The Diplomat (2023)
Felicity can drop F bombs
Not sure why she has to talk like that. It doesn't add to the story or enhance her horrible acting in this. It's like they took her husbands character from The Americans and tried to make her into him. Contrary to the shows title, she is not a diplomat. If any diplomat went into a foreign country and acted like her, we would not exist.
I wasn't even sure it was Keri because she sounds so manly. I had to look it up, as I thought it was possibly a trans female playing the lead. The acting is pretty horrible all around. But hers especially. I could not even finish the second episode.
Netflix needs to step up their game. Shared passwords is the least of their problems.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Designated Ugly Fraud Facsimile
Duff began her career copying Ally Mcbeal with Lizzie Maquire. I hope copying HIMYM ends her career.
What an awful representation of her craft. This is worse than Maddie Ziegler playing autistic Music opposite Kate Hudson. The entire production company should be brought up on charges.
School of Chocolate (2021)
Sweet and refreshing
The professionalism of Amaury just makes this show the best baking show. GBBO has been one of my favorites. But Paul Hollywood doesn't pass on his knowledge. I always think this is a shame because he should be helping amateurs improve. Even if it's a demo after the "competition."
Amaury is showing techniques I can use at home. The sugar domes and flower petal techniques were invaluable.
I like that the prize s education along with money. The American shows always have to have a cash prize. In GBBO, they win a inscribed cake plate.
Amaury is kind and generous and he loves what he does. He has a new fan. What a great leader.
Just Mercy (2019)
Powerful
Watching this makes you realize how silly the #freebritney movement is. Not because she doesn't deserve freedom, but that we don't demand justice for our black brothers and sisters. Brian Stephenson was a hero and their should be a holiday named for him.
Great film and great acting. Yes, the book recounted much more violent acts. We don't need to see the electric chair scenes or lynchings to have compassion and demand justice. It's a good story and movies are meant to view perspectives other than our own. This film does that.
The Kissing Booth 3 (2021)
Horrible
I have liked Joey in other things, but she might as well take her sisters spot on Young and the Restless if this is her level. 1 was ok. But 3 films about a motherless girl who sleeps with her BF's brother. Yuk. Like any relationship that is based just on 2 idiots that screw and get into Harvard could be real. Like she has studied so hard. Just an entitled white trash movie.
She should have stayed home during Covid.
Tumbledown (2015)
Hallmarkish
It has the feel of a Hallmark Xmas movie. A better one but not a great flick.
Music (2021)
Maddie Ziegler needs to quit the acting profession
This girl wants fame, not to make a good movie. This was so carelessly done. Autistic kids don't just keep their mouths open and eyes rolled up. Kate was not much better.
Shiva Baby (2020)
Just bad
The acting, the characters. All the yelling aunts and cousins made my ears bleed. The music was from 1970 horror flick.
It was incredibly boring.we all attend wakes or shivas and they are never this boring. Just a waste of celluloid.
An Angel at My Table (1990)
No
This want even a movie. It was so boring and like watching snippets of a school day where nothing happens. All the death and horrors she sees and it's getting her period that makes her crazy? No. And they got the ugliest actors to play her. She had unruly hair, not a jacked up perm. Her mom did all of the other girls hair but hers was a rats nest? Just a boring unimpressive film.
Dare Me (2019)
Would have been better if they got an actual actress for the lead
The lead character playing Beth really needs some acting coaching. I don't see her having a long career if she doesn't improve. The fake anger and the fake deceitful looks just don't cut it. When she delivers a line indicating she knows something, you actually expected soap opera music to start playing.
The group of cheerleaders that are the actual actors don't really look the part. Cheerleaders are usually attractive and peppy. I just don't think Kelly has the face for film. I've never known a cheerleader that had teeth so in need of orthodontics. Her overbite is so bad it is distracting. She is the character that has a stunt double so I'm not clear why she was chosen at all.
I wasn't expecting Bring It On, but not Take It To the Curb either.
The Ottoman Lieutenant (2017)
Hallmark in Hell
The actress is bad enough to be in a When Calls the Heart episode. I hope she finds another profession. It's just as white as a Hallmark production, as well. They're in a Islamic country for heaven sake. Just.a stupid silly movie that should not have been made.
The Vanished (2020)
Yuk
Watch the first 10 minutes then fast forward to the end. You'll be glad. Just an awful movie.
Bridgerton (2020)
Brits need to review their history
I'm not sure why Brits are so angry about a fiction tv show from a fictional novel shows interracial partners. Queen Victoria received an African child as a gift and provided for her and her daughter the remainder of their lives. Capt John Smith married Pocahontas. The current royals are of German descent, not English.
I'm guessing the angry bigotry caused Harry and Megan to leave. Their are records of interracial marriages in England dating back to the 1500"s. Get over it. As far as Americans telling a British story, Christian Bale can play Batman, Dick Cheney and Laurie, then an American Can direct a "British" series. Who else could have played Bridget Jones for heavens sake.
If that is what causes you to dislike a story, then don't watch it. I thought this was pretty well done. It's intriguing and far less boring than Downton Abby. The story stays pretty close to the books. I hope there is a second season, but it was pretty much tied up at the end. I adored Simon and thought he did a great job. Wigs were a thing in 1817 Britain. I swear Paul Hollywood must have done the food. Hand pies and lady fingers and trefoils, oh my!
Enjoy a glass of tea and some biscuits and enjoy a good story.
The Secret Garden (2020)
Nice retelling
If you are expecting an exact replica of the 1993 film, go back to your 1980 year of birth and continue to pine for your nostalgia.
Everyone else, this is based on a book. You've probably never read it, which is ok. Every one that reads a book, has a vision of what it means as did this film maker.
This is a nice movie for 10-14 year olds. It deals with grief and includes black people. Some people think this is called politically correct. Those people are usually from the South.
For everyone else, Britain had black citizens in the 1930's. So it's ok to interpret a fictions character as non white.
I give this a 7-8. Colin Firth is never a one.
Virgin River (2019)
Morally corrupt no humor
I watched season 1 and started season 2. I couldn't finish it. The main character is using that fake Mid Atlantic accent. She sounds like she should be on Gossip Girl. She didn't talk in that accent on This is Us.
She is sleeping with a basically married man. I just found her to be gross and the cause of her own problems.
Like Hart of Dixie, it's full of quirky characters and similar plot. They just took the fun out of it. Should have stuck to the books instead of revamping an imd show
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Completely captivating
I have found this to be the best thing on Netflix right now. I love when you can get lost in a show and it takes you along for the ride. This show does that so well. I can't wait for season 3.
The graphic novel was so dark. But the series shows you the darkness, while keeping the siblings in a state of innocence balanced with humor. Season 1, Hazel and Cha Cha steal the show. When Hazel cries after the tongue lashing from Cha Cha, you felt for him. But he wants to kill his own people instead of who he is ordered to kill.
I've seen a lot of Ellen Page hate in the reviews. To me, she makes the show. I look forward to seeing her storylines the most in each episode. She captured the persona of her character perfectly. She has acted with some heavy hitters: Leo DiCaprio, Laura Linney, Julianne Moore, JK Simmons. She can hold her own and shows such depth and layers in Vanya. She is the peacemaker until the violin goes white. She may be tiny, but she packs a powerful punch. She is supposed to be the downer. You have to read the novel to understand that. Season 2, she was much lighter and had some funny moments. I did miss the violin in season 2. That's her source of power.
As for Aiden Gallagher, what an amazing performance. 13-14 when he filmed season 1. To play the adult to all of his siblings and to do it so convincingly, was a joy to watch. I hope we see him on the big screen someday. I foresee a golden statue for him in his future.
Santa Girl (2019)
Slavery, selling your daughter, all white cadt
Worst movie I have ever seen. Could not finish. The acting was horrible. I hope she really attends university. She should not be in front of a camera ever again.
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Season 3 is jumping the shark
The Ani character did not make sense. She wasn't there and we already knew he was dead. To add her was stupid. Plus to make her British. People think Americans are horrible. If you're going to use half the cast from the UK, make it about a UK school. Kids swear. But they used the f bomb 12 x's per episode. Not necessary.
But the biggest failure is trying to make the rapist likable. People are multi faceted. Kids make mistakes. But this person raped repeatedly. They showed it in detail. That translates into who he was. The writers try to make him some sensitive message gender bender sender. He was a pen evil character. Should have kept it that way.
Kids also don't own the police interviews. Adults aren't all stupid. Watch Roll Red Roll if you want to see what rapists look like and how cops interview kids.
