Moonfall (2022)
Nonsensical but Entertaining SciFi Flic
Moonfall is like a blockbuster movie written in the twilight zone. Although the plot is completely nonsensensical, it meanders on a razor thin thread. Kids would love watching because for them, the poorly constructed plot wouldn't matter. Most of the entertainment value comes from some stellar acting. There's Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and John Bradley. Special FX and CGI makes me feel like I'm watching an entertaining popcorn flick. The music makes me feel like I'm watching Star Wars.
My recommendation is to sit back and watch this movie with your children. Grab a popcorn, chips, candy bars and coke, then sit back on your recliner and enjoy this Flic.
Black Mountain Side (2014)
I liked the Thing from the south pole better...
This movie made me realize how boring the northern wilderness is at the outpost. Let's compare the Thing with Black Mountain Side. The Thing had better actors. Kurt Russell really drew us into the story, added dramatic value. Black Mountain Side didn't give us a dark atmosphere or drag us down into a haunting situation. Everything seemed to be disconnected.
There was nothing grotesque to build on the horror, just a dear with a dark voice talking to characters, trying to convince them to cut off their limbs or kill the others.
We never got to see the artifacts that were discovered. They were hidden from the audience. I was waiting for the reveal, which never came.
I wasted my time watching this boring horror movie so you don't have to.
Horizon Line (2020)
Rescue Me...
This movie has all the hallmarks of ridiculous, silly B-movie on a shoestring budget. However my wife and I were entertained and we found ourselves laughing right to the end. The love story is what kept us watching.
I Care a Lot (2020)
A spoof on how the corporate world is capitalizing the care home industry...
Are care homes exploiting senior citizens? The plot is simple, the characters are one dimensional. The movie is entertaining, hilarious and worth watching. This movie is mocking how our health care industry has "scammers" financially exploiting the elderly.
The Marksman (2021)
Written in the same vein as Gran Torino
If you're a Clint Eastwood - Gran Torino fan, you may enjoy this story. Liam Neeson is the perfect character to portray the story about a worn out war vet desperately looking for closure to his life after the death of his from cancer. If you're looking for an action packed flick, this movie's not for you.
I'll Be Watching (2018)
I'll be watching this movie crash and burn...
The first 10 minutes of this movie looked interesting, but then it spiraled out of control. I'd like to know how much they paid some of these people to give this movie raving revues. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone.
Pickup on South Street (1953)
Film Noir + Espionage + Suspense + Superb Acting = Awesome Film
A gritty dark movie directed by by Sam Fuller leads the viewer through a winding plot after a pickpocket steals and intercepts microfilm containing sensitive information from Candy, played by Jean Peters, destined to be shared by communist spies. The lowlife pickpocket Skip played by Richard Widmark, is an ace at eluding capture by police. Suspense ratchets up as Skip puts himself and Candy in harms way with the communist spies and the cops. With superb acting by Peters, Widmark and Thelma Ritter, this film is an awesome view and should be added to one of your top movies to see.
Cypher (2002)
Artistic & clever Sci-Fi flick!
Cypher is a movie well worth seeing because it's not the run-of-the-mill Sci-Fi flick. The artistic approach is painted with dark scenes and a kind of macro view of what's going on. The close-up camera view is how the director keeps the plot illusive. The sci-fi aspect of the movie is secondary to the plot of the movie. The technology used in the movie isn't overly impressive, however, the director makes good use of the props.
The character development is intentionally shallow. The main character, Jeremy Northam, decides to immerse himself into the world of espionage. It's up to the audience to figure out his enigmatic character and it's the enigma that keeps the audience interested right to the very end.
The Invisible (2007)
Two Thumbs Up for this Introspective movie.
This movie is multi-dimensional in that it examines many aspects of life that teens must deal with on a daily basis. This story also helps us examine how we can make the right choice in life. Nick is a very caring and thoughtful high-school student. He carefully examines how his life affects all the people around him at school. Then we are thrown into the life of Annie, a troubled young girl who makes poor choices in life because those who are close to her don't seem to take the time to care for her.
This movie deals with the "what if?" scenario. What if we do something we regret! Can we make it right? Annie is forced to deal with herself as a spiritual being. She has a conscience and has the power to make a choice.
This movie is superb. It takes a story about troubled teens and twists the plot around with a little fantasy until we are forced to examine them on a spiritual plane. Great movie to watch with young teens.
Tarzan: Silver Screen King of the Jungle (2004)
Tarzan Rocks
If you have enjoyed all the original Tarzan series like I have, then you will enjoy this well narrated documentary by Rudy Behlmer. As a child, I have watched most of the Tarzan series on B&W television starring Johnny Weismiller and Maureen O'Sullivan. Rudy does a wonderful job at describing all six Tarzan movies in the series. Rudy goes "behind the scenes" with wonderful footage showing what made the series so popular. They show how Tarzan wrestled with real rhinos and mechanical crocodiles. They reveal how Tarzan and Jane's yell was made and what made it popular. Sensorship became a big deal after the early thirties, and Janes revealing costume had to sport more coverage around her thighs. The documentary shows many of these uncut scenes. If you enjoyed in the series you will like this documentary. I'll leave you with one final message. . . . "ungowa".
Bedazzled (2000)
A comedy to "be dazzled" by.
The Devil (Elizabeth Hurley) grants Elliot (Brendan Fraser) 7 wishes in exchange for his soul. Who would think of trading their soul for anything? Well, this character decides to wish for a better life. What keep's this movie flowing is the anticipation of what Elliot wishes to become next. What makes one laugh at this movie is the exaggerated characteristics Elliot adopts in each of his wishes.
Bedazzled is about the dissatisfaction of peoples' lives. We all wish that we could have something better; that we could live in someone else's shoes.
Bedazzled is full of good deep belly laughs which takes you away from your own life for an hour and a half.
