie genes all over him .who are we to argue ,who is anyone to argue or review the work of greatest filmmaker of our time.

As far as RECOMMENDATION GOES- MOVIE GEEKS/LOVERS NEED NONE.FOR CASUAL MOVIE WATCHER WHO IS JUST LOOKING FOR A GOOD TIME AND REALLY ISN'T INTO MOVIES ,I CANNOT GUARANTY 100% SATISFACTION ,THEY MAY FIND IT ODD AND UNEVEN,EVEN IF THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH DIRECTOR'S PREVIOUS WORKS.

Boorman's Best movie and may be the best fantasy movie ever
5 September 2015
The rise and the fall.Story of love, betrayal and forgiveness.Loyalty, courage, bravado & everything. this is a complete package .This is the movie for future reference showing us what a movie should be all about .And to wrap it all up in sugar coat the Brilliant UN-compromising direction and vision of the great Boorman .What do you want from a movie it's all in here the great casting even some minor roles ,Great music that catches the atmosphere, and a Damn good Story. Not all cherished it's greatness upon it initial release but against the test of time this has undoubtedly stood firm and even grown in it's greatness. They don't and can't make this kind of movie anymore.this is a true classic, enough said.

Patience is the key
3 January 2015
well i had originally planed to watch it in a day after 4 episodes i got caught up in other things and later I just did not care very much for the show.Because for me the show was going no where and early 4 episodes were too slow paced. But after 2 months i thought of giving it another chance. And I have to say if you can get past the slow paced beginning the later episodes are wonder treats. This is one of the best modern spy thriller in years. best thing about the series is,it knows what it's doing and takes us in the territory of modern political spy thriller with some strong writing and directing.it gives us every angle of it's story.Apart from being a well written spy thriller it's also human drama with unbiased storytelling which has no theatrical heroes and villain. We see from different angles that, every character have their own faults and virtue, every side have there own story which leads to a gripping but very humane conclusion that makes this show a worthwhile.

I love eastwood , but you gotta try harder than this
12 May 2014
I rarely leave a unfinished movie. but this sucked, just like the eastwood's heartbreak ridge.the story is too cheesy and thin.i mean if you watch the movie after half and hour it doesn't really matters because during that time nothing happens to affect the main story line.Their young selves are not shown in great deal so we know nothing about their friendship. Also how idiotically they all agree on this minute just waste of time and the movie didnot had to be that long ,this eastwood fully on autopilot . i am not even sure there was a proper screenplay, i think they just played it as they went on. all that i am old but i am good stuff.all that arrogant stuff. well i am pretty much over it. So i guess eastwood is dirty harry in all his movie.
