Alright, here's my theory about the season 3 ending on Sherlock. I think Moriarty did actually die in season 2. The "Miss Me?" picture that was widely broadcast was work of Mycroft and Sherlock. Mycroft made a deal with the authorities that Sherlock would serve in MI6 instead of serving in prison. But MI6 is known to be no point of return - especially the task Sherlock is assigned. Given that Mycroft's pressure point is Sherlock (as told by Augustus), Mycroft can do stuff like this to bring Sherlock back. As much as I love Moriarty's character, I am not convinced that he survived the gun shot. I hope he did not. Unless they come with unbelievably convincing theory.
