Transformers (2007)
Surely it is not a movie that deserves to be in the Top 250 list
A movie that relies on CGI and attempts to cover all its deficiencies (weak plot, awful dialogs and bad acting) through computer generated animations surely does not deserve to be in the top 250. The first part of the movie was 'ok', which could barely deserve a 7, however the second part was no better than a Walt Disney movie based on the friendship of benevolent giant robots and kids. The tense atmosphere of the first part was gone and something not better than a well-designed video game demo came through. How can people be so generous in their votes is another question. However, it can be explained by "kids voting kids' movies". 6 is my vote, which is more than it deserves...
Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)
A brave new perspective, an anti-militarist masterpiece
Letters from Iwo-Jima offers a new perspective since it is a movie that does not deny that "the enemy" may have humanly feelings as well. Most of the films based on World Wars I and II present "the enemy" deprived of all humanly feelings but allocate much time to present the friendships, love-affairs and the past family relations of "the heroes". The enemy, on the other hand, are presented as robots "programmed to kill" who do not hesitate when a soldier (a comrade) dies next to them in the front, as if they have no friendships, no feelings and all the other qualities bestowed to "the heroes". This has always been the product of a "one-sided" perspective to the war and its consequences. Moreover, apart from this brave new perspective, Eastwood also has much to say about the beast called war and its irrationality.
A master-piece, a must-see in many aspects.
Xing fu shi guang (2000)
A great movie with a real good story...
It is a great movie... Yimou Zhang is one of the greatest directors on earth but one of the most overlooked talents. The world doesn't stop at Hollywood. Many great talents become overshadowed by the high budget Hollywood movies(and most of these movies literally don't tell "anything" to their audience). This is a movie with a stand, it presents a world-view and most importantly it is humane... It has a story with sub-texts and in these sub-texts, most people may find many details familiar to their emotional experiences. It is an intimate movie because it tells about "the good side of the mankind that we all must preserve in ourselves". I recommend it to everyone.
Predator (1987)
How come the predators build intergalactic spacecrafts?
I like the movie so much. However, a question concerning the overall logic of the movie has always haunted me: How come predators build intergalactic space crafts when they can't see things in detail as humans do? (they sense beings only through the heat they emit). The predator can't recognize Arnold covered in mud and perceives him as a part of the scenery in the runaway scene. Eventually, how can they build microchips and all the tiny technological stuff when they are literally "half blind"? They travel through the universe at light speed, they reach the earth from a galaxy that is perhaps unidentified by earthlings and they do all these things using super technology space crafts but they can only sense the heat emissions?
