Not bad...
4 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Initially, I was simply lost in the world of late night pay television, and stumbled across this just as it started. After reading the description; (plot summary on the interactive program guide); I figured that this would be just the sleeping pill I needed to go to sleep with. Thankfully enough, I was wrong. As others have mentioned, this film pays homage to Risky Business, but in its own quirky way. Emile Hirsch simply comes across as a very likable high school kid who's never taken any kind of risk, has always had his life planned out, has his future all lined up... Until SHE moves in next door. Elisha Cuthberts' character starts out promising, but falls flat. There isn't enough development into her back-story, (aside from one quick reference to her high school days), no real telling of her story overall. Which isn't to say her performance was flat, it was well above par, and a whole different direction from the character she played on "24". Timothy Olyphant is perfect. He has enough depth in his character to make up for any other shortcomings this film suffers from. Overall, this is a mostly harmless film, that will leave the viewer with a smile, and maybe a chuckle or two. If you find yourself with a case of the late-night-can't-sleep-blues, go ahead, watch this. You won't be sorry.

Only watch this if nothing better is available.

Predictable. Horrid. Waste of time. The only thing appealing about this steaming pile of $#!t is the laughs it provokes. That's all I could do; was simply laugh - hysterically. I saw something about a possible sequel to this... I seriously doubt after 12 years that anyone would remember this thing, but the problem is that the newer graphics would be better, and someone might try to fix the story. But why would anyone want to do that? The storyline was a fairly good idea, but the execution was beyond terrible. Even for 1993, The Lawnmower Man came out a year before, and although the graphics are a bit dated by todays standards, they were so much better. If this thing ever airs again on any of the premium networks... get some friends together and give this the old MST3K treatment. It deserves it.

1st season genius
9 January 2005
As has been mentioned before, this show had the potential to become another one of the big hits that NBC had in its stable. Everything about this show in the first season made it worth tuning in without fail every week. The problem came when in the second season, NBC decided to tone down the show, changing the entire storyline, and really trashing a great show. Cleaning up not only the rough and gritty setting, but changing the characters; what a shame. Basically, the end result is what would have happened to the film Heavy Metal if it were re-shot and re-cut, and edited by Disney. If Larroquette ever comes out on DVD, I'll buy just the first season. As I'm sure many others would as well.
