The Mist (2017)
A "mist" opportunity.
This is just a morally incoherent "Lord of the Flies".
An officer (Connor, who had been rough towards a woman) acts outraged about another woman (Nathalie) being hit after spouting off nonsense about nature wanting vengeance (something, something, sexual assault, something, something, animal rights), and then he beats up the priest. It appears that the audience is supposed to like Connor, despite his hypocrisy and power trips. In their "trial by ordeal", the priest is killed by "the mist", while Nathalie survives. (Nathalie is later understood to be incorrect and evil, although she is still treated with sympathy, but the anti-Catholic explanation given before is that "the priest's God" is false, while nature - a "she" - is in control and setting things right.) Connor and Nathalie burn down the church with people inside. Connor later stabs a woman, with the approval of Nathalie. "The mist" gives Nathalie a relatively peaceful death, while Connor gets away. Adrian, the gay teen dressed in dark colors and with "666" emblazoned on his shirt, terrifies his mother, kills his father, and sexually assaults his female friend (Alex). (Homophobia?) But he gets away. "The mist" is apparently about to kill Alex (an innocent victim), but then it kills Jay (an innocent hero) instead.
Good luck making sense of this mess.
