Beyond the Blackboard (2011)
Beyond the Blackboard
I was surprised. I didn't intend to watch the movie, but once I started I couldn't turn it off or DVR the rest. I wanted to stay till the end.
I found the child actors to be believable and talented. I was happy with the job the adults did as well.
I found the story to be sad, but truthfully what can be expected in our world today with the way things are (unemployment so high, lots of businesses going out and leaving people unable to take care of themselves any longer, and so forth). I found that the movie made me want to read the book, to see how accurate the story is. I can imagine that things were much worse than they were shown in the movie.
I was happy that the ending was real and not a happily ever after ending. Life for the homeless rarely seems to end with everything hunky dory, for some people things improve, for a lot they just go downhill quickly.
Most of all I was happy to get to meet the real person at the end of the movie. Although there was good info on how to help, which I am sure was most important to this wonderful woman, it would have been nice to have a better update on her family situation. IE: still married with this many kids, all grown or ages (fill in the blanks). It is something I always look for at the end of a true story.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1999)
Wonderful everything!
First I'll admit I am a huge Osmond fan, doesn't matter which one, I just am (and always have been). Second, this is the best Broadway musical I have personally seen, I am sure there are a lot more shows out there that are better, I just haven't seen them yet.
The costumes, music, voices and dancers are all so perfectly chosen for this film. I was amazed when I first watched it. The story is quite close to the Bible story, without going into too much detail. I love the use of many of the actors as multiple characters.
I knew this movie was a hit when I showed it to my husband, daughter and son and all three loved it immediately. It also helps, for those of you who may not like the Osmonds, to know that when Donny auditioned for this part, Andrew Lloyd Weber asked him where he has been all this time. Andrew personally chose Donny to take on the film role. From what I understand there were several well seasoned former Joseph's who could have done this role, but Andrew wanted Donny.
The Changeling (1980)
Worth your time
I love this movie, and I have it on DVD. I saw it when I was a sr. in high school. I went with my fiancé' and on the way home from the movie, riding on the back of his motorcycle, I was afraid. I was afraid to look around, I rode almost all the way home with my eyes shut! This movie is different from a lot of other supernatural stories. I was on the edge of my seat just about the entire movie. The interaction of the characters is smooth and seamless, which makes sense as the main characters were married in real life.
The language is pretty clean, especially for a horror movie. The hair on my arms stood up and I got chills in several scenes during the movie. One of the best scenes for me was the séance. It is one thrill after another.
Dead Again (1991)
one of his best
So you know, I own this movie in both VHS and DVD format. I lend out my VHS to anyone I can get to watch this movie.
I have seen many of Kenneth's movies, for me this is his best. Many others easily come to mind that are fantastic, but for me the two story lines and the mixing together of the two is incredible.
It is different, I was spellbound from the suspense most of the movie. I wanted it to end so I could know if everything works out, but then wanted it to go on and on.
If you like suspense, this movie is for you. The language is a little on the strong side at times, but not too much and appropriate to the characters and story.
Goin' Coconuts (1978)
great fun
I first saw this movie when I was a young teenager. I recently bought it online in VHS format. I loved this movie when I was a kid, even though I know it was no Oscar contender. I was and am a big Osmond fan.
This is a GREAT family movie. Not too scary for the little ones, enough suspense for the older kids. Mom and dad can enjoy this movie for exactly what it is, more Donny and Marie than you could get in the wonderful one hour weekly TV show in one sitting.
The music is really good, and the Osmonds prove yet again that even if you don't like them, they have fantastic musical abilities. The songs themselves are good and directly relate to the story. The acting isn't bad either. You even get a short preview of Donnys beautiful real life wife at the end of the movie.
