Wish Hotel (2012)
2 minutes of content in 38 minutes of runtime
Almost nothing happens in this video that drags on for no reason. It wouldn't even be enjoyable as a short. The story isn't interesting. All that happens is some people who work at a hotel do their daily jobs while boring customers do mundane things. It's strongly implied that a couple of them are using the room for a quickie, and that is literally the most interesting thing that happens. The maid relishes in touching the bedsheets and putting the customer's tooth brush in her mouth. Then some boring conversations ensue between the workers for twenty minutes. I skipped over most of the second half. Unless you enjoy watching people thoroughly clean toilets and make small talk for half an hour, then don't waste your time.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Bland Writing w/ Dazzling Aesthetics
I admit that I was initially pulled in by the artistry and Klingon infighting drama, but I lost interest after the first season. The characters are uninteresting, the dialogue is tedious when it isn't lacking, and the plot is slow and uninspired. I started with high hopes, then became disappointed that the show wasn't taking me anywhere.
Like other things called "STD", getting invested in this show may fill you with regret.
Llamageddon (2015)
Did Not Meet My Low Expectations
I expected entertainment of some kind, but I only got about two minutes of it. After that, just got trolled. The llamas are awesome, but they're barely in the movie. The opening was a fun little animated music video, but after that it gets worse as it goes. I'm convinced that they just wanted to torment their audience for their own entertainment. Watch the intro, then watch something else. I would love to see a remake of this that is actually good.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Masterful Social Commentary on 1960's America
Firstly, Night of the Living Dead needs to be understood as a period piece, as it was made as a social commentary about 1960's America, so many of its qualities which modern viewers may view as campy are not merely appropriate, but also entirely necessary. Any modern retelling of this story would entirely miss the point, especially with "better" acting, since it wouldn't represent the mainstream culture of the time. The "living dead" is a metaphor for the mindless masses who complacently contribute to violence against minorities just by going with the flow, doing what everyone else is doing. One person corrupts others, who corrupts others, who corrupt others. It's aggression against the outgroup, often coercing them into joining, which is why the characters are all endangered not so much by the ghouls as they are by themselves and by each other. The final death of the movie isn't even a metaphor, nor does it involve the living dead. It's just a white law enforcer murdering am unarmed black man who he ostensibly mistook for the enemy.
If you want a modern counterpart with "good" acting, then I recommend Shaun of the Dead, which is more about early 21st century England, and also tells some funny jokes!
The Good Place (2016)
Funny, Flawed, Fantastic
This series is utterly ridiculous at every turn, in a way that will make you laugh, make you think, and make you wonder. Its finale is the most beautiful ending to a series that I have ever seen. The only gripes I have about it are that it's judgements are arbitrary and that some things could have been better researched. I still recommend it for almost everyone.
**spoilers ahead**
One of the main characters is a philosophy professor from Africa who is "strictly kantian" in his own words, never mentioning that the real-life Kant thought of Africans as morally subhuman. Oversights like that one lose the show a perfect rating.
The Good Place is still an excellent show. Watch it with a loved one. Watch it twice.
