Movie 43 (2013)

Not for everyone. But definitely for me.

After reading so many negative reviews, I almost didn't watch this movie. But I am glad I did.

It takes a particular sense of humour to enjoy it.

It is random. Bizarre. Unique. Wacky. Offbeat. Maybe a little self-indulgent.

I can understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea. There is no real plot as such, apart from a deliberately B-Grade side story. But that is the setting for multiple unrelated short stories, each one equally random and hilariously ridiculous.

It is like someone with really good connections took acid, pulled an all-nighter, vomited up a bunch of weird vignettes, then the next morning phoned around a heap of high-profile actors and called in a favour.

In a nutshell, if you find humour in randomness, this one is for you.

Little nugget of somewhat indulgent gold.

It's a novel concept and rolls stand-up comedy, reality TV and our fascination with celebrities into one little bite-sized but right-sized segment.

The show is not constant laugh-out-loud humour and initially may appear not to live up to the high expectations which inevitably attach to a Jerry Seinfeld venture. You might even feel torn between the desire to watch, and the unwillingness to admit that you're interested in watching a celebrity get a cup of coffee.

But drop your guard, watch a few episodes, and you will realise that the creators do not intend to suggest that you have nothing better to do than watch their mediocre moments. Rather, this show is the loving little side-project of someone who just wants to share their passion for cars, comedy and the subtleties of human relations.
