The Theory of Everything (2014)
Good, not amazing
It wasn't by change that the movie won so many nominations and even a Oscar for the best actor. I mean, it was amazing his role in the movie. Many times I got myself wondering if they didn't found sequentially ill people to double the main character. He was so believable that it was hard to imagine someone better for the role. Now, getting to the plot. For those who read the biography of Steven Hawkin, you'll realize that some parts of the movie were so lame and so chaotic that it doesn't even make sense. Take for instance, for me, the main "sin" of the movie, was the relationship he had with Jane and the lack of information on his relationship with the nurse, which he eventually married. It seems like they took their time to make the first part of the movie but since the third kid that they just rushed time until the end. I felt overwhelmed by the movie as it was too much information with away too big time gaps between them, poorly connected. For example, who were those boys and where they for the rest of the movie? Despite this, I enjoyed so much the movie that the rate should be between 7.6 and 8.4.
Love, Rosie (2014)
Nice
Despite the movie lacks originality in its theme and plot, I oddly found it very pleasant to watch. I was in the middle of a very stressed day and the movie was playing on the next room. I entered my friend's room thinking it would be the same old story about two friends falling in love (as seen multiple times) and I grabbed the popcorn. It might be the stress and the popcorn that changed my point of view, the thing is that I found it better than some of the other love stories. The characters were OK. I recognized the actors from some other movies and series, which is always nice. They looked like having a great connection on screen and that was exactly what was intended. Somehow there was a bit too much of mess in the lives of the two for the general public to relate to. Too many marriages, fake marriages, kids, fake kids and divorces between the main characters. If they had cut it down and explored a bit more the part of their adolescent, the times previous the pregnancy, it would be so much better. In the end, I think it was a "good waste" of time (at least better than reading a magazine). If you want to know if you should watch the movie, go for it. Your head will be occupied for a bit with light stuff.
Ballers (2015)
Entourage anyone?
This show is about basketball (at least that's what I understood, even though I didn't hear any reference to the sport on the first 20 something minutes). Let me correct myself, this show is about watching "the Rock" doing some retired player in a re-writing of Entourage. Why do you keep doing this kind of series? You had a decent one like Entourage, you should stop! The cast is amazing, good actors, not so good actors (talking about Jazmyn Simon, among others - don't you think you look better in comedy movies?) and they all look very attained to make this a good series. Except that this isn't. Poor script, poor organization of scenes and mostly, lack of originality. For those reasons, I really hope this ends soon and stop waisting TV time.
Arthur & George (2015)
Boring?
How could this be more boring? I'm rating 2 out of 10 for the effort on filming it, but I have to say: in times when the economy is going bad, waisting money trying to make a #historical# series so bad such as this one, it should be considered a crime! Wait... solve this one "sherlock!" The lightning of the movie is awesome... to fall asleep right after the kind of "downtown abbey" title display. I highly recommend anyone to watch this if you want to be filled with the sensation of waisting your time. The theme could also be more original. I honestly don't know if there's already a movie or whatever about Arthur C. Doyle, but I consider reading the wikipedia web page about him so much more thrilling than the series.
Olympus (2015)
Come on...
Come on... won't you tell me this series wasn't made by a bunch of friends on their backyard? One joined the other and said: Hey, I know something about movie edition I've learned on youtube and you own a camera. Let's invite our friends, make a badass poster and we have a TV series!! For sure someone will buy our junk... And yet, it was true. We bought that junk. Just... The quality of the video, as you might wonder, is awful. The worst editing I've ever seen. And when they run? It's so bad that it makes me laugh so hard! They look like they are jumping over clouds! The cast is pretty, you bet. They all look very good and pretty (except for the guy who plays the father, as he's a bit weird). And that's it. The plot, that isn't the worse I have ever seen... but close enough. Olympus is such a great name for a series that makes us wanting more of it. When I first saw the title and the poster, it made me think of Spartacus. It should be something like that, right? Oh SO wrong!!! Please just cancel it and redirect the money for some good charity cause, or a new series, or the poor guy who lives on the corner of the street... Despite everything, I still lost time writing this review as I shamefully watched 4 episodes in a row, waiting for it to be better, for the lack of a new series with the Greek Gods theme.
Killjoys (2015)
Space era is the new black
It appears to me that this new season of series is more filled with sci-fi than any other before. I don't know if it is the eminent feeling of the upcoming Apocalypse or what, but the starting of Killjoys, Wayward Pines, Dark Matter, among others, just made me realize it. About the series itself, I must say it was a delightful surprise. It is a very good series and it corresponds to the surrounding advertisement around it, from long before it. The cast is good, the actors do their part smoothly and the scenario is nice and nicely done. It's an enjoyable time and just makes me watch more. Even though there's a crushing similarity with Dark Matter and The Hunger Games, with a dash of Star Wars, it's original in itself, and very addictive to watch. Still, I'm writing this based on one episode solo, therefore I really hope to not change my opinion in the end. My bet? It will last more than one season, but it will be between this and Dark Matter, and let's find out which one will survive in the end...
Dark Matter (2015)
Very dark indeed
Doesn't this reminds you a bit of Han Solo from Star Wars? The ship loaded with guns, the people who wake up unconscious but act like they knew each other for a lifetime,... This one is very similar to Killjoys. It will be a battle to see which one will last... I'm cheering for the last one. I was pleased to know that they were killers, assassins, at least it was a good twist on the plot, but honestly, it was a curve and counter-curve. How would they be the good guys? Is just releasing a virus, making you forget who you are/were, and then BAM, you're one of the good guys? It was SO predictable! The actress from Lost Girl, the one who plays the "robot-y" thing, why would she show so much emotion? AI is so evolved on that year (which year is exactly?) that robots can be kind of funny, frown their heads or act so humanly? Well... maybe, according to "Humans", by then they will be... Best of all I'm giving a 6 out of 10.
Between (2015)
Originality required!
Wait... where did I see this before?? I know, it's Under The Dome with a twist, it's teen based! Ooh, you might as well argue that there's no dome, it's a virus. Against that I might advise you to watch The Last Ship, The Strain and Helix. There's already a vast list of series about this, and my bet is that this one will not last. The quality is very poor and the actors... poor kids, maybe some screen time is actually helpful for them to practice a bit! And still about the cast, isn't that black guy a bit too old to be still alive? He looks like some on their late 20's, early 30's! The lovely cliché of the awkward kid is also present, as it should be in any amateur made series, and he, as you might guess, must be in love with both the young professor and his best friend. Just missing the gay kid on the closet to be exposed. If some originality could be added to this series, I would watch it but send a advice first as I won't be waisting my time with this anymore. Please start making good/ original series, please?
Cruel Intentions (1999)
Nhé (shrugging onomatopoeia)
In short words: not very interesting movie, awesome soundtrack! Really worth to listen to! About the plot... it's very simple to follow, specially good if you are having a very heavy day and need something light to relax. It's a teen drama that is more DRAMA than needed. I feel a dash of Tarantino, or at least some inclinations whenever I see the girl and the car. It's some sort of Kill Bill. It's cool and all but lucky me that that the possibility to jump some parts of the movie. If only they could have kept all the movie like that... As I said, I only watched it until the end due to a very very VERY good soundtrack. That's it. Be aware!
