Split/Second (2010 Video Game)
8/10
Slick racing game

This game made freaking angry! But it was pretty dang amusing though. I definitely recommend this for anyone who really enjoys arcade style racers. Just expect some frustration along the way.

First off lets start with the pros. This game is fast, really fast, it gives off a nice sensation of speed. The fact that it has exceptional graphics adds to that. The cars handle smoothly too. The speed of the cars on this game definitely make up for the lack of a boost option. This game also gives you the option to blow up other cars in traps as well.

The single player at least has a nice 10 to 12 hours of game play. Which I love because video games seem to just get shorter and shorter nowadays. It also has some pretty decent online options for a racer too.

Now for those pesky cons. The first thing that comes to mind is the difficulty, it sometimes almost felt like I would get first place by chance. The sheer chaos this game creates from the power plays can get disorienting. Also, it would have been nice to see more variety in the environments of the tracks. Oh did I mention this game made me ANGRY?

So despite some minor hiccups along the way, this game is quite good. Hopefully you won't get as P.O.'d as I did at times.

Disturbia (2007)

Rear Window for the Xbox generation

Now this is an example of why we all like Shia Labeouf. He just plays it all very naturally. The nice thing is all his co-stars do as well. Who wouldn't want Carrie-Anne Moss for a mom?

Arbitrary intro to my review aside, this film is definitely very entertaining and quite solid. It's got nice performances by the lead and the supporting actors. David Morse certainly pulls off the cold and calculating freak next door well. Aaron Yoo and Sarah Roemer do a good job as Shia's friends. This movie also does a nice examination on the subject of voyeurism. Hopefully Hitchcock would be proud.

My complaints to this film, I feel are minor. Such as some clichéd character actions, and a few cheesy lines of dialogue here and there. And darn it I just don't get the character development I like from more modern movies that often. But oh well, it's still a worthy film.

Dang haters

Many reviews for this will have you thinking this film is terrible, i'm baffled as to why this is the case. The fact of the matter is that this film is fun and well made.

To get some negatives out of the way first, its definitely got a few obnoxious crude jokes. It also could have been a bit funnier at times. But overall it definitely put me in a good mood, especially because I'm a huge Will Ferrell and Danny McBride fan. I love how Wll Ferrell can deliver such ridiculous lines of dialogue with a straight face.

Despite being a major Hollywood film, I felt like this film had heart to it and didn't really feel hollow. I know I had already touched on this before but I just don't think all the hate on this movie is justified. It's coherent from beginning to end, all the lines are delivered well and it's very goofy. Not to mention the cgi isn't half bad as well.

Overall it's definitely a fun movie with a few small flaws. Ignore all the hate and go into this with an open mind, not expecting it to be quite like the old TV show, and you'll probably enjoy yourself.
