Doctor Who: The Church on Ruby Road (2023)
Loved it.
Welcome back Russel T. Davis oh how we've missed you. Back with a bang for the Christmas special. Great storyline. Great line up of supporting cast and we just loved the segment when the Doctor burst into song. Ncuti seems like a natural in the role. Can't believe we now have to wait until May 2024 to see the new series. This had just the right edge of scariness and I can imagine a few young ones hiding behind sofas which has become a right of passage for all us old Dr. Who fans. Ruby and the Doctor are going to be a great partnership and we even got Rose and her mum vibes at one point. A fantastic episode.
The Good Ship Murder (2023)
Easy watching
Yes it's not Shakespeare, the acting a bit wooden and plots a bit thin but on a cold and frosty November evening what's not to like about watching a fantastic cruise ship sailing around all the wonderful ports in the Mediterranean. Really liked the catchy theme tune and Shayne Ward sang all the songs at the end well. We cruise a lot and it reminded us of some our great Mediterranean cruises. If they make another series we would definitely watch. It was quite amusing though seeing all the MSC cruises branding removed but I guess it's still good publicity for them. Time to go and look at booking next summer's cruise.
Bodies (2023)
Absolutely brilliant
I absolutely loved this series. One of the best things I've seen on Netflix for a while. Such a great plot with twists and turns, never guessing what's happening next. A superb eclectic cast played their parts well, good special effects leading up to an explosive finale. Watched the last three episodes back to back as I was hooked. I can't be the only person to have a " what if " thought themselves after watching this. The tie in over the years was very clever and at no time did I think the plot was lost with the jumps to various time periods. More of this quality please Netflix. " know you are loved ".
All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
We all really enjoyed it.
I ended up watching this during a stormy afternoon and evening and so glad I did. I really enjoyed this and can't understand the negative reviews. The two young leads were excellent as were the supporting cast. I've not read the book but I found myself looking up the siege of St. Malo afterwards. My only slight criticism would be Mark Ruffalos occasionally dodgy accent. The war scenes were very realistic and not cheap. The story often told in flashbacks flowed well and I often felt the jeopardy of the two main characters. Sometimes Netflix seems full of so so stuff but this was excellent. The viewer reviews are much stronger than the critic reviews which says it all really.
Ted Lasso: So Long, Farewell (2023)
I can't believe it's finished.
Just watched the last episode. Brilliant is all I can say. Didn't want this series to end. Can't remember when I've enjoyed a programme more. Well done to all involved. This last episode had everything. Here we all watched it together and laughed and cried. Living close to the real Richmond means at least we can pop to the pub and the town every now and then to remind ourselves what a great series this was. It should be picked up by a big network and shown to more viewers. It's been the sole reason we've kept paying for Apple TV over the last 2 years although Silo has now given me another reason.
Star Trek: Picard: The Last Generation (2023)
My favourite episode ever
Well this old Trekkie has just shed tears after watching this. I almost didn't want to reach the end of the episode. Brilliant storytelling and the right amount of thrills and emotion. Thank you all for bringing everyone back together to face the greatest of the Trekkie villains . Perfect ending for probably one of the best of the Star Trek spin offs. I will miss Picard and the rest of the crew immensely. Hopefully we will see the new/next generation go on to do bigger and exciting things in the future. I actually wanted to see the new ship named USS Picard but I guess the Enterprise G will also do.
This Is Going to Hurt (2022)
Laughter and tears.
Highly watchable. Ben Wishaw was incredible as the lead character. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry at one point. Horribly realistic. Call the midwife it ain't!
