The Old Way (2023)
Passable
Predictable script, mediocre acting and rather undeveloped characters. Liked the marshal, Nick Searcy the most as he's a great character actor. Plot was thin and not very interesting which leaves you happy that you didn't spend a lot of money going to the movies to see it. Kept waiting for a big moment and none arrived. All the ingredients were there to make it much more entertaining but it just never got there. The movie cast and locations were totally unbelievable from the perfect teeth and tailored clothing to the very tidy streets. This is a low budget made in maybe a week or two for the audience who craves westerns and can't find much fare.
Lights, Camera, Vegas!: Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Pretty Good
Stumbled on this one on Netflix. Since I'd seen the movie I bypassed it several time. Then like a lot of people I ran out of anything interesting to watch. It's a series so I gave it a shot. I was hooked from the first one. Great casting, good scripts, interesting with good character development. Keeps you guessing.
No Time to Die (2021)
Rehash
Nothing new here to see but the addition of a woman who has become Bond. The rest of it was a yawn. Same old casting types. Great special effects and cinematography. Some characters too short lived to be interesting. On the whole, I'd have been bummed if I'd paid to see it in the theater. Watched it, well half way thru, on Amazon. Was ready to go do something else in pretty short order.
The Staircase (2022)
Low
Stuck it out half way thru and it was boring and very confusing. Good casting, good acting, not much of a script. Good luck on making it all the way to the end. One of those that jumps around and doesn't clue you in to the characters very well.
The Batman (2022)
Noir
Decent movie and very artsy but NOT for children. Good cinematography, good acting, ingenious casting. Was expecting the old genre of Batman movies and in some ways was disappointed and in other ways surprised.
Needle in a Timestack (2021)
Waste
That was a waste of time and the only way I got thru it was that I was playing solitaire. It's not sci-fi and it's not very interesting to boot. I kept thinking give it a few more minutes...it never picked up and it was so slooooooooow it was painful.
The Survivalist (2021)
Don't Bother
To say this is low budget is to insult low budget movies. Decent actors, terrible sets, terrible script. I kept fast forwarding just to get to the end. Not entertaining, actually painful.
Kate (2021)
Action
It's an action movie and I disagree with most of the reviewers, it had a thicker plot than most action movies. Great cinematography and great shots with some wicked fight scenes. It's a pretty good movie that I didn't have to put on pants and go to a theater to see after I paid 12 bucks. Great change from comic book characters and silly romance porn.
Shadowplay (2020)
No Thanks
Watched two episodes really wanting a reason to love this show but all I saw was a whole lot of murder, graphic and ugly and mostly gratuitous. It was well acted and the sets are remarkable.
Val (2021)
Touching
This documentary was filmed by a determined man who has endured. Lots of revealing information and interesting tidbits but so very sad. Val didn't lose his sense of humor and his tenacity. He's fortunate to have a loving family.
Wanderlust (2012)
Straight downhill
This started out as a satire on both ends of the spectrum, I've lived both. I see the hypocrisy it points out. Then it degenerated to the "jack ass" humor and low end vibe that wasn't funny or entertaining. This is one of the worst movies I ever saw eclipsed only by "Ratboy" and "Ishtar". Why did I watch the whole thing? Don't bother unless you are high and need to be ridiculous.
The Aspern Papers (2018)
ZZZZZ
Couldn't get past about 15 minutes. Very boring. John Reyes Meyer was absolutely TERRIBLE. It might have been a decent movie but way too slow.
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Action
Don't expect much of a plot or character development. This is about revenge and death. If you like that genre this is your movie. I fast forwarded to the end so I could see the revenge as the rest of it was not much to watch.
P.S. I Love You (2007)
Great
Lovely movie, enjoyed the story and loved Gerard as the husband but felt Hillary was miscast. She just didn't do the part justice in my opinion. She didn't have the look or deep emotion the part called for.
Romantically Speaking (2015)
Nothing Better To Do?
Same Hallmark formulate romance. Bennett is his same lovable and animated self but Morris can't act her way out of a wet paper bag. This is nothing special and not very entertaining. Script is saggy and the plot is thin.
