Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Just Good, The First is Way Better
The script is definitely weaker in most part, and the acrobatic or action CGI reminds me a lot of a lame Spiderman movie by Sam Raimi. I can see they're using Marvel formula and trying to bump it up further but not everything paid off, some are cringe. Pedro Pascal performance really saved the experience, and Kristen Wiig character's conclusion is somewhat left out.
For a superhero movie, the final fight is rather short and somewhat anti-climatic, it's like BvS all over again. It makes you go: "Really!? Is that it?"
Enjoyable movie nonetheless.
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)
Hollywood learned.
Dragon Ball has shown, Alita has shown, many Hollywood adaptations of anime/manga/game icons has shown that this one has really learn to exploit the hype, adapt what filmable, and show them enough not to let people expectation down.
Safe play, but it's enough. And that's what we need form anime/manga/game adaptation right now.
Fun movie, kiddos had fun, I had fun. This is for everybody to enjoy.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
Just the right amount.
It totally amaze me that the fight scene shows much of exhaustion and panicking moments to the point it made me think, "this is how martial artists/skilled assassin fight, they stick to the basic but still show human body limitations."
Adrenaline was pumped through the whole movie, it just blew me.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
One of the fastest 3 hours of my life!
A colossal conclusion, a proper ending for an epic saga.
It brought you to the beginning, it remind you of all the years you have invested. Then boom, here is that dessert that make you overwhelmed and craved at the same time.
It closed one door to open up another, there is still a new journey ahead of us.
Great execution by Joe and Anthony Russo!
Shazam! (2019)
This Formula Works Too!
Shazam did show a fresh new way to DC Superhero adaptation since Aquaman release, and it keeps getting better.
Definitely a fun movie, not gonna bother to talk about the cons, its there, but everything is alright.
See it with friends, or with family and kids, laugh and enjoy some good time.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Not what I (and they) expected, and it is okay, guys!
Yes, this movie is woman-centered, but the execution was not that heavily.
It stays where Marvel excels at best. The way they re-shaped origin story like this one definitely worked out, it's a fun and good movie.
There are characters that I felt need more screen time, I want to see them with more action. It still teases movie-goers with what will happen in the next movie like typical MCU movies. Soundtrack was great, but the way the formula was re-used from GOTG vol. 1, I still think GOTG vol. 1 is the game-changer.
Bottom line, everything was exactly okay. Never had to worry with issues spreading with this movie before, it looks good in the trailer, and turned out it didn't disappoint.
By the way, just my personal preference, I think there are more actress more suitable than Brie Larson to play Carol Denver. I am only speaking comic-wise, her performance was good though. What do you think?
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
From Multiple Enemies to Multiple Heroes.
Definitely a gorgeous movie, the visuals are absolutely enchanting.
It is beautiful and the storytelling was well-scripted. Sony really nailed this one!
Aquaman (2018)
Finally a Decent DCEU Movie After WW!
I always thought that the problem with DCEU was the over-handling from the WB executives and the conflict with the DCEU mastermind himself. But today James Wan came with a fresh new strategy, bringing a whole new experience of DCEU, the one we all deserve.
Since WW, I can say that this movie is the hope sprouting for us fans for all the upcoming DCEU movies. Sure it's not that great, there are still many rough scenes. BUT, there are exactly nothing I can complaint. This only makes me expect many great things from DCEU.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
An Almost Concert Experience on a Movie Theater.
Like every other biography or history movies, this one is not the most accurate. But I tell you, this one makes you sing and clap along, if not, your foot thumping a little so you would not make a scene. Feels majestic, great portrayal by the casts, especially Gwilym Lee and Joseph Mazello.
A Man Called Ahok (2018)
Could be A Man Called Tauke, Possibly.
Inspiring and humble, yet fierce movie. This movie will take you to a feel roller coaster, where you will feel sad, angry, happy, proud, all through to end.
The execution was not the best, but it has potential. The story telling were superb, you can see why some men's life stories could be important to shape our way in seeing the reasons behind one's tragedy.
I say it lack duration, the main protagonist felt more like a complementary piece near the end. The true core of this movie was the father figure with all his values and influences. I am not saying it was wrong, but put the spotlight a little bit more where it belongs.
It might be an appetizer, I do not know. The bond between Ahok and his father that shaped him the way he is not entirely an Ahok movie, I'd say. But the way Chew Kin Wah (and Denny Sumargo) delivered the pure performances and portrayal, bringing Kim Nam's struggles, ups and downs to us viewers, it was all worth it.
Let's just keep our fingers crossed, maybe next time there will be a sequel in store. As for now, recommended movie none the less.
Hanum & Rangga: Faith & The City (2018)
From Mediocre to "Please, STOP!"
All the previous movies were all mediocre if not bad, i dare say.
If this is Hollywood, then all the casts were doing what we call a "career suicide".
Seriously, what were they thinking?
I am not even going to bother breaking down all the points technically, because it's that bad.
