The Pink Panther (2006)
One of the Worst Movies Ever Made!
One of the worst embarrassments I've ever seen. Half the people walked out before the movie was half over. Not one laugh from the audience. Does Hollywood have no original ideas anymore? This movie should have never been made. Steve Martin, Kevin Line, Emily Mortimer and Jean Reno should hang their heads in shame. Avoid this disaster at all costs. Even the trailer, which is supposed to have funny scenes, has none. When you see them in the movie they are still not funny. I heard several couples comment "I hope no one we know saw us here!" That's how bad it is. Someone needs to tell Hollywood to leave these old movies alone. Next crappy movie remake looks to be "The Shaggy Dog".
Rumor Has It... (2005)
One of the Worst Movies of the Year!
This movie is just plain awful, the worst movie of the approximate 100 I've seen this year. The script is a travesty. I didn't laugh once. Kevin Costner has become one of the worst actors in Hollywood. Jennifer Anniston is an embarrassment in this movie. Some reviewers say that Shirley MacLaine partially saves this movie but don't believe it, she is totally wasted and her schtick falls flat here. Mark Ruffalo, who has been good in recent films is really bad in this disaster. The sister who gets married is one of the most stupid characters I've seen in a movie in a long time. Go watch paint dry, a better use of your time.
Junebug (2005)
Very disappointed in this movie
After viewing the trailers and reading a couple of reviews I was looking forward to this movie but was very disappointed in it. I noted the term "middle class" used in the summary. It should have been "Total White Trash". I found none of the characters interesting and most were just plain grating. The autistic artist subplot was stupid. Here again is a movie with an emphasis on cigarettes but what would you expect with a movie about Southern white trash? The religious parts were laughable. No wonder these states are "red". The most ridiculous character is the younger brother. His character did not ring true at all. If you want a slice of "white trash" life this is the movie for you.
Missing in America (2005)
This is an important movie to get in distribution
My wife and I just saw this movie at The Seattle Film Festival. It is outstanding. There are some minor flaws but this movie needs to get into nationwide distribution. The only way that will happen is if people that read IMDb ask for it. Danny Glover should be nominated for an Oscar and the little girl is a real possibility for a supporting actress nomination. This movie tells an important story about how this country has ignored the plight of mentally disturbed Vietnam veterans (get ready in twenty years for the same thing with Iraq veterans). It is too bad that intelligently made movies have trouble getting distributed while some much crapola does. Please contact your local film distributor and ask that they show this film.
Kicking & Screaming (2005)
One of the Worst Movies I Have Ever Seen
This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Completely predictable, unfunny and so badly written and acted it's hard to believe. An Oscar winner like Robert Duvall should be ashamed to have made this movie. Not one person in the theater laughed once at anything in this abomination. Will Farrell was in his element in "Elf" but is terrible in this movie. Every part of the movie feels false and contrived. The ending can be guessed after the first minute of the movie. The only redeeming part of the movie is the little Korean player. The rest of the child actors were awful. Put down Will Farrell in the same class as Ben Afflick and Ben Stiller, the three worst actors in Hollywood.
The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill (2003)
A remarkable movie. A must see!
This is a beautiful movie, a remarkable movie going experience. Mark Bittner is a man richer than Bill Gates & Paul Allen put together. His love for the parrots radiates through the movie. I was at a theater that was 90% full and the crowd was mesmerized, including some very young children. The movie is honest too, some of the birds die. The movie is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. It deserves to make a lot of money. Word of mouth has generated large audiences in Seattle and the movie has moved to different and larger venue. If only Hollywood could make movies half as good as this one. This movie will make you look differently at the animals in your life.
Coach Carter (2005)
Inspiring Story of an inner city coach who values education & basketball.
Although too long this inspiring story shows what one man can do when he believes in kids that the school system gives up on. This is a must-see movie not only for inner city kids and their parents but for everyone. It shows that when athletes are challenged intellectually as well as athletically they can surprise beyond expectations. Samuel L Jackson is excellent as Coach Carter. The principal athletes are very believable. The basketball scenes are good just not great. Carter's speeches to the players are believable and inspirational. The only disappointing thing about the movie is the one dimensional roles given to the girls, especially the over concentration on the cheerleaders. Well worth seeing.
