Poe (2012)
Poe? Woe would be more accurate.
Without exaggeration, this is the worst film I have ever seen. Excruciating dialogue, poorly fleshed out characters ( no pun intended) and murky visuals combined with poor sound.
I realise this was a low budget movie, but so was Deadtime, and while that's no masterpiece, it stands head and shoulders above this.
It really does resemble a 1980s direct to TV film.
Please avoid this, there are many many other films out there that deserve you attention more than this.
This seems to me like a cheap cynical exercise in cashing in on the Poe connection, when in reality, other than a tenuous connection to the main character, this offers nothing about Poe.
Skew (2011)
A very entertaining movie that you have to think about.
First off, this is not a found footage movie, and was never intended to be. The Writer/Director has said so himself. It was intended to be a regular feature that the majority of just happened to be filmed in first person. It is important to take this on board so that you don't go into it with any preconceptions. In fact it was filmed in 2004, before many of the found footage movies where released.
Second, you really have to pay attention, there are many subtle clues throughout the movie as to what is happening and they are easy to miss, this is not a brainless popcorn muncher.
(Potential Spoiler Alert) In particular, once the apparitions start to appear, pay attention to their appearance, especially their wounds.
Other people have covered the plot of the movie so I won't repeat what they have said.
If you go in with the right mindset and are willing to give the film your full attention, you will be rewarded with one of the most satisfying thrillers, of recent years. It's just a shame more people haven't heard of it.
It's one of those rare movies that will be rolling around in your head long after the credits have.
I cannot wait to see more from Sevé Schelenz, definitely one to look out for.
